I think once a player has told the club that he won't sign a new contract and he's in his last year, there is always a chance that he ends up at a club that he previously had no intention of joining, spurred on by his agent telling him that he can get a better club than is really likely or realistic.

Hughes seems happy with 3-0. Why isn't Lemina off? He sounds shocking. He should have been off instead of Romeu. How crap do Hoedt and Vestergaard have to be for Yoshi to get a game? Didn't Hughes watch the World Cup? So frustrating.
-
Perhaps he will want to make sure that he and his family have EU passports with this Brexit shambles!

Renewed for our 30th season. Blame Nick Holmes, he said we must go and watch that lad Le Tissier, he’s brilliant. Addicted ever since. Surely it can’t be any worse than that dreary season just gone. Not feeling too optimistic with our Chinese owners though.
-
Just hope it's not too late, after all those winnable games we haven't won!
-
Yes, he’s definitely better on the right and Tadic on the left. For some reason our last 2 managers can’t seem to work this out.

Couldn't agree more. We looked pretty solid at the back last season when Yoshida and Stephens got used to playing with each other regularly. Hoedt looks like making a lash up every time he plays.

Liverpool agree world-record £75m deal for Virgil van Dijk

Good riddance. He's been totally disinterested whenever he's played this season. Incredibly sloppy and casual, with no commitment. The managerial situation is of much more concern. If Liverpool think VVD will solve their defensive problems, think again! -
Slowest part about him is his brain. He thinks like a League One player. By the time he's decided what to do the move has already broken down and the ball is up the other end of the field.
-
He looks like he thinks he is too good for us and was just strolling around the pitch with no commitment. Needed subbing at half time. Totally went missing.
-
Definitely out. I thought it was the definition of madness to keep repeating the same thing and expecting a different result. Why hasn't he tried playing Gabbiadini with Austin? Why is Redmond in for very match?? Why doesn't he try Tadic on the left, If he's going to play him? Bloody frustrating. Tactically out played by Burnley. How low does it have to go. The important point is the players don't look like they believe in him.
-
You are right, I imagine he would really kick off if Targett was given a game. Such a shame we went out of the League Cup so limply as we could have done with the chance for more of the squad to show what they can do.

I can understand Pellegrino saying that we can't play 2 strikers because we will get overrun, IF the attacking midfield players we have were tackling and helping out well with defending, and it was the only way we can hold the midfield. Since when have Redmond, Tadic and Boufal done this? It's not a problem for us being overrun in midfield, even Man U couldn't do it, and we had 70% possession today. Lemina has given us extra strength as well. I don't see how playing either of Austin, Long or Gabbiadini up front, with one of the others playing slightly wide instead of Redmond (Long and Gabbiadini have both done this previously) can't improve the side. The other day I watched our win up at Anfield when Lovren scored, and I noticed we had Osvaldo up front, Lambert behind him, Jay Rod on the left, Lallana on the right. Very attacking, but we still didn't lose the midfield and gave the opposition plenty to be worried about so they were concerned about sending too many players forward.
-
I agree. Sometimes he lacks concentration and goes on a saunter upfield and gets caught out of position. Something I remember Celtic fans warning us about.
-
Hopefully, the long awaited Morgan replacement. We've looked physically weak , especially in midfield, since Morgan and Wanyama's departure. It will also give us a bit more enthusiasm for the new season after all the Van Dijk crap.
-
He's just making himself look a prat so he would be better leaving well alone and try doing some Premier League defending.
-
I don't believe it's true, and how would they know any rate? It's highly unlikely that a goalkeeper is the highest paid player in any team. They are usually further down the wage scale, with strikers the most regular highest paid players at most clubs.

Sunderland 0 Saints 4 - Post Match Humble Pie
Jackie@home replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Just what we needed! These players who throw a strop when not playing have all had plenty of chances this season with our excessive rotation. They know the answer - play better when they get the chance! After all, Romeu doesn't get rotated. Gabbiadini is just what we need, someone to finish. We play good enough football, but need to take our chances to build our confidence. -
The club probably thought that Fonte would knuckle down and perform up to his usual standard as Morgan did, once a move didn't happen. They are probably extremely disappointed in his behaviour. After all, him being our captain and stalwart of the club, they expected more of him, and he's made plenty of errors this season that he wasn't making in the last couple of years. He must have been undermining the manager to have sold him in January. The club might well have thought that they had this season to sort out a serious long term replacement, and might well have had someone already lined up for the summer who's not available in January. There is a serious shortage of top class centre backs available. If we had signed Sakho, this would have been called a panic signing by many, seeing he hasn't played for Liverpool for ages and Lovren is the alternative, and previous problems with his attitude. It seems that there were problems of fitness with other centre backs they looked at. Easy to whinge, but the chances of anyone selling you a top class centre back in January when they can't find a replacement are small. It's probably only because they are causing trouble. Other teams like Bournemouth have been desperate for a central defender, but have had no luck signing one. I think the plan was to give either Yoshida or Stephens the opportunity to play alongside Virgil until the end of the season, and make a decision whether or not either is good enough for the first team. Unfortunately, Virgil's injury put paid to that plan.
-
It was some time before that because Franny Benali was club captain, even though he didn't play every game. I think he represented the players off the pitch a lot more, whereas Virgil will be very much captain on the pitch on match days. I can see the club wanting to keep Steve Davis at the club after his playing days. He seems an intelligent chap who has had plenty of captaincy experience at international level and represented the players well at Rangers when it was all falling apart. He's also been doing his coaching badges.
-
Agree. If you look at Tadic's stats at international level, he's been scoring and assisting in nearly every game he's played, and is the Serbian player of the year. Puel is not getting the best out of his abilities. We are not regularly being dominated and overrun in midfield and usually have the majority of possession, so we can take more of a chance against the weaker sides and play Long and JRod up front together. How about home to Norwich in the cup? Can't understand why he is so negative. At least try something different, as we can all see the difference between the same players from last season and this.
-
Trouble is half the league need a good striker, but who would be willing to sell us one at this stage of the season? Seems every shot on target against us seems to be going in at the moment. We went through a phase like that last season, but we always looked like we would be able to score to get ourselves out of the rut and up the table. This season, as soon as we go behind we don't look like scoring.

Long standing problems with Poole Council giving them no help or support to find a site for a new stadium after they were ejected from Poole Stadium that they shared alongside speedway and greyhounds for many years, not financial mismanagement. Plus not helped by the nimbys of Poole rejected and objecting to any options for a new stadium.
