An observation that is made every year, but there is a cost for offering what is effectively credit and loads of hassle from those who abuse the system. It's not like it's a surprise that there is an upfront cost if you want a season ticket, although I'd agree football is generally expensive in this country. Buy via credit card and you could have a number of paydays to pay, and buy a piggy bank and each match day shove in the cost of a pint and come the next season you'll be ahead of yourself. If it's still a struggle my sympathies but maybe other bills will need priority, and stay friends with people who might be able to offer you a ticket occasionally!

I think solid midfield options have been lacking to defend the players behind them! Ugochukwu has certainly improved over the season with the experience, but we do need that level of physicality which we can see is startlingly absent in players like Smallbone.

What may be desirable isn't necessarily going to be practicable. Like selling cars you need to have something desirable to get a good price or sell it at all. Even WBAC might only give you scrap value for some of the old cans I've sold in the past. Turning players over will cost and you might get another dud. If (big one I know) we get promotion again that will be the time to make bigger changes. Some of the players will be good enough for another season in the Championship: Bree for example did a good job on Doku on Saturday and would do a job for us next season. He's certainly not a name that makes me groan when you hear he is in the line up: I remember Lee Todd, for example! 😉

Oh gawd, absolutely! Gradually the belief set in. Earlier I'd worried about the lack of an outlet player for our hacks clear, but how we could have done with some of those hacks clear to a distance earlier in the season! No faulting the discipline or effort and both full backs played well. Good point about subs too, and that hasn't often been the case this season as our subs often don't seem to get in to games well. Starting Dibling helped in that respect, and he worked well for the team too. What was that foul against him for BTW? I really hope we can spoil the party at Goodison next week..

To put prices in perspective the cost of my season ticket is about the cost of an hour's helicopter hire which my friend takes me flying in. She hates football and I'm beginning to as well.. But if they take the mickey on prices my renewal is not a foregone conclusion.

Nope. When Saints women went professional they lost quite a number of players as the salaries on offer were nowhere near what they were getting in their professional jobs, let alone the prospects and the risk of a career ending injury. As pointed out above the salary or cost of one of our men's players who haven't even played would probably fund the whole team. Plenty to choose from too: Taylor, Fraser, Larios, etc..

Not just on that occasion I was shouting in frustration "Take responsibility!". I thought generally the spirit seemed better but the confidence is still shot, and the lack of support in attack was appalling. Other teams break at speed, we just have poor Sulemanna on his own.

I think this is a very valid theory. What is disappointing is the lack of effort from both of them, and I don't think blaming our style of play is an excuse. AA may lack quality but never in effort. BBD just looks unfit, whilst TP just looks like he's outgrown his strength, although I think I've seen signs of improvement.

I made a comment on the match thread about the follow up from the penalty: glad that someone else is as annoyed as I am. As for playing Smallbone: do we have anyone with a stronger physique with a bit of pace in our club? At least the youngster Robinson had some pace..

Not this half.. it's getting interesting apparently..

We weren't at all ambitious, which some have complained about, but when you look at our midfield it's probably more understandable. We did have a couple of quick breaks, which was presumably the plan, with chances for Archer and Onuachu, but we really needed more to keep Villa at bay. I've just watched the highlights on the OS and it reminded me of a couple of points: Robinson's speed really showed up how pedestrian players like Smallbone are. He also managed to get back and pressure the attacker before Stephens illustrated his clumsiness again. From the subsequent penalty I was annoyed at the time that the rebound was put in by a player not the penalty taker (which would be understandable), but watching the replay seeing our dozy defence not even starting to run. Calling it amateur would be an insult to Sunday players everywhere.

Nor can I have any pre-match relaxant: no trains so I'll have to drive..
