Picture of Westwood in Soton Art Gallery vandalised!
Lazlo78 replied to Master Bates's topic in The Saints
You could define a number of aesthetic guidelines for what makes art interesting and this picture - as you insinuate - would probably fail most of them. But it does generate interest and debate which is another aim for contemporary art. As another poster wrote - "would I hang it on my wall?"... No way, but I'll discuss it on the internet and I find the reactions in this thread quite interesting. I see a sad man with weird clothes and tattoos and I pity him. But he does generate more hatred than pity from others - that's interesting, I think -

I agree - the unaltered version is quite interesting and provocative -
Fortunately for me, Norwegian.com opened a flight from Aalborg to Gatwick with cheap tickets - return tickets on the cheapest days are around £70 all included. From Gatwick to Southampton it's not too bad by train... Now if only I wasn't working on that masters thesis :-(

Mistaking Aalborg BK for Copenhagen is like mistaking Celtic for Rangers

Wonderful thread. The team is really building momentum now

Just signed up for the 14-day trial and I was mightily impressed that they offered an entire game! Ok, so I understand it's a first, but perhaps there will be more of this extensive coverage in the future. If that is the case, I'll definitely stay on as a paying member of Saints Player...

Thx... I also interpreted it as a reaction to a 2-3 goal and started panicking :-/

Nice to finally get 3 points in style! Will be interesting to read how the individual players did - Wotton, Mellis, Lallana and James in particular...
-
Blimey, a two goal lead. When was the last time we had one of those (apart form the Yeovil game)?

Lifted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gareth_Bale: "Bale played a record 24 Premier League games for Spurs without being on the winning side. His first involvement in a Premier League victory came against Burnley on 26 September 2009 - more than two years after signing for Spurs - when he came on as an 85th minute substitute." ;-)

I read somewhere that a group of Charlton religious extremists were throwing paper airplanes at our team bus to commemorate 9/11. It's so disgusting - they should have points deducted :-( And someone should have told them they're a day late!

Followed the game in here, as Polish and Swedish telly let me down :-/ Felt the joy of 0-1 and the recurring nightmare of 1-1. However judging by the Charlton onslaught in the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half we were lucky or organized enough to grind out a deserved draw. Of course most would accept a draw away to the free-scoring league leaders as a good result. And of course most will feel disappointed with a draw having been in front. I'm assuming a lot of people will feel this ambivalence towards todays game. At least that's what I'm seeing in this thread. Judging by web reports Wayne Thomas is emerging as a surprise contender to the RB - I guess we all had that spot reserved exclusively for Murty with James as backup. Murty is definitely not going to waltz back into the side once he is match fit again. That's a positive surprise as competition is most often healthy... thank you Mr. Thomas! I've never read any negatives about Harding in here. He just seems too good to be true (not in that he wins matches singlehandedly but in that he seemingly doesn't c*ck up all the time)... Perry starting ahead of Jaidi was a surprise to me but as people wrote in the Perry thread he is a role model professional who certainly hasn't ruled himself out of the team by sulking over Pardews new acquisitions. Perry is not getting younger (or taller) so eventually I hope he'll go back to being a reliable (and vital) squad player. Trotman? Well, judging be reports in here he is also the biz in League One. Someone mentioned Hammond as MoM, others have rated him more average. At least it sounds like he is not a player who disappears from the match like most CM's we've had for... ages :-) Schneiderlin got some positive mention today which is promising. General consensus (yeah right - good one ) seems to be that he is extremely gifted but for some reason can't make it work in our team/League One. I just hope that he can build a good partnership with Hammond, because judging by the reports those two should be able to complement each other nicely. Hammond a bit more mobile and aggressive, Schneiderlin a bit better on the ball. James - was he DMC or RW today? I've read both but DMC seems most likely. If so he is starting to be an integral part of our team - he might see himself ousted by Waigo, but he'll be close to the starting XI. How did he do today? Mills got a lot of positive mention. I've only seen him briefly but he seems a bright spark in the side. With Holmes pushing him all the way for the starting spot and Harding looking out for whoever is in front of him hopefully the left wing shouldn't be a big problem this season... Lallana. Oh well he seems to be the new enigma. Is he crap, is he a genius. Is he a winger, a midfielder or a striker. Is he lazy or misunderstood... Who knows, at least he's scoring some goals in a goal shy side ;-) I thought he'd be played alongside Lambert today in a 4-4-1-1 but I can understand that was not the case. Would have been interesting to see him in the thick of action. Some players thrive better with a touchline nearby, others need space to perform. And lastly Lambert. He has gone a bit quiet. I really do hope it's a question of him doing his usual stuff and the rest of the team slowly getting it right. What one might fear is that by the time the rest of the team gets it right and start producing chances, Lambert has gone way off the boil. Is that a reasonable worry or just plain silly?

You know that's not going to happen...

Me me me me! Yessssssssssss

I'm on a non-UK IP and I can only get Forest - Wednesday (where Blackstock just scored...)...

3-1 victory for the Saints!

They have some quite useful players - I can only imagine that's the "problem" with Papa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiorentina#Current_squad
-
It's ok, he won't use tongue!
-
Unspectacular, limited ability, lack of pace does not necessarily equal a bad player*. Wright, Telfer, Benali or even (takes cover) Carlton Palmer have all done a job for us... * mind you, most often it does equal a bad player ;-)

Good one

I'm happy..... clappy..... Edit: oooh now I can edit. Actually I have one wish but that is probably beyond Pardew's influence. I want one or several of our players to stay here for 5+ seasons and be a regular. I need a Dodd or a Benali that will epitomise the club even if the squad changes from season to season...
-
Bizarre and unexpected signing but he looks REALLY promising :-D Song: Pearl Jam's "Why Go" from Ten?
-
Never mind, at least he didn't think that Denmark was the capital of Amsterdam
-
Afaik, he has trained with the squad for a good while, so he might not take that long to find his place in the team... This could be the finishing touch to our new look defence. A damn mean bunch for League One, I'd say. I hate to get personal with specific players, but the points we have dropped have been with players like Lancashire and Wotton in the team. They're nowhere near the team anymore... makes me less worried about our the outcome of our first 5 games this season...

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments. However, I would like to add, that I think the above is actually directed at a minority of posters as opposed to previous years, where everyone seemed to be miserable gits... So hooray for that!
