  1. Need corroboration Derry. We were told means nothing
  2. Trying to explain why Pardew didn't want to keep him and there was speculation that he was Cortese's suggestion was there not? If it is untrue then happily take it out. While fans are not told the whole story sometimes you have to report speculation. People like to know why.
  3. But was he?
  4. Just doing the first draft profile of the above for our forthcoming Who's Who (title undecided) and thought due to the fact I could never make my mind up about him I would listen to the views of the great unwashed on here. Here is what I have written - have I been fair? N’DIAYE Papa Waigo 2009-10 b. Saint Louis, Senegal 20 Jan 1984 6’1” Career: Verona Jun 2002/Cesena 2005/Genoa Sep 2007/Fiorentina 2008 (Lecca loan Jan 2009)(SOUTHAMPTON loan Sep 2009)(Union Sportiva Grosseto loan) Debut: v Charlton Athletic (a) 12 Sep 2009 as sub Last: v Southend United (h) 8 May 2010 as sub Signed on a season long loan with an option to make it permanent, Papa Waigo N’Diaye was a player capable of provoking a cheer or heckle in the same breath. At his best he was almost unplayable with his unorthodox style, blistering speed and coltishness. But at his worse with his seeming ignorance of the offside law, his inconsistency and his occasional selfishness he could be frustrating. As the season progressed however his pluses outgrew his minuses and without his contribution and goals the Johnstone Paint trophy would never have made its way down the M3. Very much an impact player - as can been seen by his substitute’s tally - it was a surprise when the option of making the deal permanent in the close season of 2011 never materialised, although all along there had been speculation that Alan Pardew had been persuaded by Chief Executive Nicola Cortese to bring him to the club in the first place. In January 2011 his owning club Fiorentina allowed him to make another loan move, this time to Grossetto, a Serie B team. Comp App Sub Gls FL 11 24 5 FAC 3 0 1 Other 4 2 5 Total 18 26 11
  5. Total and utter respect!
  6. Not seen the Peach piece before but it is interesting inasmuch that Lawrie often says Peachy never missed a pen but in the article he confessed to missing 2 out of 4 that season!
  7. That is one clever post. No he did not.
  8. Pancake care to comment?
  9. How could I forget Gerry, I used to drink with him in the Fitzhugh. He was down here for the 2006 reunion.
  10. Come on Pancake - that was uncalled for. I wasn't there last night but from what I saw on the tele it looked to be a fantastic occasion and if the organisers wanted to give LM an award without him being privy then that is entirely up to them. The fact the "Doc" made the effort to turn up to present it speaks volumes. I know LM is not everyone's cup of tea but I do know whenever I open an Echo he is in there doing some sort of charity work. He was interviewed last night and gave credit to NC and Markus and re-emphasized his support for the club. Why there is this constant sniping I don't get.
  11. You should have an "interesting" time with Brian. Going back to the original post - song titles anyone I have just found we had a C Moon who played 1 game in 1909-10.
  12. I assume you are referring to the two Cardiff cup final tickets that Lowe eventually "found" for LM. I was told they were in among the fans and not with the official Saints party. LM took offence and refused to go. Not arguing the rights and wrongs of Lawrie's actions but it is not quite right to describe Lowe's gesture as an olive branch. It was a calculated snub or that how it was taken. My source? LM himself.
  13. An olive branch with thorns on I believe.
  14. He's having a lie-in - all that *****ing is hard work
  15. The anonymous voice of rampant jealousy?
  16. I agree entirely. I suppose the big difference is that NC represents the owners and therefore they can do what they please while Rupert was wholly answerable to the shareholders and to a lesser extent us fans. Off the field Lowe did allright - for me it was when he started getting involved on the pitch, but let's not go there.
  17. Spy - I am not close to anyone at the club any more so no real insights from there. I know Tim Manns and I know he was asked to "professionalise" the ex-Saints by creating a proper data base etc. I also know someone put a bit of money into it and bought a box which various ex-Saints would be invited to. Whether or not that person is still around i do not know. I also know Roy Beazely who was very helpful when we did the Give it to Ron appeal but he has been pretty unwell recently. I am not really sure the politics of new v old but I think it about time everything came under one umbrella and it would be nice if the club sponsored it and thereby had an element of control. Old players are sometimes regarded as hangers on I know but at the same time they are part of our history. Tough call really. Does Joe Bloggs who played 1 game in 1957 qualify for a freebie. Where do you join the line? I don't know why the club did not organise something re a dinner to mark the 125th. By not doing so it opened itself up to criticism and someone else organising something which has in turn led to all these rumours. It does seem remarkable that all of us have one common ambition to see Saints suceed but so many of us fall out. I don't believe ex Saints managers players etc want to see Saints fail because they don't get on with NC like some on here claim. Lawrie and Matt love the club as much as you and I and while both air their grievances as fans they are both entitled. I think the Echo love all this because it gives them something to write about. Don't think too many Echo journalists are Saints fans anyway.
  18. After last Saturday?
  19. There was some debate in the pub last night that the club have banned the crest being used in the Echo's obituary pages. Don't know if it is true but I haven't noticed it recently.
  20. It does amuse me when the Echo report something vaguely anti-Saints it gets heaped with vitriol and questions about its accuracy but when it prints positive news it is showered with praise and no one questions its veracity. The messenger who brings bad news always gets shot especially on football forums.
  21. I think we need some stats from NickG at this stage
  22. I saw that and thought it sort of summed the Echo up perfectly. Very toe-cringeing error.
  23. Here's a link to the actor who played Adam http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pernell_Roberts
  24. OK - who was the Saints forward named after an actor in Bonanza?
  25. I can put you in touch with Manny - he is really good to talk to - he lives in C Ford. Another avenue is Bill Beaney who knows everyone and can be contacted outside the players entrance on match days. duncan@duncanholley.co.uk
