  1. Sometimes they were amusing but more often than not he was trying to be too clever. Pardew actually appears to enjoy talking and explaining.
  2. I've said before but what I like most is the way he talks. I can't remember when we last had a manager who makes so much sense when he opens his mouth. After Strachan's smart arse one liners and Burley's mumblings hearing AP's verdicts on things is very refreshing. The guy can communicate and that's part of the battle.
  3. Is he injured, not even on the bench today?
  4. Peter Storrie quoted yesterday talking about the new owner(s). "It is a difficult market in the financial world at the moment. They took the club over with little or no due diligence because of the situation with Sulaiman". So the new owner is a "they" which is news to me and "they" bought the club with "little or no due diligence". Christ they must still be in shock!
  5. Does anyone know if the the new owner passed the fit and proper owner tests laid down by the Prem?
  6. Non sensible answer - presides?
  7. Good shout. One thing is for certain you cannot believe a word that emerges from Farton these days.
  8. They are becoming an embarrassment to the Premiership with this monthly wages farce going on. I reckon the new owners are willing administration. It can old be days away, surely.
  9. Sounds good. He means Markus presumably. No point having money in the bank while watching 3rd Div football.
  10. Yes it is. My wife said to me on Saturday "WHERE are you going"? Last night she said "WHO are you playing?" Last week it was " HARTLEPOOL, you're joking"? I daren't tell her we've got Walsall on Saturday! When I first met her I took her to Saints v Liverpool FA Cup semi-final at White Hart Lane, so she thinks Saints are a BIG club. Mind you, growing up in Sunderland she used to serve Bovril at Roker Park so she knows the gritty side of football. The sooner we get back to at least the CCC the better although I feel there is work to be done on that squad yet before we can regard ourselves as 2nd tier material. (There's the negative in me - I can't help it)
  11. You put this more eloquently than I could. We all support the Saints. We are all happy when we win. It's just all of us have different ways of expressing that support and happiness. One thing I am learning on this forum is there is no right or wrong and there has to be room for both the "happy clappies" and the "moaning minnies" to co-exist even though we both seem to get irked by each other's posts. I have had a good look at myself, Saints and things I say on here. I think I am too negative and from now on I shall try to stop over negative posts. That's my contribution. I accept the stats give pleasure to lots on here and they should be allowed to enjoy those stats. It would be great too if those people also appreciate there are quite a few who have the views of Chapel Charlie and who prefer to post notes of caution in order we don't get too carried away with ourselves. As for the Torquay game - would it have changed any views if the result had been decided on the flick of a coin?
  12. Very fair report back. Antonio's mazy run towards their goal had us all clutching our sides at the end.
  13. Fair assessment - I am not a huge admirer of Papa Waigo and last night was very frustrating but prefer him over BWP any day.
  14. Like I said recently linesmen simply cannot keep up and a lot of their decisions are based on hunches these days. Most of the time they are never level with play which is the only place to be to make a fair judgement.
  15. Agree 100% - that was painful!
  16. still surprised they found 8 tbh. Like someone said - they must all be outsiders or Maccaibi fans.
  17. Picture is from the TopicalTimes football yearbook - I remember it well.
  18. The Guardian ran a poll asking will Grant keep Pompey up? The result declared today was 53% said Yes and 47% said No. I didn't realise there were that many Guardian readers down in Skatesville.
  19. But you decreed Nick's thread as harmless. Do you not think it bizarre that someone should post a thread consisting only of a list of our last 12 results with no comment? Come on.... answer that honestly. Ponty. You know damn well why he started this thread - it was to goad those that were not gushing enough for him. He was posting it in relation to his previous post the day before on our last 11 games and he was baiting. Someone even said earlier in this thread they knew his message would be posted before they powered up their lap top. NickG is on an evangelical mission with poor little sidekick Hypo his main disciple. No problem, they have every right, but if this forum is to be successful then adverse comment to their zealousness must be permitted without the ponderous plod of Ponty's footprint.
  20. Nick telling us how grateful we should all be, how rosy everything is and how if we don't agree we should get another hobby! Great form? You weren't there on Saturday obviously.
  21. "Give it a rest" you say in a statesmanlike manner, but then you take sides with your opinion that it is "harmless". Sorry old chap I don't agree. Maybe you see it as harmless but there again maybe you don't "see" too deep. He was "baiting", and if Ponty, you can't see that, then mebbe you should not be a mod.
  22. Sums it up - I think he needs to get out more - perhaps the odd away game?
  23. Then why did you start yet another tedious thread containing only the list of the teams recent results? Do you think we are idiots or something? We are all aware of recent results, thanks. It's in the Pink, the programme, websites etc etc but you still think it so important we all need reminding; so you start two threads on the subject in as many days. No doubt if we win tomorrow you will start another 13 games blah blah blah. Give it a rest man - are you on commission or something? I really am quite amused/bemused by your apparent obsession to turn this whole forum into a bunch of happy clappies. Sorry mate, but like Chapel End Charlie I will make my own my mind up on the Saints by what I see on the pitch and post accordingly.
  24. R3 Chelmsford City (a) 1938-39. Lost 4-1 Old Codger was there amid the 10,741 crowd, ask him about it - our only loss thus far to a non League side in the Cup.
  25. I wonder who it was who turned that song from Andover's finest into "Give it to Ron, give to Ron On his head, on his head" Sheer poetry.
