So chuffed with the win today; wasn't feeling optimistic before this one for some reason. Saints of old would have bottled it at 2-1 so good to see we have a bit of fire in our bellies. Looking forward to seeing the goals and Lambert's shot against the bar from 45 yards...

I've pretty much stopped buying it since they stopped printing it on Saturday nights; used to take a stroll to the newsagents and then read it from front to back whilst the missus watched her usual Saturday night cr@p! Plus I used to like seeing if my goal(s!!) got a mention in the local league write-up, but since I've hung up my week-end boots there's no point any more. I've not read it yet this season but when I read it last season I did think the content had gone significantly downhill.

It's possible he had 2 hands on the ball, but for it to be a foul he has to have it fully under control, which it would appear he did not. So I'd say fair goal (as a Saints fan).....

hth.

How many chavs have you tried speaking sense to recently?
-
I go for 4 mins, as I'd rather have the yolk not totally runny than have that uncooked white cr@p (or albumen I believe?) all over my soldiers...

We're not all season ticket holders unfortunately!!

£15 is ridiculously overpriced for this game; even if I could make it I'd never pay that.
-
Didn't cross my mind at the time, but having seen it a few times since on the telly it definitely looked like an OG. At least we got to see the dance again I guess, and all good strikers should claim everything! Saints highlights on just after 45 mins on The Football League Show by the way; we actually got a couple of minutes for a change, showed 3 or 4 chances in addition to the goals.

I think the club has the pricing structure wrong for this; £10 for adult tickets in advance but £15 on the day. Why so? Actually irrelevant for me as I play football on a Tuesday so can't go anyway, but if I was able to I'd probably pay £10 but never £15 to watch Torquay in a Mickey Mouse cup.

I'm glad it's not on telly; not only due to our appalling record on Sky but also the fact that I'm out on a work p!ss-up so would have missed it anyway.

I think we need to remember we're in League 1; yes LEAGUE 1!!! No, Papa is not a world beater; if he was then he would never have come to us would he?! He is a half-decent winger/forward who has a bit of the Wanchopes about him, and I think he'll fluctuate from being either really good or really bad. And I agree he's maybe not as fast as I expected either, but I think he'll prove to be an asset for us in this division.

To be fair I didn't see him bottle anything; I actually thought he got stuck in at times. And have you seen the size of his legs?!

Great to feel positive on a Saturday night for a change. Lots of plusses today; very good performances all around the team. Lambert is quality; always seems to have time on the ball, which is the sign of a class player. Played a sublime pass with the outside of his foot in the second half which summed it up. James still looks iffy defensively but at least we've found someone who can take a decent corner, with pace and accuracy. I even thought Wotton did well today, and I never thought I'd say that; seeing him on the pitch from the start didn't fill me with confidence, but he did the ugly stuff well and got stuck in. Papa seems to be finding his feet, some great close-control, looked dangerous and wasn't afraid to put his foot in either. Lallana's second in particularly was a great goal. Slightly disappointed to hear we only gained a point on 5th from bottom but all we can do is keep winning games.

He strikes me as someone who perhaps plays on instinct and doesn't know what he's going to do half the time; and if he doesn't the opposition defenders sure as hell won't either!!

Agreed, nice touch to applaud Lambert. Maybe Adebayor could take a leaf out of his book regarding how to conduct yourself when you're about the play the team you've just left....

As others have stated it's difficult to know what to make of tonight's result. Both of Rovers first two goals came from nowhere; really no idea what Davis was doing out there for their first, but still a decent finish. Saints played well for 70 minutes I'd say; if we'd have gone 3-1 up I could have seen us getting 5, as Rovers were well and truly rocking. Schneiderlin missed a sitter at 2-1 at looking back that was the turning point. We played some great football at times, and actually overplayed it on occasion rather than being more direct. Last 20 minutes there was really only one team who was going to win it, although Lallana should have buried one at 2-2 when put on a plate for him, and I thought a good shout for a pen on Hammond/Lambert (they look the same to me) in injury time that the ref was never going to give at such a late stage. Their winger Williams changed the game and scared the life out of us when he ran with it, very direct and strong; I thought Harding had a decent game but he was overrun in the end. Can't see where 5 minutes of injury time came from, and there was an audible groan when the board went up rather than the usual rousing cheers; almost as if the crowd could sense what was coming. I'm a half-empty kinda bloke but too early to start getting really worried; if we're still deep in it at Christmas I'll start getting properly worried. Tonight will teach me for not taking my nipper; he's got a 100% record watching Saints (4 wins out of 4 including Yeovil) but thankfully I'm taking him on Saturday!!

This thread appears to have gone somewhat off-topic?! I was looking forward to reading the 75+ posts that had been added since I last logged-on, so was somewhat disappointed to find it's turned into a thread about driving at speed; as someone who deals with motor injury claims for a living this is the last thing I want to read about on one of my days off......
-
Great report shurlock, thanks for that. Interesting to hear your take on the Mellis chance, as the commentary on Solent was along the lines of "he must score", but clearly not that simple!
-
That would be an acceptable circumstance to be fair......!!
-
How did Papa play today by the way, given that he got 25 minutes or so?
-
I've done it once years ago when I went to watch England Under 21s at The Dell with my mate and his dad; he made us leave at 90 mins at 1-0 to England and we missed 2 England goals. At least that was out of my control given that he was driving, and I had no choice in the matter unless I wanted to walk home!! It was the game when Frank Lampard put a 30-yard screamer in the postage stamp top right corner by the way, against Poland maybe...?
-
I will never, ever understand why people choose to do this; if you're more interested in beating the traffic than the result or potentially seeing goals in the 6th minute of injury time, stay at home!!
-
We've won 1 of our first 8 games; balance of probabilities would not suggest that we are about to win our next 3, but I would gladly be proven wrong!!

All we deserved! Would you believe I missed the overhead kick, and they didn't show it again at the end!!
