If Saints Supporters had taken over the club....
Fitzhugh Fella replied to eelpie's topic in The Saints
Rupert only owned 10% sure enough but he had the support of all the big institutions who held shares in us. As for Pompey the fans own a minority of the shares compared to the property developers - it is only a matter of time before their world disintegrates in rancour, it is inevitable. -
That is an ignorant statement. Billy Bragg has been very respectful since her death. If you ever met him Nick I think you would be very impressed with his genuine desire to promote humanity.

Like she respected the fans that died at Hillsborough you mean?

Remaining Fixtures for bottom teams...
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
So we are 66/1 to get relegated - and yesterday a horse won the GN on those same odds. I'll wait a while before celebrating -
Nicola Cortese - Is he worth £1.576m per annum?
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
Club worth considerably more than it was when he took charge, so the answer has got to be yes, let's hope the upward spiral continues. -
Realistic target placing next season - current squad?
Fitzhugh Fella replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
threads like this just tempt fate, would have best kept for the close season IMO -

Is there any team you dislike more than Pompey?

Wash your mouth my son........ -
I understand all the answers to my point but do maintain it is a bit rough if Adkins got players foisted on him against his wishes, and say those players don't meet standards (Mayuka perhaps), then it is he who gets the bullet. I am not saying his sacking was wrong, just a manager surely needs to have the uppermost say on who we are to sign as long as the finances meet the approval and sanction of the Chairman. Otherwise it's like telling an artist to paint with some elses brushes or a F1 driver to drive someone elses car. Having said that I do think Adkins made a monumental error approaching the Premiership with just Gazza and Davis as our keepers. For that alone - if it was his decision - he deserved to be replaced.

A good read but it leaves one question in my mind. If the manager has little say about what players the club buys why should he be the one sacked when things go pear shaped?

Thanks for all the responses and for the poll - getting some good feedback

We soon hope to be publishing our book on the careers/lives of over 1000 players who have played competitive football for the Saints since 1887 (first entered Hampshire Junior Cup) but cannot decide between these 3 titles ALL THE SAINTS SAINTS ALL TOLD WHOLLY SAINTS Would be interested to get the views of this forum if that's ok with the mods

played a couple of games for the reserves in 91-92

If they showed an ounce of humility I would spare them liquidation, perhaps, but just reading their responses to Unhappy Appy's sacking shows their delusion and arrogance remains undiminished. For that they must be sent to oblivion.

I like what you have done there

Can you remember L Mac's long leather trench coat? Very Gestapo...ish

Clough's green sweat shirt, blue trackie bottoms was a classic

Don't think I can recall seeing Ted Bates, Lawrie McMenemy or Harry Redknapp wearing a pair of slim fit denims on the touchline before? Is Mauricio our most stylish manager of all time or do others prefer the Alan Ball cloth cap look or even Paul Sturrock's crumpled fried egg sandwich image. Nigel always looked smart in a suit but there again so did Ian Branfoot.

Saints 3 Liverpool 1 - Post Match Reactions
Fitzhugh Fella replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
I found the Liverpool comments much more rational than most other fans forums. They know their football -
Still think we should have kept him for cover, Schneiderlin is a booking away from suspension
