  1. So I believe Davis is the current club captain but may be off this summer. If that’s the case who do we believe the club and team captains should be? Club Captain - usually an older player who has been here a while, options: - yoshida (seems the only option to me) Team captain - a few options here - Bertrand (would need him to commit to staying) - JWP (captained England under 21s) - Romelu (right part of the pitch, seems quite vocal)
  2. Bare in mind as well jetlag (at least for me) tends to be no matter how hard I try I cant sleep in planes, so cant force an adjustment even if I want to. You'd assume the club are in chartered planes, with first class as standard and thus good seats/pods with the ability to recline and therefore get a decent kip. These lot also wont be boozing during the flight which again impacts your ability for decent 'deep' sleep.
  3. Not a legend per se but could U be Uwe Rosler (I know completely contradicts the rules stated but clutching at straws).
  4. Is there a way I can update the OP with names suggested?
  5. Saw a link for a Man United kids book 'Alphabet Legends'. Basically an A-Z with a club legend associated to each letter. Thought it might be fun to try to do one for Saints (Surnames should be used) - annoyingly we have a lot of L's A B C D E F G H I J K L - (Matt) LeTissier M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z
  6. I would join one if there is!
  7. Good thread though and love some of the old players being mentioned. Assuming this thread means a team which would win the premiership today, in totdays rules and todays climate do we think some of the legends could actually do the job: - LeTiss - No doubt on individual quality but would he be given the time on the ball/would fittness be an issue? If you think of flaire players of todays game (Ronaldo/Bale) they are extremly fit - Jimmy Case/Killer - would the agression that made part of their game still be allowed or would they be constantly sent off?
  8. I know its been debated before but I cant believe we have only two 'legandary' players span nearly 30 years (90,s, 2000,s and 2010's). Surely there must be one other player/manager/staff who is worthy of a place. My suggestion would be Marcus.
  9. Couple of good options for the second criteria: - Ryan Frederiks (right back - Fulham) I'd be reluctant in most other positions for Championship to Premiership step up.
  10. I like (and we seem to have moved away from) the transfer strategy we have 2-3 years ago where a big part of our recruitment was: - Sign a player from a big club who has lost their way a bit and has a point to prove (Bertrand and Romeu) - Sign the best players from the division below (Clyne) I'm a bit worried we have gone the way of 75% of the division and are just looking at a foreign player with a fancy name......... For the former I would look at - Callum Chambers (right back - Arsenal) - Carl Jenkinson (right back - Arsenal) - Lucas Perez (forward - Arsenal) - Joel Campbell (forward - Arsenal) - Kurt Zouma (centre back - Chelsea) - Marco Van-Ginkle (attacking midfielder - Chelsea) - Kennedy (attacking midfielder - Chelsea) - Lucas Piazon (forward - Chelsea) - Loftus-Cheek (forward - Chelsea)
  11. The squad has demonstrated it has enough to do a job, and even push for top half. If we are to continue with a back 3 one new, experienced, commanding Centre back is needed with Stephens and Bed playing along side him. I’d like more but I can see Hugh’s getting more out of Redmand and Gabbi, and our midfield three in my opion are quality if managed correctly!
  12. If we wanted a target man should have just got Crouch until the end of the season.........
  13. Anyone seen hoj goal celebration, he kicks (I think Stephens) in the nuts! https://www.facebook.com/BBCMOTD/videos/10156641454685982/
  14. An app could give loads of extra features. Votes on Supporters Man of the Match, much easier ticket purchasing, easier user journeys for the SaintsShop etc.
  15. Yes, but neither (Bournemouth 'maybe' this season) are pushing the top 6, and are still regarding as plucky under-dogs making up the numbers. I get the impression that the fact we nearly broke the glass season, managed to bonce back a few times after a summer sale despite pundits predicting otherwise really irks then. It's almost as if they are now looking at us and thinking 'HA - we told you so!'
  16. So I am slightly basing this on us hitting a bit of confidence, and a little bit of 'these are the team we should be beating based on the last few years' Southampton v Liverpool LOSS Burnley v Southampton WIN Southampton v Stoke City WIN Newcastle United v Southampton WIN Swansea City v Southampton WIN West Ham United v Southampton WIN Arsenal v Southampton LOSS Southampton v Chelsea LOSS Leicester City v Southampton DRAW Southampton v AFC Bournemouth DRAW Everton v Southampton DRAW Southampton v Manchester City LOSS 18 points, with a very important three games after the Liverpool one. I can actually see a point coming from Chelsea at home but we will see! Lets get behind the team and make sure we can reset for a better premier league season in the summer!
  17. I think with the BBC meaning to be 'relatively' impartial some of his comments are a bit below the belt. I think the bit that really annoyed me was the relegation mention - this is the first year since we have been back up 'we have flirted' with relegation. You do get the impression sometimes that the established media want Saints to fail, and that we are an insult to them that a 'small seaside club' can actually do well!
  18. I don't know why we didn't go for the new Watford manager (Garcia). He was available last summer and fits very well into our appointments in a sense that he did very well (for three seasons) at Malaga with next to no budget.
  19. Didn't Van D scored from a corner last season - he's scored a few with his head?

    PEH

I suspect he is paternity leave, which as Government standard is 2 weeks. I suspect this is no different for footballers.
  21. I have a space in my FF team for a midfielder and wanted to put a Saints player in considering our next couple of games. No idea who is going to play though now!

    New Captain

I'd have Davis as club captain (which is normally one of the older players) and JWP as game day captain. He demonstrates to be a good professional, would be a good role model to the academy players, and I believe was captain for the U21's?
  23. I do, I actually meant stonking but autocorrect happened.
  24. This is no different to the Morgan situation two seasons ago. His head wasn't right so he missed most of pre season, we dug our heals in and he stayed, had a stinking season then got his move. This is also a routine to year so it will be in Virgils interest to play well. He owes us one more season!
  25. It's on the BBC, manager has said VVD is training alone as he wants to leave.
