Nigel Adkins' Appointment - One Year On
Ian the Red replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Yep, totaly agree with the OP. Plus he is well aware of the risks in playing players who are carrying knocks. Saturday a case in point: Richardson tweeked a calf and Harding jarred his knee late last week and Adkins made the call not to play either. As he said in the interview we have a number of games coming up and the risk of further injury and weeks out is not worth the gamble. Great to hear that he takes the long term view and even better to think we have the players to cover. Very sensible chap our Nigel!! -
Lambert, no one is more reliable

As few posters have pinted out, Ricky is not just a goal scorer; his distribution, hold up play, indeed is all round game is fantastic for a big centre forward. If he had lightening pace he would be sensational......... and probably playing in the premier league. I think it is his lack of pace that has detered managers taking a punt on him but as he has proved this season it is about reading the game and being in the right position at the right time that really matters. There is more to come from Ricky in my opinion, he is an intelligent football player who reads a game well and has the vision to create many chances for other players, plus he is undoubtedly a team player. At least 25 goals this season.

On the way / just got home from the game thread...

Magnificent 2nd half. Agree with most of Chez marks apart from: Seabourne, 5, simply too inconsistant for me, Connolly, 6, gave the ball away too often, Guly, 5, worst game of the season for him. We definitely need a quality centre back and De Ridder needs to start to give us much needed pace. RL again lead the line very, very well and his passing and flicks create so many chances. AL was simply superb. We need to be a little more ruthless, we do try to walk the ball into the net too often, one to many passes when a shot might have been the better option. Connolly hitting the post and the ball rebounding and staying under Schimicheals arse summed up our luck in the 2nd half! One question was it a penalty?? Or did AL make the most of the tackle? From where we were standing it looked a debatable penalty..... one of those that is given sometimes. -
2 -1 to the mighty Saints!! Ricky and Connolly. Right shower breafast and then a little drive up to Leicester!! COYR

Yeap with you on this one, which pub to go for???????

Pure speculation. What's the point, we all know that nothing will be known until Saints actually release some detail. Not even my sources are letting on who is coming in, if any. Everyone is sworn to secrecy @ SMS.......... pure speculation!

Good to tie him down although I do think Fox will be the no1 choice at LB. DH has always given 100%, yes he has been caught out of position a few times but you can not fault his committment to the cause. Good squad signing.

Think he is at QPR

This season we have simply not allowed the opposition to play; when we have had the ball we have been able to threaten. We do not give the ball away that often, and made the other teams chase us. Its the lame mangers excuss for being outplayed for a large amount of the game. 56% posession against Ipswich says it all. We could have had 7 or 8 last night and it would not have flattered us. We should have had many more than the one against Barnsley. Ipswich has been the only team to continually threaten us and to be fair, they deserved their 3 goals. I do believe we have created our luck by playing as a team, a unit, creating numerous chances and taking those opportunites at crucial points in the game. The test now is consistancy. If we continue to play like this then, well, who knows were we will finish....... but there will only be the likes of West Ham and Leicester that will be able to live with us....

Still buzzing, fantastic performance, the best I have seen away from home from any Saints team ever! IMHO I thought Guly was a little below par as well as Seasbourne and Harding. We do need a quality left footed centreback, we now have Fox for left back and we have plenty of options for Guly. Jaidi, whilst a rock would not be the player to come in against oppostion like Ipswich, he would have been murdered by their pace and I do believe Jaidi can only be emergency cover. Lets face it, Ipswich caused us a few problems, Kelvin had to make 2 very, very good saves when we were 2-0 up and their 2nd half 20 minutes showed they will cause problems for many teams, which makes the 5-2 demolition look even better. Slick, sublime, awesome, fantastic, ruthless, simply the best!! Only another 43 league wins to go!!!!

Ipswich 2 - 5 Southampton - post match fapping session
Ian the Red replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
I have can honestly say I never, ever seen such a performance away from home from any Saints team ....... and I have been watching Saints for over 40 years!! The passing was slick and accurate; the movement off the ball, simply sublime; the finishing was fantastic; the overall team performance awesome!! I have seen this morning the goals again; Ricky's looked even better; Morgans pass was well, world class and AL finish wonderful. Talking in the car on the way home I said if we continue like this how will teams try to stop us? Man marking is the only option, but who do they man mark?? Lallana, Connoly, Cork, Lambert, they cant mark all of them!! Dean Hammond has been the big surprise for me, I doubted his ability in this league but he has really stepped up and put in another great display last night. IMHO the weak links are Seabourne, he had a reasonable game but gave the ball away too many times especailly in the second half and Guly is not playing as well as he can at the moment. Also would like to see Fox given a chance at left back - he looked very lively and quick when he came on. The team is certainly playing for each other and for NA. As already noted by someone else who was there last night chant of the night: "BRAZIL, WE ARE THE SOUTH COAST BRAZIL, WE ARE THE SOUTH COAST BRAZIL, BRAZIL, WE ARE THE SOUTH COAST BRAZIL, WE ARE THE SOUTH COAST BRAZIL. If a prem league team scored the goals we did last night the pundits would be creaming themselves and we would be seeing the goals time and time again. Long may this run continue!! -
Thanks Wilf will head for the Station Hotel as well!!!!

Think we have many excellent captains... Bally, Stevie Williams, Jimmy case, Mick Mills, to name a few as well as Rodrigues.
