Saturday was special, went mental when we scored cos we deserved something and played so well. Away games Le Tiss FK against West Ham in the 3-3 draw. Delhurst either goal, Moran against the Skates and of course Bobby Stokes! Then there was Channon against the Skates in '76, last minute from memory nearly got the crap beaten out of me walking to the car. Danny Wallace overhead kick against Liverpool, special goal.... so many! But Saturday was up there!

Absolutely right, Professor. We need strength in depth and will need a few more £12m players on the bench when we are in the Champions League next season!

Haven't read all the posts but in total disbelief having read the 1st few! What planet are these people on? Ricky Lambert on the bench! Get real! Do you watch Saints regularly? Do you know anything about football? How anyone can even comtemplate putting Ricky on the bench seriously needs therapy and a book explaining that generally you start with your best players!

Unbelievable! We need to progress, that means bringing in better players. We cannot sit still. If he signs why would Rickie be on the bench? They would surely look to utilise both. We need a bigger squad not only to improve but to create competition for places. Players will be rotated if we have quality in the squad, to adapt to the opposition, changing tactics etc. adding another quality striker can only help the team.

4th and FA Cup winners

Very difficult but has to be Matt Le Tiss, closely followed by Micky Channon, Alan Ball, Ricky Lambert, Stevie Williams, Steve Moran, Micheal Svensson and Nicky Holmes. So many over the seasons, and then of course Peter Osgood, what a player!

50 live in Ampfield First home game, well if memory serves me correctly, against Spurs in around 1969. Stood at the Milton Road on a stool so I could see! Think we drew but cant remember. Went to many reserve games before that game. First away match, can't remember exactly but definitely went to the semi final at Stamford Bridge on 3rd April 1976! Had a season ticket since 1978, Under West Stand Terrace, then in the Milton Road terrace and then finally when there was no terrace left, Milton Road seats. Now in Itchen North.

I've been reading this thread over the last few days, and I've got so say, some of the opinions and negative posts are unbelievable!!! Saints are Safe. Lets face it, Wigan are not going to pick up 8 points in 4 games, my prediction is 6 at best. You also have to remember Newcastle are not in great form, neither there great rivals Sunderland. Both haven't got the easiest of run ins, -Newcastle; WH, QPR, Arsenal (3Pts from that) -Sunderland; Stoke, SFC, Spuds (3pts MAX) without banging on about everyone else's fixtures, surely from that anyone can see we will more than likely finish above both of them considering we have 2 more points already. I completely agree we missed an opportunity with the WBA game, a point there and this thread wouldn't have even have started! But realistically 1 point from 9 WILL be enough. I'm going to WHL this Saturday and honestly think we will get something. All my Spurs friends are nervous about Saints, they probably will be without Lennon, meaning no width. Bale tends to drift in and everything comes down the middle. I can see a 1-1 or 2-2 with Saints taking the lead early and having to fight back for the point. A little optimism wouldn't go a miss!! we've had a GOOD season back in the PREM, and I think most of you, if offered this position on SEPT 1st would have ripped the arm off the offer.... Quite ridiculous OP. Obviously someone that has no idea about sport. If you play sport at reasonable level or are lucky enough to be a pro, then it is about winning and playing at the highest level. We are in the English FA, the highest level is the Premier League, that's where the players want to play, any Chairman worth his salt would want his Club to be playing in the Premier League, its where most true supporters want to see their Club playing, in the Premiership. If the unthinkable happens we will lose most of our decent players, RL, AL, GR, Clyne, Cork, MS, LS plus all the decent youngsters that we are bringing through would be snapped up by the big boys. Clearly you have never played football at a decent level or you would not be making such a ridiculous statement. If you want second best f£$% off down the road and support the sh ite in skate land.

We need 17 points from 14 games. We will stay up, I have no doubts. In SRL we have a proven goal scorer at this level, we simply need other players to chip in with a few goals.

Unbelievable OP.... Without Ricky Lambert in the team we will lose. We have no outlet, we have no one able to hold the ball, no one to compete with the centre backs and no one else to score regularly. Without Ricky against Chelsea we were simply poor going forward. Yes Jayrod looks good, yes Jayrod has pace, but he is no where near as good a footballer overall as Ricky. He may be 31 but we can still have another two season from him in the PL as our highest goal scorer. If he gets injured we have no one else available to replace him.............

Well, I was one of those who questioned his judgement, not starting Lambert, his substitutions costs us too many points in the first 10 games. He needed to learn, and learn fast and NA appears to learnt. He now fields his best starting XI available and has stopped making ridiculous subs. We have a settled team that is now gelling together well, so at the moment my thoughts are: he deserves his chance but needs to ensure we get to 40 points asap. Oh and we need a decent reliable goalkeeper.......
