  1. I think some of us need to get real. It was the biggest non secret last close seaon that AP had reached the end of the road as far as NC was concerned. NC hesitated because "legends" like MLT, L Mac weighed in to support AP and even NC baulked. Everyone vaguely connected with the club knew it was only a matter of time - hence it filtering down to no bodies like me. Why some on this forum can't see the wood for the trees is beyond me but I see St Marco is still "struggling" this evening. Coincidence? I don't think so.
  2. You make I laugh! Roll over Ottery
  3. Absolutely no inside info on this - Coppell would once have been a good bet and I think O'Neil would have been approached by Les Reed who, I was told on Aug 1st, is the man tasked with finding our next manager! However NC runs the show or has the final say and I think he will have a continental man lined up.
  4. Ginge maybe a good poster I try not to remember who is good and who is bad, but Nick let me tell you AP knew he was going in the summer, all his staff knew it. He held on to get his severance cheque. This last month has been a joke, NC should have done what he wanted at the season's end instead of let it carry over. His removal was nothing to do with the last 48 hours. It was inevitable. I was told that the evening of the Reading match.
  5. I really love your posts. When I read them I suddenly realise I am such a bumptious twit! I think I need to move to Devon and drink more cider. I am worried re Saints tonight but you make I laugh Ottery. O'Neil? Good shout. Cotterill - politically brilliant. But my bet is probably someone with a Italian heritage - Zola. Yr handbag is in the post!
  6. Hi Ginge, Not sure why you think me sad? I post something I believe to be true, you rubbish what I say and include a remark about the job I have just been sacked from after 35 years, 4 weeks later I am proved right and I ask you to reconsider what you wrote? Not looking for a row just a tiny bit of redemption. Also let me sing the praises of Hypo a bit. I have had my share of run ins with him over the years but can I say he has the guts to put his hand up and admit when he is wrong. He contibutes massively to this Forum and keeps away from the personal stuff. If this forum lost posters like him it would be a worse place.
  7. So my informant was full of sh*t was he? Care to retract that view? He wasn't, he is close to AP (or was) and that is why I bothered to post it. Replies like yours sometimes makes me think wonder why I bother. I want Saints to succeed, I don't like what I hear sometimes but that doesn't mean the truth should not be made public. I don't agree with AP's removal - if it was going to be done it should have happened in the summer. NC had the axe poised but bottled it. AP knew he was a dead man walking, the players knew it too. This whole thing was just waiting to happen as I told you on August 1st.
  8. Care to have a rethink?
  9. Gingeletiss - care to amend your comment? Your reference to BA was uncalled for at the time!
  10. Weston giving us the low down on AL is very refreshing and reassuring. His family taking the time to clarify things is also welcome and appreciated. I wish Adam the best of luck because we need him on the pitch. It would be great - when possible and realistic - if the club could be a little more quicker to inform on such matters which would then lead to a reduction of harmful speculation or confusion. I accept we have no God given rights anymore - it would just be nice that's all!
  11. Just back. Positives - Martin (playing alongside Fonte is a bonus) but he improves with every game. Barnard - worked his socks off and deserved the goal, although he could have had 3 or 4 in the last 10 minutes when we ran them ragged. Guly - nice little cameo at the end - Carlton Palmer or Patrick Viera you take your pick. Dickson - who replaced Lallana - soon got into the groove and linked well with Harding. Good close control by both players near the touchline. Lallana was good in the first half and his injury was bizarre as he went down while watching Schneiderlin's poor pass sail into the stands after the 2nd H kicked off. He walked off the pitch without limping and I would hazzard a guess that he tweaked his old injury. Butterfield was steady and even Hammond did OK as did Puncheon. I felt in the last 15 minutes we toyed with them a bit and we could have been more ruthless. In the end it was an extremely comfortable away victory as I have ever seen but had a speculative shot of theirs gone in instead of hitting the bar with 20 mins left it might have been a different story? Perhaps not. Just 2 Negatives and being a bit picky - Lambert way off the pace, Schneiderlin anonymous (but I am blinkered as to his talents). Last time I saw Saints score 4 away was in September 1974 v Oxford, so 36 years later it was good to see another 4 goal "thrashing". We MUST follow this up with a win on Saturday though. HAPPY DAYS. Finally, met Nick I in the pub afterwards and got the inside story re his ST - but not for this thread. Just going to enjoy a very emphatic performance which I did not expect. The players reaction at the end was interesting as there was a lot of fist pumping and genuine enthusiasm, especially from Fonte. A good day out!
  12. Pardew was reported in last night's Echo saying we won't be signing Antonio.
  13. I heard Puckett had been "relieved of his duties" about a month ago. This signing is intriguing inasmuch as he is older than Schneiderlin and Antonio when they both arrived and yet is only considered a development player for now. If he is 19 he should be banging on the 1st team door fairly quickly at this level I would have thought?
  14. Mandaric or Chenrai Lucky skates - Spoilt for choice
  15. Dear Mr exile on main St - How long is it reasonable to let the "we are lucky to have a club" argument prevail over sensible criticism of the way the team is playing under the current manager? Please let me know so I can then re-enter the debate.
  16. I hear AP is one of a four man committee who takes decisions on transfers. NC is on the committee as is Reed and the guy who heads up scouting. I also hear AP is none too enamoured with the arrangement.
  17. Dead man walking, he knows it! A great shame but NC decided in May to get rid and only changed his mind due to legend pressure! I see no progress now until Cortese gets his ultimate wish! Not giving a who is right or wrong opinion here but it needs sorting as otherwise no chance of promotion!
  18. SC leaving Bristol is a strange one and him leaving Man City was/is also shrouded in mystery. We have a mutual friend and I have met him once or twice. He was definitely NC's 1st choice of manager and was on his way down the M3 to sign the contract but then had second thoughts due to him not having enough time off between jobs. When I heard the news today my first thoughts were that he may be approached, if AP departs. But then it said he is leaving management which makes me think there could be something in CB's OP. These are strange days indeed.
  19. Spot on!
  20. The Echo have now waded in with a statement on the back page and invited the club to a meeting to discuss the situation. They point out that in days of yore when the club declined to send a photographer to away games they would let the club have their pics no charge.
  21. Surely there was more bickering on this forum (or its predecessor) when Lowe was jousting with klingons or throwing train paintings in the skip? Actually looking back I think we had more fun in those days - I sort of miss Lowe...a bit!
  22. I just had this email (cut and pasted below) from someone who is close to things. This person has never given me duff gen. Make of it what you will, I am not going to comment. "The club can claim the Echo isn't banned, but they will only allow certain reporters in. I can't see Ian Murray letting the club say who of his staff can and can't cover games. I think the real reason The Sun went to town yesterday was down to the incident at Staplewood last Thursday when Sky were refused entry to the media day (yes, the media day when only BBC Radio Solent and Meridian were allowed in, no newspapers). No mention made of that in the club statement. As I said, Sky Sports editor took it a long way up the News Corp chain of command. As paymasters of the FL coverage, they don't take kindly to being told to **** off by a two-bob club. It's not a smart move to brass off the broadcaster who is going to provide live coverage of your game 48 hours later. It's why NewsCorp have taken the muzzle off The Sun and they could well decide not to cover any more Saints games this season".
  23. I agree 100% Minty and you can bet your bottom dollar if the fans would welcome transparancy so would the staff and the players/managers. Like you say NC is entitled to do exactly what he wants, we have no rights or say on how our club is being run any more, and I am eternally grateful he persuaded ML to become involved, but if promotion is to be achieved we need a "together ship" and from where I am sitting it appears that there is some doubt that is the case.
  24. I think you will find AC Milan emphatically denied this I for one always enjoy reading the national's report of our games because it is written from an unbiased standpoint. The Observer's write-up of the Saints v Pompey Cup-tie last season is a perfect example. When compiling writing the books I have always preferred to quote national rather than local reports.
  25. I gather work did start and certain elements have been completed. There was then a hitch which I am loath to reveal on here because I would get shot and now fresh builders are being sought.
