Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has lined up a £1m bid for Doncaster defender Matthew Mills. (Daily Mirror) Get on with it, Alex. Could be a good destabilising factor for a certain somebody if he hasn't gone already (or not risked).

The downside of the win at the weekend (and probably the only one) is that if Rupert Lowe's little purse was just beginning to open up, with the gravity of our situation at least beginning to dawn on him it has now firmly snapped back shut, leaving us with little in the way of striking capability or indeed back up at CB still and a ball-winning central midfielder. By the way, we need to be safe by the last game because we ain't winning at Forest, who will by then be in contention for a play-off with Davies at the helm (anyone else notice what he said about needing some older heads in? How apposite).

The best we have ever had at hitting the bar was G Burley. This looks, on the face of it, a good addition, though seeing him against humans might give us a bigger clue. Now need to keep Schniederlin and get him fit, play him in the middle of the park and add a decent striker (assuming Saga won't get a game behind he who must not be dropped, DMcG. Get the spine right and we'll stop shipping goals.

I'm with you HLMG. The sad thing is that there is still time to do something. Some of us believe that that something was to sack JP (I have avoided using the unfunny nickname because I have been told off) and appoint, say, Billy Davies. Sure, we don't know the money side of things - we might be unable to afford this and Lowe is in charge of the pursestrings, but I personally had hoped that a way round this might have been that JP might have recognised his failings, that the job was way too much for him, and fall on his sword. A bit like Paul Jewell. That way it wouldn't cost us as much. But it looks like not enough people give a monkey's and we're on the inevitable slide to League One or administration. A massive shame.
