This and then this again - nutshell!

MoPo ****ed up end off. Why? - who knows but he made decisions that lead to our defeat inc picking Kelvin Davis, making Jesus to do the PR and sending on McQueen for Lallana, all of which proves he couldn't really give a fig. But who are we to complain - it's not allowed on here or so says Old Nick and young NickG and uncle Tom Cobley. Presumably they would have us all hung for heresy. I would love to be waking up early in the morning for the drive to Hull. I remain ****ed off. Sorry

But we were never going anywhere in the League so, to me, Boruc's gaffe is irrelevant, whereas I genuinely believed we had a half decent chance (draw permitting) of winning the Cup. Surely the leap of faith is more pertinent in the Cup than the League. We have hit our glass ceiling there, big time.

This - the season ended at the Stadium of Light. Apart from the "who might go to Brazil" speculation, there is not much to get excited about. Such a waste of a good opportunity!

David Bull has shared some memories on another list - "Herbie muses that Duncan and I might know more re the death of Bob Charles. Not so in my case. Duncan e-mailed me this a.m to say news of Bob's death (on Thu 6th, it said) was on Bill Beaney's Facebook. I didnt know Bob was ill. You may have spotted him, Herbie, at the launch of ALL the SAINTS. I spoke to him on his arrival, when he declined to be part of the player's front-of-house line-up and I never saw him again that evening. But if Bob was shy in public, he made up for it in private interviews. When I spoke to him for Ted Bates's biog, Bob gave me a graphic goal-by-goal a/c of the famous 5-1 Cup win at Man City - brilliantly conveying what it was like to be a nervous 18 year-old keeper on the big stage (42,000+ crowd) at Maine Road, unable to believe the goals flying past Bert Trautmann at the other end. One of the best match-reports I've ever heard. One reviewer of DELL DIAMOND - Duncan's dad, if memory serves - commented on the novelty of a goalkeeper reporting in this way. Such good stuff that I've recycled it in two subseq books and am likely to use much of it again in any Appreciation that I might get to write of Bob for the O/S and/or the programme".

Ex-Saints goalkeeper 1959-61, Bob Charles has sadly passed away. Bob played in goal when 3rd Division Saints famously beat 1st Division Man City in the FA Cup 5-1 in 1960, he was a larger than life character who made his debut between the sticks aged just 17 but a broken elbow curtailed a promising career. He played a total of 35 games for the club. He was in digs with Micky Channon and was a well known figure around Bedford Place in the 70s. He later had a car sales business in Portswood. Condolences to his wife Maureen and family.

Pulis Bigs Up Saints Academy (and Saints in general)
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Seany S's topic in The Saints
Nearly became our manager before Nigel Pearson. Held talks with Crouch despite being with Stoke City at the time. His father-in-law is ex-Saint Bill Stroud -
What's hilarious two of those players had great careers at The Dell and they can't even bring themselves to mention it.

Again wise words imo, you must have gone to a good school

Can't believe I agree with a Daily Fail columnist but I do.....wash your mouth my son!

Jay Rod? You're kidding right?
-
Well played that man, if you subtracted the empty away seats you could then half that.

How much will we spend and who will we lose?
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Goatboy's topic in The Saints
Trouble is we have hit our glass ceiling in terms of achievement, those players who want more will have to move to get what they want -
Well if he is a troll or a WUM then good riddance but sometimes those with the non conformists or non "toeing the party line" views get lumped into those categories. Sometimes on this forum it is regarded as heresy if you don't give 100% unwavering support to the current regime. I don't agree with him re MP, I think it would be madness to get rid of him but GS has got to be entitled to his views, although he does post far too much on the same subject, which is one reason he gets people's backs up I guess.
-
I am at a lost why someone who admittedly posts a lot of negative stuff should still be accused of trying to destabilise. He doesn't like MP for reasons I assume to be genuine (if not misplaced imo) so he is entitled to back that up without being accused of being a Pompey fan or trying to start a revolution. I don't agree with him Nick but there has got to be room on this forum for opposing views without shrieks of "you must be a skate" or in my case "you have an agenda". Just what are people afraid of? This is hardly 1916 Russia.
-
Pompey were the better side. The reason? The players all realised they were on show what with the cameras being there. They weren't playing for the best team in the world.... they were playing with an eye to being signed.

Should MP drop Lambert for the Palace game!
Fitzhugh Fella replied to SOTONS EAST SIDE's topic in The Saints
Give me Lambert over jayRod any day of the week. He has a football brain and is still a big presence. JayRod does not have much of either -
Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Ashley Grute's topic in The Saints
I want him to stay but as the games slip by I get the impression he is not happy. Can't put my finger on it just get the impression he is going through the motions. I hope I am wrong and I hope whoever is running the club gets their finger out pretty soon. -
Team playing so well under Mopo: MYTH
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Glasgow_Saint's topic in The Muppet Show
Whatever the stats say some of the football we have played since he came in has been the best for a quarter of a century. Just the end result is lacking. -
Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official
Fitzhugh Fella replied to Ashley Grute's topic in The Saints
Either way (and I hope he stays, better the devil you know and all that) it needs sorting quickly for when the market opens -
Sort of sums it up for me. Someone should tell MP to look up the word "clinical" in his dictionary.
-
I would still prefer Lambert any day over Jay Rod. At least Lambert has a brain.
-
Chambers over Clyne for me any day and it seems the manager agrees

Artur Boruc, New Years Day v Arsenal. Adkins had given him the impression he wasn't playing, so he had a "good" night only to be told he was playing when he arrived at SMS. Who can forget those first 15 minutes?
