Shows their fitness after that really tough, sapping match against United that we can come from behind and win in the 90th minute.

I don't think he is being disrespected at all. It's just that every time we play Man U this one day in our history, though very important, seems to dominate all the media and we repeat every cliche going ad finitum. We are lucky enough to have had a lot of great victories in Premier League games against Man U in our recent past, the successive victories 3 seasons in a row, 6-3, 3-1, 1-0, a last minute Beattie header to beat them at St. Mary's a few years ago. We don't go on and on and on about these and all the players and managers involved having to be feted every time we play them again. I can't think of another ex-manager who left a club 30 years ago who still gets the amount of media attention Lawrie Mac does; it is only because he seeks it out - his ego has to be constantly fed. I certainly wouldn't put MLT in the same bracket - Matt's a much more modest down-to-earth chap. I sympathise with Cortese. Football clubs, even at non-league level, attract an amazing number of people who think they should get freebies; executives can waste a lot of their time just controlling this. Ex-staff who work for me don't expect free chocolate for the rest of their life, or need me to tell them how brilliant they were when they used to work for me. Where does this massaging of egos end? This doesn't mean you have forgotten your history, but you can see an 84 year old Lawrie Mac still bringing this up when we play them in 10 years time.

Nobody around me in the Kingsland lives in Southampton, but we either used to, had family who used to, or adopted the Saints through marriage (my husband). Many from the Bournemouth area. Actually, might upset a few on here, but back when football was cheap, it was common to watch the Cherries one week and the Saints the next. There wasn't any rivalry; Bournemouth were just the second team.
-
Snowed off, unfortunately, but rearranged for this Wednesday. I've been to a few Salisbury matches when Saints haven't been playing and enjoyed it - a team I enjoy seeing win without the stress of watching Saints!

Ricky is far too slow to play Premiership football, and probably the Championship as well. He's earning a lot more than he's ever done before, and most of his career he's been scraping around League 2 - this doesn't make him sound widely ambitious. He's probably struggling with all the extra attention defenders are giving him, and he's got no speed to get away from them. Trust some on here to pick on Kelv - any excuse. Amazing his fellow pros voted for him in the League One team of the season.

Carlisle 3 - 2 Saints - post match reaction.

Anybody actually at the match can tells us some facts, i.e. who were the players making basic defensive errors? Too many people slagging Adkins off on here who can't have seen the match. LIke he said, you can play any formation you like but if we miss good chances in front of goal and concede sloppy goals, it doesn't matter what formation you play. This assumption that players always do what the manager says so it must be his fault is crazy. Anybody who manages staff knows that they often don't do what you tell them. -
Time to accept that it is unlikely we will go up
Jackie@home replied to Thedelldays's topic in The Saints
I think the 3 sides that went up last year are definitely stronger than those in the top positions at the moment, as you can see by how well they've done in the Championship - they look like they belong there. As we know, we had the record number of points to not get a play-off place in this division last season; there won't be as many points required this time, I'm sure. Still injuries to key players like Lallana can make a huge difference. If we have a good injury record, I still think we can be top two. -
Much improved performance, but Lambert still looks lumbering and passing when he would have shot last season. It's clear that NA is encouraging them to pass the ball whenever it's an option. Great to have Lallana back as he certainly made a big difference. Both looked definite penalties despite their whingeing. Chaplow's signing clearly had an impact on Hammond and Schneiderlin. Ricky could do with some more competition for his place.
-
Definitely not! I must say you sound very peculiar - don't know why you want a girlfriend if you really hate women as much as you claim. You can always pay for sex and save the aggro of actually sharing women's company if it is that offensive to you.

Took my husband to watch us lose 1-0 to Derby in 1989. (Dean Sauinders scored). He bought season tickets the same week and is still going, but lately has moaned that some of the games are boring and he would be better playing golf. He's missed a few games lately and has been assured by the guys around us in the Kingsland that they will look after me - he gave me a suspicious look. A few weeks ago he took his daughter to Babies r us whilst I went to the Reading friendly. Last Saturday he ironed his shirts when I went to Swindon. Some of us have got it right.

Before Pardew was appointed, I always thought Nigel looked like the kind of manager we should consider. I hope I'm proved right. I think Cortese and Nigel will have more empathy, with Nigel being a much better educated man than Pardew, who was a glazer before he became a footballer. He seems a very likeable, upbeat kind of guy - we need someone with that sort of character after all we've been through the last few years.
-
Yes, Raven, think you've just about summed it up. We'll never know what happened regarding Pardew and his team, so we can never know if NC was correct or not, but it would not be a decision he took lightly. There are too many people prepared to believe all kinds of rubbish with no evidence. And we've only played 5 league games - there is still time to rectify the situation. Man U have chucked 4 points away in injury time already this season - do you think Fergy has given up on the title?
-
Morgan actually had a good game, but Hammond was non-existant. We're missing Lallana very badly - he really is one of the most creative players in this division, and has trickery, goal scoring and skill in his locker. Without Waigo or Antonio, we are missing him even more. There is just no creativity. I have no faith in Connolly scoring - he looks past his best. We need Barnard back asap.
-
Can't see what people get out of making up this absolute crap - they must have very twisted minds. It's quite scary how even 70 year old men in the Kingsland were quoting some of this rubbish about Pardew with players' wives back to me yesterday as if it was fact. Why beautiful girls would go off with someone who probably looks like their dad they couldn't explain!

Statement from Nicola Cortese essential now.....
Jackie@home replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
He won't tell us anything that we really want to know, so there's no point. It will just be some PR waffle. We want to know why Pardew's been booted out at this stage of the season, and he's not going to tell us. If he really couldn't work with Pardew he would have know this in May, and seeing as we have been told that noone else is lined up, then he looks like he has acted in a fit of anger rather than take a logical business decision. As someone who co-runs a sizeable business, I know that no decisions should made in a temper, and Cortese knows this also. He's made himself look unprofessional and he can't be happy with that. Pardew was saying last week that we could expect another couple of signings, which have now not materialised. I'm not suprised - most players would like to know who is managing them, so the timing of this decision looks particularly poor when other teams around us were strengthening. -
I don't think it's coincidence that he's been sacked after Markus's death - He seemed a much more tolerant guy who want Pards to stay on. NC has waited for the funeral, etc. to be over then acted straight away. Absolutely farcical. Pardew's record of managing from League One to the Premiership, knowledge of all the divisions and promotion at our level and Championship level has not been replicated by hardly any managers in recent years - can only think of Warnock off the top of my head. We'll probably end up with a foreign manager who doesn't know the difference between Charlie Austin and Ian Harte, that's my worry. Anyone who knows League One as well as Pards will not have his reputation in the game at a higher level.

The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread
Jackie@home replied to supersonic's topic in The Saints
Heard a rumour yesterday that Feeney of Bournemouth was one of the wide players on our short list. He gave Dickson a torrid time until Dan Harding sorted him out after coming on as sub. -
If only it was as easy as some on here think. We want players that are really too good for this league, like Fonte. We were only able to sign him because Palace were in such strife. This means that they are probably at a Championship club and don't want to drop down unless we offer them big money (Pardew is the worried about their commitment - we've seen enough of them before), or they've been frozen out at their existing club (some probably just realising now the season's underway that they won't be first team regulars). I was speaking to a friend who runs a non-league club, and he said it was definitely a game of brinkmanship, as players who were hanging on for higher league football and bigger wages finally decided that they couldn't risk waiting any longer. Our squad was so decimated last summer that it was much easier to sign better players, this year it's much tougher.

Have to agree with with many of the more moderate posters - it has got worse lately. A maximum number of posts per day might help. It might help the compulsive posters as well. as they might either get some more work done or improve their social life! I've only got the wrist-slitting Alpine on my ignore list, but there are a couple more I'm contemplating. I think it will help when we have some more matches to comment on - it gets worse when nothing much is happening.
-
I think he would appreciate it if we supported the team this season in the same way we always used to at the Dell, when we were usually the underdogs and realised that we had to fight for every point, and didn't start moaning after 20 minutes if we weren't winning. The thing he would want most would be for us to get promoted - let's appreciate the help he gave us and play our small part.

I would like a man to take me to away games rather than play flaming golf! -
Just renewed on the phone after problems with the rubbish website - only had to hang on for 5 mins. Back with some of the longest serving supporters, by the look of them! Actually been sat with some of them for over 20 years now, KIngsland Centre and before that East Stand at the Dell. Just football friends that we only see at matches, but won't be sat with them at cup games due to the club's disregard for ST holders' wishes, unfortunately.

Mass rush expected for season tickets tomorrow?
Jackie@home replied to Liquidshokk's topic in The Saints
Icey Saint, I don't get this come up - I followed your instructions, clicked for renewals, and I don't get a list of games - I get an access code (random numbers and letters) and an expiry date in July 2009. No list appears. Anybody else get this? -
Agreed, I'd have him back. When teams come to St. Mary's with 2 banks of 4 and go for a 0 - 0, he is unpredictable enough to turn the game. Remember the last second equaliser against Norwich in the JPT - he's the kind of player who can do something different when we're looking predictable and really penetrate a defence.
-
If this guy is the League One equivalent of Bale he could play in front of Dan. With Antonio and Papa no longer there, another option would be to play Lallana on the right on occasions, as Puncheon is inconsistent. I really don't want Harding dropped - he's been excellent this season and given his all. It's not like Dickson has proved himself at a higher level like Fonte.
