I always feel that the phrase "must win" is bandied around far too often, but it definitely applies to Monday's game. As Forest and Wolves have shown in the last few days, some teams have the ability to pull it out of the bag when they need to. We've shown on a number of occasions the ability to bottle it when it really matters this season, and I seriously doubt whether we've got it in us to change that on Monday. Thankfully I think my 6 year-old is too young to be majorly disappointed if this happens, and hopefully we'll be back on the rise by the time he's under peer pressure to start supporting the Man U's and Chelseas of this world...

Watford 1-1 Saints - First Half & Half Time Chat

1-1 half time, shout for Watford penalty for handball against Perry just before whistle went. Saints giving as good as they get. -

My goal celebrations are stifled somewhat by the overriding concern that the league will end up shafting us if we do manage to get enough points to stay up.... -

Anyone else thinking that we'll survive by the skin of our teeth this season and then get clobbered with the points deduction and go down anyway? -
If we don't win one of the next two then we're done for, if we're not already.

It was Cloughie gold at the signing of Trevor Francis when he turned up with a squash racquet and said he'd smack him over the head with it if Francis ballsed it up, or something similar. A true character and sorely missed.
-
Other than keeping a clean sheet when their goalie got sent off he did nothing at Oldham though; what makes you think he'd do better in a higher division?
-
We'll see what he says in the summer when he gets offered two/three times as much by other clubs, plus a signing on fee and bearing in mind it's likely to be the last contract he ever signs. And this is assuming we're still in the division we are now, which is highly doubtful.
-
Of course we'll offer him a new contract, but assuming it will either be for half as much as his current one or with us being in League 1, I very much doubt he'll accept it.

I still have nightmares about the Palace game last season, with Bart in goal and Bennett/Makin centre-backs...
-
Thanks for that. How could they not include Davis's shot off the post in the highlights though?!
-
Yes, I can picture his son stood there wishing the ground would swallow him up.
-
I remember hearing just after we signed him that Dowie at Coventry had a £150,000 bid turned down the week before; I'd say their valuation of him was considerably closer to his true value than ours sadly. All I'd ever known him doing before he signed for us was lamping Viafara and getting red-carded the season before, and I haven't ever seen any similar fight in him playing for us.
-
Glad you cleared that up cos I wasn't sure when they showed it on The Championship this morning that it was definitely going in.
-
At least that way someone else could be last man and he wouldn't have to get skinned. I do rate him by the way, whenever I've seen him this season I think he's done okay, and must have at least 4 or 5 assists from his accurate crosses.
-
Ah, Alan Knight's testimonial. I seem to remember they wanted to get at the Saints fans but not that they trashed their place aswell?
-
I only remember them trashing their own place after they beat us to be honest?!
-
My 6-year old loves it. I do wonder how many people who take part get injured, as some of them do get absolutely mullered and hit the ground/water at all sorts of contorted angles?!

Clubs from years gone by in Southampton...

And the only time I went to Schooners was England-v-Columbia, World Cup 1998; we couldn't get in to Leisureworld so ended up down there. What a great night; I had a premonition that Beckham was going to score the free-kick, so stood back and watched everyone else get soaked by flying pints. And the fire alarm went off and everyone refused to leave. -

Never used to frequent the Dog and Duck that often but Thursdays was the regular Friday and Saturday night haunt for my lot circa 1992/1993. Thursdays was a proper club; sticky floors, people being sick off the balconies, a guaranteed fight every night. And I met my good lady wife in there too. Also remember college nights at The Pier; Pernod night at 50p a shot stands out in particular, or at least the next day does...... Happy days. -
My missus is definitely glad it's off as it will stop me snapping at her and the kids from 4.55pm tonight when we'd have lost again, and spoilt another Saturday night.

On the list of people to blame for our current predicament I'd put Wotte right at the bottom. Getting rid of him now would be akin to rearranging the deck-chairs on the Titanic. Plus I wasn't at the game last night but I gather BWP missed a great chance to win it after we scored; if that had gone in and Kelvin hadn't pulled his hand away from Ward's shot things would be a whole lot different right now.
-
Well at least Henderson can't score now. Cue 50 minutes of us trying in vain to break down 10 men.
