  1. Not many people know this but Clive Dunn's god son was my best man at my first wedding. HTH
  2. A reliable source at Pompey? You're having a laugh, Steve Wilson
  3. They considered going to the police but MacCloughlin got very nasty and threatening and they just didn't want the trouble or publicity, plus they were still hoping that maybe Tom Mac would land Allen.
  4. Paul Allen was never interested but a guy who had had some dealings with him (Tom Mac) managed to convince Leon Crouch and Lawrie Mac that Allen WAS interested and even managed to take a few bob off them when he said he was trying to seal the deal. The club were basically conned.
  5. Beautifully crafted Rallyboy
  6. Can anyone remember a previous occasion when the chairman sacked a Saints manager against the wishes of the majority of fans? I suppose you could say Souness was a kind of constructive dismissal, but other than that I can only think of Dave Merrington
  7. Thats because initially Pardew was sacked only for NC to change his mind hours later. This has come from someone who was in the room when it happened
  8. Reading the varying press reports of yesterday's meeting and trying to make sense of what is being said between the lines I would say NA is now on borrowed time and the only delay is that NC has no one lined up. This is worrying in itself but even more worrying is the mention of Di Canio - that truly would be a disaster of titanic proportions if only because of his extreme politics.
  9. Thanks for that - but I suggest there is only one person taking the decisions - incidentally the Mirror has a different slant on yesterday's meeting http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-boss-nigel-adkins-facing-1420067
  10. I would love to know who the other board members are and how much actual power they wield
  11. I agree - this speculation cannot be a good thing and it has become too loud to ignore. If NC does not intend to sack NA perhaps it is a good time to make a statement so we can all then start concentrating on beating Swansea.
  12. This has all the hallmarks of Crouch being "desperate" to keep Burley when the Scottish FA came calling!!! Trevor Birch can't hold out for too much otherwise he will lose the chance to cash in what must be manna from heaven. He'll take the 50 grand and run but can't jump too soon as Blackpool will smell a rat.
  13. Bit like me Alpine, yesterday's man!
  14. This
  15. Err not quite Who would you replace NA with, people calling for his head don't seem to be paying this small detail much attention.
  16. Blaming NA is pointless. This club has been mismanaged since promotion and the finger should be pointed at NC.
  17. Christ, this guy needs serious therapy and I am not joking. That piece is an exercise in self denial that needs a place in medical manuals.
  18. This made me nod my head in agreement
  19. sums it all up really http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/the-last-word-mums-dying-wish-shames-chelsea-stance-8280529.html
  20. The big change is money which has unnaturally made the premiership an attraction for the world's best players/money grabbing mercenaries. Back in the 80s survival in the top tier was nothing like as important and clubs were just as keen to win a FA Cup or even lift the UEFA cup. Now just staying alive in the elite league has become the b all and end all and, as a result very cut throat. We are deluding ourselves in this country just because we have the best and most exciting league everything in the garden is rosy. It is not - just look at the standard of the home countries international teams and the fact that only 34% of the players who play in the Prem are eligible for the England team. I am not advocating a return to the "Readers Digest for shin pads" era just a recognition that it is all getting a bit out of hand and that football in this country will end up eating itself. We could start by looking hard at the people who run and control the game in this country - start at the top. Let's have a look at what happens in the Bundesliga for example. I love football but i can honestly say I was looking forward to watching the Braintree Cup-match today *****il it was rained off) as I was Reading v QPR.
  21. Waiting for Godot
  22. Yea I am coming around to this way of thinking. What is going on at the moment in the prem is monstrous. The playing field is so uneven that even the likes of Arsenal are struggling and when you then just look how Chelsea have behaved recently, the prices, the diving etc etc etc you have to ask yoursef just what is the point. Football has sold its soul and to be the Prem you have to do the same. Struggling to see the real benefits. I suppose you could argue revenue but now we are privately owned even that doesn't mean as much.
  23. Don't hang your hat on the fact an IT will deliver justice
  24. Chanson d'amour - you had to be there 1977
  25. But does NA want to stick with NC? Million dollar question
