  1. Is Dave Merrington really Captain Obvious?
  2. I'm on the Tranmere commentary. He sticks to the basics - who does what on the field...
  3. Would it be possible to have a "Loan watch" thread on this board as I have seen on several other footy boards? I'm always interested in hearing how our players out on loan are doing but the info is scattered across countless threads...
  4. Even though this might just be another contractual/social obligation for the players this probably means the world to those kids. Some of them have very little joy in their life and a visit like this will give them something positive to concentrate on for weeks before and after. Good on SFC for setting it up.

    NFL

3 things: 1) I'm really not a gambling man, but thanks anyway ;-) 2) nfl.com is the yardstick for how a website supporting a sports league should be. Of course it can only be done that way because the NFL owns the rights for everything. But imagine having a similar website for the Premier League where all the highlights and previews where shown alongside all those comments and articles that are now scattered across hundreds of websites... 3) Old stereotypical annoyance towards Americans: please stop calling the American champions of Baseball/Basket/Ice Hockey/Football the "World Champions". Yes they won the dominating league in the world but they still haven't given the rest of the world a go at it... It only fuels those "Americans a arrogant tossers" comments

    NFL

I've been following NFL with some interest for 5-6 years though I haven't really found "my team" yet... I seem to care more about Miami Dolphins' results than the other teams and I am fascinated by their Wildcat plays, so probably they are my favourites... On the also like list: Saints, Vikings, Bengals On the dislike list: Cowboys, Patriots, Giants What I like about NFL is how every play is constructed and planned to the last detail. In the beginning, I just thought that the running back would run at the players and hope for the best. Later I realised that those gaps do not appear per chance: the blocks are designed carefully so that a hole will probably appear at a certain place and time for the running back to dart through. It looks great when they succeed! Also I like the explosivity of the NFL. The players are primed for short, insane bursts of energy where they give it their all. A Rugby player wouldn't have the explosivity to compete in the NFL whereas an NFL-player would never endure the constant, grinding pain of an entire rugby match. I find that I also enjoy european football more after watching NFL. The free motion, creative and open environment of football gives a much wider frame for the participants. Yes, this can result in very boring games but it can also produce sparks of creativity that are probably only seen in the NFL in those situations where the QB is rushed out of his pocket and needs to improvise. Hooray for sports. (oh and don't get me started on the entire draft system, where the least succesful are favoured so that over time they will be more likely to enjoy succes. Every dog has his day in the NFL )
  7. I really like how the whole 4-5-1 vs. 4-4-2 discussion has died down as it seems AP is continuously switching between the two systems to actively shape games in our favour - even switching back and forth more than once during games! Personally I think it's Connolly's "fault" that we are starting with the 4-4-2 as he is just too good to leave out. But with Wotton, Antonio and Waigo waiting in the wings, we can build that 4-5-1 the moment we need it... Having a manager who is willing to do more than set out a starting XI and see what happens (Redknapp, Burley and... well just about every other manager for the last 5 years) is a real strength. It will certainly give us an edge over those teams that are not able to adapt and adjust properly during a game...
  8. Whooops someone opened a bottle of red - mmm yes please. Another 3-1 win and by the sound of it we were well on top of them (aka. "absolutely dominating" ). Today none of the loanees were playing which is good and bad. Bad for obvious reasons. Good because it means that today we've seen that we can actually play well with players that are contracted to SFC. In other words, we're not necessarily screwed if the loans do not work out in our favour... Looking forwards to hearing more details about individual players today!
  9. YES - this is amazing!
  10. Hmmm I'm a first timer subscriber to Saints Player and I'm on a rolling subscription, so I have no idea how to get around this. Either it's a tricky user interface or a technical bug on your pc. Have you tried to go through the steps in a different browser from what you are using now?
  11. Are you already registered as a member or do you need to make an entirely new subscription?
  12. Was just closing down the stream from the Pompey - Burnley game which had gone on to match center, when I spotted Walsall - Saints 0-2 Lambert 38... YES! How could that sneak in between F5's in here?!
  13. Well, you've sort of answered your own question there. If it is as you say, then they won't get better treatment for long. But for now they are actually a Premier League team.
  14. I'll have to go for a 2-2. Even without -10 Walsall would be ahead of us in the table, so they must be doing something right. That said I know next to nothing about them so this is really a stab in the dark
  15. I'll readily admit that I'm an ultimate happy clappy fan as it's the only thing that makes sense to me as a far flung fan. Following Saints is about being entertained and positively interested. When things go bad I can just stop reading fora and mailing lists and be an isolated supporter (meaning that I don't discuss Saints with anyone though my interest is still as keen and I still sit and follow the games online or watch them at the pub). I'll still be as downbeat about defeats and relegations as anyone but my life goes on. So during the last five seasons or so I've been a little less social about following Saints. Now I feel that the "temperature" is right for me to join in a little more on the social side So I only "sing" when people have their hatchets well buried (not in each others skulls that is)
  16. LOL - then you really need to re-read SOG's posting. If sex couldn't even cheer you up during the Lowe years, then I hope you had some other great hobby to keep your spirits up I used to read this forum (and its predecessors) for news, but I never posted as the general mood somehow seemed a bit depressed and confrontational. This season I'm slowly crawling out from under my rock and I'm even a paid member. Something has happened to me but something has certainly also happened to the general mood of this place.
  17. Blimey that was a lot of words to basically tell us that you getting laid on a regular basis this season! Edit: on a more serious note I actually regained interest last season with the appointment of Poortvliet. It was destined to go wrong but playing a team of youngsters was like watching me playing FM - only this was real life. As results let us down and Poortvliet was replaced with the bland Wotte, I felt back to square one (or make that square minus ten)... This season the buzz was back with Liebherr, Cortese and Pardew in the frame, and this time the results are there to keep it going
  18. Ohhhh that Morgan is a naughty, naughty little frenchloving frenchman... I demand that we find new names for french fries and french toast... freedom fr... nah never mind... "cheater taters" and "slimeball sandwich"?
  19. This is actually a chance to put substance into some of the discussions in here. Now we have video evidence to support our arguments. It would be fun to try and analyze the video though it could be very tedious. For example look through the video and only monitor 1 player or one group of players (def/mid)...
  20. I just got a chance to see the highlights. If they were symptomatic of yesterday's game, this was the most comfortable 1-0 win I've seen for a long time. We could easily have scored a handful! :-o
  21. Ohhh delicious. Bookmarked that little gem. Thanks!
  22. Too late http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=518672&postcount=42
  23. How on earth did you dig out that info? I looked around a bit but to no avail...
  24. Sometimes the worse sides drag us down to their level... against Charlton, Norwich etc. we probably played a much better game than today. So I don't find it useful to make conclusions on upcoming top games based on today's performance...
