  1. I think the answer to your question is because what is the point of standing for a political system that is - in his mind and mine - completely broken. Whatever side of the political fence you sit our current politicians are dysfunctionally only interested in staying in power and not actually governing to the greater good of society. Brand is articulating what a vast majority feel. Love him or hate him he talks more sense than any politician I have seen or heard in the last 10 years or more.
  2. Max you go for it - the more the merrier as far as I am concerned. I befriended a young French/Mauritian lad many years ago who married a friend of my wifes. He was football mad and asked if I could take him to the Dell which I did and he became as fervent as me. He lives in SA now but still follows the club with passion. People who were born and live outside the UK are quite entitled to support a club and if that club is Southampton then there is nothing wrong with that in my eyes.
  3. Some pretty fair opinions but one thing I am convinced about is...... if Carroll is preferred to him then that will be a travesty. Lambert may not be of World Cup standard (debatable) but sure as hell he is better than the Jessie from Upton Park.
  4. of making the squad that goes to Brazil? The Echo are of the opinion that it is a shoe in but I am not so sure. Reckon it is 50/50 and very dependent on his form over the next 6 months. Interested in other's opinion on his chances.
  5. Both are

  8. I know I would rather have him on the bench than Do Prado notwithstanding how much he costs us.
  9. Steve if you come to the event you can pick your book up and get it signed but I won't be able to run around getting people's books signed for them I am afraid. D
  10. we've been lucky with injuries so far and there will come a time when Do Prado let's us down
  11. With Do Prado being preferred to Ramirez on the bench that says a lot about what MP thinks of Ramirez and that is a worry.
  12. STOP PRESS - The book is now going to be launched on the 29th November in conjunction with the ex-Saints at the Holiday Inn at 7:30. Lots of ex-players like Matt, Terry Paine, Mick Channon etc etc will be there. Tickets £6 from me (send me a cheque and a sae) and if you buy a copy of the book you get your six quid back. Fuller details later
  13. Patrick - I will do but give it another month as we are up to our eyes in this book. He has kept all his tapes so shouldn't be a problem
  14. It's not been a bad 4 years to be fair but there will always be the nagging worry what happens when the money stops rolling in...............................................
  15. The guy in the wheelchair was Stuart Williams I think - David Bull was talking to him today
  16. Noodles, I do know 9-3, he is a good Saints fan and was involved in the printing of Suited and Booted.
  17. I think football fans are still being treated like we are in the dark ages. Good article in today's Observer re the return to having safe standing areas. But the powers to be, luddites that they are, still mistakenly believe standing led to the Hillsborough disaster and refuse to even debate it when the majority of premiership clubs welcome the debate. If having a sip out of a flask is a crime worthy of having a ST confiscated then the world is truly bonkers. I hope those with authority at SMS use their common sense, mirrorcarp, a good fan who makes a small mistake over a ridiculous law should not be penalised or treated like a thug. Good Luck
  18. Bloody well put!
  19. thanks Colin - I think we are slowly coming to the end of the road apart from updates. There is talk of the Magnificent 80s and as recently as today David Bull has been approached by a publisher interested in that decade. I am not sure there is such an appetite for books any more. I took a bit of a hit on Suited and Booted last year - still a few thousand away from recuperating my outlay. I printed 3000 which was too many. Still its a book that doesn't age but Mrs Holley a little fed up of boxes everywhere. Thanks for all your orders so far had a good response.
  20. Our new book (576 pages and bigger than A4 size) is being published on the last weekend of November and we are hoping to have a launch on the evening of the 29th, venue to be confirmed. The book contains a profile and photo, sometimes two of over 1000 ex-Saints, going back to the first competitive fixture in 1887 and although we have published Who's Whos before this one is more than just an update as we have tracked down and spoken to most still alive and taped interviews with quite a few who have passed on. Terry Paine is writing the foreword. It really is the most in-depth comprehensive player profile book ever published although I say so myself It retails at £35 (our print bill alone is over £30000) but if anyone wants a copy for £30 upfront (and get your name and town in the back) and you can pick it up from my place in Otterbourne, Gary's in Eastleigh or the stadium on match days then please let us know within the next 4 weeks. This is the last book in the Hagiology pipeline and it really would make the perfect Xmas present. Those interested can e mail me at Duncan@duncanholley.co.uk or go to http://www.hagiologists.com and order directly. Cheques made payable to ALL the SAINTS can be sent to 1 Park Lane, Otterbourne Hants SO21 2HY Thanks to Steve Grant for giving me his permission to use this forum, the Saints web, it's a blatant plug I know but the more books we sell privately the less the loss/risk. And thanks to all those who have helped in whatever way over the last decade it has taken to get this far. Rgds Duncan Holley, Gary Chalk and David Bull
  21. Interesting read - is this the first signs that everything is not quite hunky dory at the fortress or a case of what the natives were told was not the quite the whole truth at the time?
