"ALL the SAINTS"................. published November 29th 2013
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
thanks Colin - I think we are slowly coming to the end of the road apart from updates. There is talk of the Magnificent 80s and as recently as today David Bull has been approached by a publisher interested in that decade. I am not sure there is such an appetite for books any more. I took a bit of a hit on Suited and Booted last year - still a few thousand away from recuperating my outlay. I printed 3000 which was too many. Still its a book that doesn't age but Mrs Holley a little fed up of boxes everywhere. Thanks for all your orders so far had a good response. -
Our new book (576 pages and bigger than A4 size) is being published on the last weekend of November and we are hoping to have a launch on the evening of the 29th, venue to be confirmed. The book contains a profile and photo, sometimes two of over 1000 ex-Saints, going back to the first competitive fixture in 1887 and although we have published Who's Whos before this one is more than just an update as we have tracked down and spoken to most still alive and taped interviews with quite a few who have passed on. Terry Paine is writing the foreword. It really is the most in-depth comprehensive player profile book ever published although I say so myself It retails at £35 (our print bill alone is over £30000) but if anyone wants a copy for £30 upfront (and get your name and town in the back) and you can pick it up from my place in Otterbourne, Gary's in Eastleigh or the stadium on match days then please let us know within the next 4 weeks. This is the last book in the Hagiology pipeline and it really would make the perfect Xmas present. Those interested can e mail me at Duncan@duncanholley.co.uk or go to http://www.hagiologists.com and order directly. Cheques made payable to ALL the SAINTS can be sent to 1 Park Lane, Otterbourne Hants SO21 2HY Thanks to Steve Grant for giving me his permission to use this forum, the Saints web, it's a blatant plug I know but the more books we sell privately the less the loss/risk. And thanks to all those who have helped in whatever way over the last decade it has taken to get this far. Rgds Duncan Holley, Gary Chalk and David Bull

Interesting read - is this the first signs that everything is not quite hunky dory at the fortress or a case of what the natives were told was not the quite the whole truth at the time?
-
Suggests he is further down MP's estimation books than ours? Underlying problem, carrying an injury? - I don't know, I would have just expected him to be nearer the starting 11 than he currently is. The fans rate him and see him as potentially being an alternative to Wanyama but for some reason he has been sidelined.
-
wow that took some putting together but feel you are glossing over some cracks the biggest of which is the poor first touch of both Rodriguez and Lallana - it cost us yesterday. Also I note Cork is not even on the bench these days, which is a bit of a concern.
-
I think at best both Lallana and J Rod are not top half of the table Premiership players. Both showed a poor touch in front of goal yesterday that cost us 2 points.

Not happy with the I this week after Sam Wallace's hatchet job on Lambert

Old Saints Picture - manager gives team-talk in 1949
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Nah that is Bill - he left SFC 15 July 1949 -
Loved this reply from one of their fans following on from the above Pompey monitor new tea lady. Pompey are casting an eye over a new trialist who could transform training at Fratton Park. Ex-Bognor burger van stalwart Christine Richardson showed her paces as she squeezed six cuppas from a single tea bag supplied by club sponsors. The 68-year-old also supplied bags of chips to Alan McLoughlin's youth side before they left for their unlucky 2-1 defeat at Brisbane Road. Richardson, who is a well known personality in Portsmouth shopping malls, has emerged as a consideration following the latest setback to usual tea maker Thelma Craddock. Craddock is currently sidelined by an injury problem having been electrocuted by a loose wire at Fratton Park.

Your favourite Saints players that weren't popular?
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
Fred Kemp from the 60s and Tony Funnell from the 70s were two players the fans loved but Ted Bates and Lawrie McMenemy did not. -
Mayuka Going To Sochaux on Loan (Confirmed)
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Saints
still means we have less pace than ever -
MP had admitted IN HINDSIGHT he should have left AL on so yes he made a mistake there but had Ramirez scored 2 there would be no moaning on here. What is worrying is since the last 6 games of last season and the first three of this we have regressed if anything. We are looking pedestrian and void of ideas. If we have no wingers then we do need marauding backs and without Clyne they don't exist. I would have liked to see Moses here but seems he is off to Merseyside. MP is a smart guy I am sure he is working on things.

Maybe he has already had his medical? I am not ITK at all but very good contacts at Solent Uni told me a player had a medical there the Thursday before Osvaldo signed and it was very hush hush. I am guessing but perhaps this transfer was potentially set up when Chelsea went for Willan? Could all be crap but throw in MP's comments that Saints would continue to monitor the market after Osvaldo signed means that perhaps their transfer dealings are not finished.
-
I really don't know - I am just putting 2+2 etc but I would not be surprised
-
Worth a punt this I reckon
-
That's a long way to go for an evening away match but it was good to see a comfortable win and 5 goals, 4 of which were nicely taken. Surprised no Do Prado - he may be injured and no sign of Hooiveld either. V disappointed in Mayuka, I have to say. Until his goal he just did not get into the game Isgrove only came to life in the 2nd H when he went wide left. Ramirez so much skill and composure but so frustrating. His free kicks last night were shocking. Oakwell was just how I imagined it, corrugated fences, red bricked walls and old fashioned corner steel floodlights that looked like they had been in situ since Michael Parkinson was a nipper.
-
I still think there will be one more in. Apparently a mystery player had a medical the Thursday before Osvaldo signed and it was very hush hush. Listening to Pochettino's comments last week about watching the market I think this transfer is dependant on another club buying someone before letting our target go
-
This big time - he needs to wise up very quickly - no room for petulance in the Prem.
-
Buttner is being loaned out I see
-
there is an element of sense in what he says to be fair
-
I think a lot of people are forgetting that we are privately owned now - the only people who should be (potentially) worrying in the Liebherr estate. There is no stock market or shareholders to answer to. We have become a mini Chelsea.

we still lack pace
