And the fact that he had a complete 'mare with one of our goals probably helped too, if memory serves me right?!

I must have missed the comment where someone asks why the OP didn't offer out the entire Northam stand rather than coming on here and being an internet warrior?

He was good enough to play for Tunisia in a World Cup so surely good enough to have played for us?!

This thread is a right trip down memory lane! The steak and kidney pies from Plesteads remain the best pies I've ever had; I seem to remember the steak and kidney being minced? My mum used to take me in there for one (if I'd been a good boy!!!) while we were waiting for the bus home; I also seem to remember there being a barbers and newsagents in the same promenade of shops? I got my one and only skinhead in that barbers when I was about 10 I'd guess; I'm 37 now so that was a long time ago; happy days though!

This is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question really. I tore my ankle ligaments about 15 years ago in the penultimate game of the season in April and didn't kick a ball again until the last friendly before the next season started in September, so I make that about 4.5 months. Even then I came back too soon and to this day I still get pain in it, but I guess that's the result of playing two games a week-end for all those years; oh to be young again.....

Would you prefer a Blackpool win to a replay?
Jesus Reigned replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
I'm pretty sure there'll be a win one way or the other today as Blackpool will play a very open game. And I hear that they're likely to make 11 changes from their last Prem line-up so are there for the taking; Saints to win 2-1. -
I wish we'd hurry up and get this 8th wicket already; I want to go to bed!!!

I should have said "private motor insurance", ie the likes of you and me.
-
A major reason why insurance premiums are so high these days is that so many more people claim for "whiplash" when their car's been hit at 2mph than did even 5 years ago. And with regards to insurance companies ripping people off with the high premiums, I doubt that there's an insurer out there at the moment that makes any money on underwriting motor insurance. Blame the compensation culture and the "where there's blame there's a claim" parasites who advertise on daytime telly 24/7!!

Maybe that evens up Lampard's against the Germans then.

Don't you mean your head says play-offs?

JUst goes to show that football truly is a game of opinions; I've noted the negative comments about Richardson and don't agree at all. He made a superb run and pass in the first couple of minutes that should have led to a goal, his passing was fine IMO and I felt very comfortable that his flank was secure. I was actually quite impressed with Exeter for the first hour or so; I felt nervous at 1-0 as I could see them scoring, and I thought their passing was better than ours until they lost the plot in the last half hour. I think their overall problem was that they tried to beat us at our own game, and no-one in this league will achieve this at St Marys; however Tisdale is definitely one to watch in the future I think, as bearing in mind that his team probably cost 10% of what ours did their style of football impressed me. The only shame from their point of view was that they forgot to defend!! Solid performances all around the park today, although I did think that Seabourne was shaky in the first half and (as someone else has mentioned), his attempted 60-yard crossfield passes were all a bit aimless. The difference for me in the second half was that Chaplow was pushing forward much more than in the first half, and this made us an entirely different proposition. He makes some excellent forward runs and even if he doesn't get the ball he creates a lot of space for others. Guly was MOM for me, and he proved that he can finish with two good goals. I don't think he's a natural centre-forward by any means (which isn't his fault as he's only doing what he's told), but he was involved in most good things we did going forward and I really hope we get him on a permanent deal. I'm slightly concerned by the fact that we've now played 5 more home games than away games, but if we keep playing like that at home and at least not losing away we will finish in the top 2. We really need to back this up with a good win at D&R on Monday now!!

I'm meant Melbourne of course; getting ahead of myself....

What worries me about England and in particular our batting is that when one fails, they all do. The difference with the Aussies, as it always was with their great sides of the past, is that one or two, ie Hussey, Haddin and to a degree Watson, generally step up when they need to. I can see more pain for us in Sydney, but think we'll still take "home" the urn, just!

The slight difference being that we weren't in the third tier of English football at the time!

El-Abd's Injury from the Brighton Game - Not for Faint Hearted!

I didn't think anyone wore blades these days anyway? -
My mate and I took our 7 year olds for the Oldham game and it was an excellent day and good value for money; we will definitely do it again if it continues at the £35 + VAT rate. The kids also got a free drinks voucher so we bought their soft drinks and you therefore effectively get 2 pints for your money as well as the kids eating and watching the game for free. I like my curries and I'd say it was passable, a very standard chicken affair with pilau rice and half a (cold!) nan, plus there were poppadoms but they'd run out when we got there! There was also a pumpkin curry veggie option. Good seats in the Itchen, cushioned and with "hand resters" as my nipper called them! Very well presented in the Mick Channon suite, there was a quiz before the match and the kids met and got autographs from Hammond and Glenn Cockerill at half-time, then Morgan came in afterwards. There is also an area for the kids to play table football and soft footballs, etc, and ours didn't want to leave at the end. Not too crowded and no trouble getting served at any time, nice relaxed atmosphere too. We will definitely do it again if the price stays the same.

Other than his ability to score from 3 yards....
-
I hear what you say but I thought it was more from the side to be fair.
-
Did anyone else catch the "you f-ing fat c***" comment after he scored; mastercard!!
-
I can see why Davis wasn't happy with their goal; their attacker on the line just jumped into him, and I noted left his foot in when Davis was on the floor too. Looked at our pen a few times and I think the defender may have got some ball to be fair; will take it though.

I'm getting well into this; you only get to guess once a day and the days you're allowed to pick are no nearer than 2 days away. I only won one of my first six attempts as I wasn't savvy enough to check the weather forecast beforehand! Have started choosing more squares in Scotland now as it always rains up there.

Tickets for Dagenham and Redbridge, On the special price scheme?
Jesus Reigned replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
Do you know if you have to have the season ticket with you or if you just have to have the details? I'm hoping to buy 9 tickets this afty!! -
Had a thoroughly enjoyable day in the Curry Club today. What great value that was for £41; went with my mate and our two kids, it was a day the kids will remember for a long time. Got autographs and photos from Hammond and Morgan; then stopped off at the concourse on the way home and heard most of Adkins' interview and the kids got his autograph too for good measure. As for the match, I was so frustrated in the first half especially to see us reverting to hoof-ball so much of the time, seems like we've gone backwards somewhat for the Tranmere game but maybe a lot of that was down to Oldam pressing us so well. Our tactics were playing right into the hands of their bruising centre-backs and to be honest if we hadn't have got the goal on the stroke of half-time I think we might have lost. Lallana and Guly were virtual passengers in the first half, but much better in the second; I think we probably should have had a pen for the challenge on Guly, but he still got the shot away and from 6 yards out he should have lamped it and taken the keeper into the net with the ball rather than try to place it as he did. Chamberlain made a real difference when he came on and such a shame he didn't get the second, which would have been a goal of the season contender. Morgan did a lot of the unseen stuff very well but needs to work on his shooting; Chaplow got caught in possession too often and his touch was poor at time, but a lot of that was probably down to him not playing much footy recently and he did improve. Lots of room for improvement and we'll play better than that and lose this season, but 3 points is the main thing I guess!
