Fitzhugh Fella replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
OK money where your mouth is I bet my 100 to your 20 we don't get to the Final. If you don't take me up that says in your heart you are writing it off too. -

Sorry to be such a killjoy especially after an excellent performance, but realism kicks in early with me, plus I find having low expectations helps when things go pear shape as they invariably do with us. I will be thrilled to be eating these words in Feb and looking forward to "Meltdown Trousers" digging this thread out in the Spring to gloat. -

Great win but I am afraid it will all be in vain because taking the st Mary's game into consideration there is no way we will beat Liverpool over two legs. -
I agree you need at least a bit of continuity. Now you know why I have given up on this tournament. Foreign managers are only concerned with the Premier League, must be something in their contracts.
-
But who is going to score for us? Genuine question.
-
I think we should spew this game to be frank, don't think we have a chance to make the final and would rather save our powder for next Thursday. league Cup comes around every year unlike the Europa.

Song for Sims? "Who are you"

It is important to point out the booing only took place after the final whistle.

Having witnessed several near punch ups between Saints fans at the final whistle in Prague last night was heartening in a way as it showed the fans at least had a bit of passion. At the end the fans appeared to be divided 3 ways, those who clapped the players performance, those who booed and a group like me who chose to stay silent. personally I would only boo if I thought players weren't trying and that was not the case last night, inept as they all were. However to applaud that lot off last night was "happy clapping" at its most nauseous and I quite understood the booers venting their anger. Sometimes it's healthy for the players to be made aware of how much it means. Certainly by Shane Long's reaction it looked like he couldn't care less. So is it acceptable in certain circumstances to boo? A quick comment on the match - it is looking to me that the wheels on our wagon are starting to show signs of coming off - we were a rabble by the time the final curtain came down.

Sparta Prague 1 Saints 0 - Match Thread & Melt Down

Says someone who spent not a penny travelling all around Europe watching crap football and not even getting a goal to cheer. The moronic armchair fan who calls those that spend their hard-earned money and then dare to moan "bedwetters" in a nutshell. -
Seem to remember you predicted we would spank Prague last week #cloud cuckoo

And I have to say a few fights breaking out between fans at the end between the ones that booed and those simpletons who clapped what was a woeful performance. Long did himself no favours either with his fxxx you gesture to the fans. Walking out of the stadium through the park leading down to the old town there was a massive rendition of "we're **** and we know we are"! Gotta to say having spent two grand on the 3 away Europa games, Saints have let us down. In hindsight Puel and Reed had an indifferent transfer window which is now biting us on the arse. -
Wow I spoke to Kelly two months ago, she certainly has done a good job for this story

A New Charge Against Southampton Football Club

Why would we need to borrow in such a way when our net spend over recent years is in the black? -
It does and we did.

The board faced an "Alan Ball" situation. How to get rid of a popular (with the fanbase) manager. Answer offer him a poor extension knowing he would walk. In the case of Ball make him feel he is not valued.

I think we all would prefer to stick with our present owner but if Ms Libherr wants to sell we are going to have to grin and bear it while hoping new owners will have the resources and acumen to raise the glass ceiling. A big ask. Most clubs experience cyclical ups and downs, we have had a prolonged up in recent years, it might be time to check our seat belts are fastened.

You are just arguing for arguments sake and of course you must have the last word. I don't know everything but I am confident I know more than you do if only for the fact you waste so much time and effort picking fights on here.

Boufal is not a goalscorer and Jeremy Wilson while being a thoroughly decent chap and a good journalist does not know everything. In the end the stats will tell their own tale and, that is, when it comes to finding the net our current strike force is not as potent. End of!

It's a myth that Austin was bought to replace Pelle perpetrated by those trying to convince us all that the club knew what they were doing. Back in January Pelle was in the process of negotiating an extension. So I agree with the OP when he suggests we did not adequately replace our departing goal scorers. The stats are now proving it. We made a mistake, believe it or not we are not infallible, but let's at least be honest enough to acknowledge it. There again we could just deny things with vitriol to anyone who dares to question.
