Storrie in yesterday's Mirror - the tuth is starting to dribble out. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Furious-Peter-Storrie-blasts-former-Pompey-owner-Alexandre-Gaydamak-in-scathing-attack-article137931.html

Probably one of the most sensible posts on here for a long time. People don't seem to realise that until we are informed otherwise all incoming and outgoing expenditure is the exclusive business of, sole owner, Marcus Liebherr's. Whether we got £300,000 or £30m is totally irrelevant. Now if ML decrees that the club must from here on in be self-sufficient then it becomes very important.
-
I still don't reckon he has taken over completely - have PFC released a statement yet? I am enjoying this more and more - especially as a serious wealthy backer backed by the trustworthy (ahem) Peter Storrie appears to be thwarted at the post by an impoverished imposter. This is delicious irony and I almost wish I was living in Portsmouth to hear the reaction. Might drive out east this afternoon and buy myself a News or better still wait until the news sinks in and buy the "football echo" on Saturday. Oh happy day!!!!!

19C, it would give your views more credibility if you had actually gone out, bought the book and read it and then constructively given your balanced opinion. Speaking as someone who had a bit of a row with the man recently I still find it incredible that you can criticise his personality, ambition drive etc without ever meeting him. Everyone is fallible, everyone makes mistakes but everyone is not MLT. The most gifted player I set eyes on and I saw Matthews (not in his heyday accepted), Law, Charlton, Best (no not Leon), Keegan, Shearer etc. He is also the most modest of men and nothing is too much trouble. Any faults you refer to are far outweighed by his many pluses and pure footballing genius. Unless you are prepared to read the book I would, with respect, give it a rest.
-
That surely is a case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They get the dodgy potless doctor when Storrie had a genuinely wealthy benefactor lined up. !!!!

No it wasn't the fish and chip shop, it was a dress makers shop. Can't believe So'ton at one stage had two 20th century comedy greats living within a mile of each other. Living in Archers Rd I regularly used to bump into Benny while he was walking to the Coop in Bedford Place durung the 70s.

Bern have to confess i expected you to wade in on this post but you didn't - appreciate that especially as I was a little short with you the other day - my apologies. I think you and I learned our lesson I guess - fall out but don't get personal. The internet is a strange place for sure.

I wasn't fishing for praise or ridicule, by and large most on here have a little pop take the **** and move on. Fair does. But when you are trying to tell something which is a little awkward - almost inviting people to read between the lines - it is a bit of a bummer when you get a load of bull**** comments. Maybe I should be a little less precious, maybe i am too sensitive but some times just a little more thought before posting would work wonders.

Perfect example krissyboy - I don't think Weston Super saint even read what I wrote. No problem with people's opinions - that's what makes this forum tick - it's the unneccesary insults etc. Occasionally I go over the top but I like to think I can apologise when things calm down TDD and I had a spat last week but we at least never insulted each other.
-
The trouble is I want to tell people what I know but often it's hard without breaking confidences. I don't want to be accused of dangling, teasing or leading people on or boasting about being ITK because sincerely that is not me. I've never been one to sit in corporate or ingratiate myself with players - I am happy having a few jars and having a good old day out watching Saints with some friends. I love gossip (especially transfer targets) and like to share what I get. I am lucky -i live close to So'ton and because i am an oldish git these days and have been around the club a long time i get old things (some planted info I grant you). What's the point of knowing if you can't pass it on - good or bad. Mind you one here if its bad news then you will be shot!

do amaze me. Last week I posted an answer on Trousers's questioning thread concerning Pulis jnr. What I posted I knew to be 99.9% fact and yet one poster ridiculed it and called it bull****. I pm'ed him offering to reveal my source and complete the story (which was and still is a little sensitive). I said I would tell him if he kept it condfidential and once he had possesion of the facts would he edit the bull**** bit. Thought that was a reasonable offer. The person never even bothered to reply even though he has been a regular visitor on here since. I pm'ed him again this afternoon just in case he missed my first message but he has chosen not to reply. His right off course but wouldn';t it have been best if he hadn't made his ignorant comment in the first place? I do sometimes wonder the point of posting snippets if people rubbish it willy nilly and then don't even bother to find out more. This forum has some great posters and it is a good place to let off steam, find out things and generally chat to other Saints addicts but some do nothing than insult and wind up hiding behind keyboards while wallowing in their anonyminity. Tbh I don't feel the point any more of posting things on here - can't be bothered with the crap. Perhaps I will just pm the people on here who are genuine with things I get to hear. I will lurk - after all this forum can be addictive, but that will be it, contribution wise for a while once this thread has run its course. Thank God I hear some say.

Good read - thanks. I am still not so sure MLT knew where Pinnacle's money was coming from tbh.

Munto Finance v Markus Liebherr (Notts County v Saints)
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
thing is it would be HIS reckless spending compared to OUR reckless spending in the past. -
Extracts from Friday's Echo - Matt on Rupert, Harry and Clive for those who missed it on another thread. He also talks about Lowe offering him a coaching job at SMS bit the money on offer was a pittance. "The next twist left me gobsmacked. Even allowing for the fact that Saints had turned into a soap opera no one could see this coming. A scriptwriter would have rejected it as totally implausible. Rupert, in all his wisdom, appointed as Technical Director Sir Clive Woodward. That's right, the man who led England to World Cup glory - at rugby. A man with a wealth of experience and knowledge....none of it in football. But look at the context. Relegation had cost the club £50m so it just didn't have the money to make quirky appointments. All the available cash should have been directed at getting us back into the Premier league. Then you bring in extra back room staff and improve the gym. Instead Rupert was star-struck by Sir Clive and by the idea of revolutionising the game. All the values that had served this club so well for so many years were dismissed out of hand as "old football" and he (Lowe) opted instead for Sir Clive and the likes of Simon Clifford who was so far up his own backside that he needed a glass belly button to see out. He came from mighty Gosforth Town, a non-league club that he's pledged to take to the prem within 10 years..... Bringing in Simon Clifford was one of Clive's biggest mistakes. He came in with a big ego and inflated ideas of his own importance , all through making his name from Soccertotts coaching courses. Dealing with hardened experienced pros was totally different. He had no real experience of the game at the top level but talked like he was God's gift. So, you had Sir Clive woodward with all his forward thinking emphasis on sports science sharing an office with Harry Redknapp, a traditional old-fashioned football man. I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall in that office when they were together". MLT on Harry and Rupert "Rupert is like a city toff full of himself to the point of arrogance while Harry is what Rupert would call "old football". He is down to earth, a man of the people, a bit of a wide boy and a wheeler dealer who knows the game, and I thought it was a very good appointment. We were third from bottom but I was confident he's sort it out. Rupert and Harry were like chalk and cheese and they were never going to hit it off. THE THING ABOUT HARRY IS YOU HAVE TO LET HIM DO THINGS HIS WAY (my capitals). Harry is a law unto himself - but he gets the job done. If he had been allowed to do that, I think he would have kept Saints up. But it was clear that he hated the environment and having to work for Rupert".

dellgirl - don't want to knock but there were plenty of posts like yours the season we went down from the Prem. Indeed Rupert said our lowly position was just a blip. Saints fans need to keep their heads well and truly above the sand these days. But these days are early days - so let's save judgement until Xmas.

A Brentford fan and a friend of mine said yesterday after the match he thought St Marys to be an intimidating place.

Yes I do. He knows his football inside out as can be seen on Sky most weekends. Matt is also as honest as the day is long. "Nous of a turnip" - well if I was Matt I would laugh at that coming from an armchair critic such as SoG. Matt was naive maybe, even gullible and he should have checked out Pinnacle much more thoroughly, but I suppose that is with the benefit of hindsight plus he was as frantic as the rest of us in hoping we would not go to the wall. Perhaps Matt could lay all this to rest by actually telling why Pinnacle really folded and clear up a few side issues and then we can all move on.

Knew how to run a coach and wear a sheepy tho'
-
Sorry mate - if you think today's performance was "pretty good" either your standards have slipped or you are far too easily satisfied. If we settle for this every week then we are truly in for a grim season. No offence.
-
Interesting that the 3 leading contenders for mom are all new arrivals?
-
I am of course reluctant to agree with TDD in this week of all weeks but I thought Saga injected urgency and nous - two aspects very much missing from Paterson's game. Although I can understand the antagonism towards the two Polish forwards the truth is they both offer more options than Paterson and, should they leave without adequate replacements, than poor old Lambert is going to have a cold lonely winter. Saga could still do a good job for us this year alongside Lambert.

A fair report although possibly too kind to James who crossed the ball like he had a shovel for a foot. But.............. Patience is a virtue us fans do not have. I was shocked at Huddersfield at our ineptness and although there were promising signs today we have far to many light weights (James, Thomson, Patterson, Schneiderlein, Lallana) for this Division. Pardew made some strange remarks in last night's Echo which implied us fans would be made a lot clearer as to the direction the club would be heading in 3-4 weeks. He said (from memory) that some players would go and then we would get some in and then the fans would see the club's agenda. He added that he didn't want to create a mystery about it all and it would be plain in a few weeks. Very intriguing I thought. It would be easy to come on here and let of steam tonight because it was so very frustrating at SMS today especially having to watch James and Thompson put in such a pathetic 2nd half and then see the Brentford full back complete a barnstorming run and cross but I do think we will have to give it at least 3 months before we cast judgement. Interesting how Charlton have regained their composure mind you. Shows I suppose it is possible to turn a club around in a short period of time and correct me if I am wrong they have done it on a shoestring???
