  1. Wow 😮 I only played a few games that season due to a knee injury. I signed as one of my housemates was assistant manager Steve Dunford. Played on my debut and scored a hat trick and then played 3/4 afterward, but picked up and injury then moved to Guildford and played for Guildford at Woodbridge. Might have been 93/94 or 94/95 season at Bishopstoke, but like I say a very short spell on trial. I had a few games at Pirelli and then I went back to Southampton in 2001 for 5 years and worked for them. But have not played since my Guildford days 95/98
  2. Good god, good question. 93/94? Scored a hat trick on my debut.
  3. They will be shit, but younger and fitter for sure. 😆
  4. Yep, I would take him back, but cannot see it. Missed his goals last season for sure. Local lad, and supported Saints. Yes seems to get a little above his station and carried away, or more likely his agent does, but he is a class striker. Keeping him fit will be the issue. miles better than what we have, and has the goals that will get us up the table. He was class for us and coming home, with Bale and JWP supplying, he will be licking his lips. (Tongue in cheek for the Bale one, but just as likely as Ings returning).
  5. You know the problem with England? They all grew up!
  6. Not entertaining. NOT Functional. 3 years of getting good results well and truly over. now we are losing discipline!
  7. I bet they do not struggle against newly promoted team. I take it we are just talking Saints record against newly promoted because I bet if you look at it, they really normally do not do that well. If they do then they do alright for the whole season. we will play everyone twice over the season and hopefully scrape together 40 points somehow.
  8. Well the last 3 years have been fun. But I think we are on the decline again! We are so boring!
  9. Blackburn fan at work wants Armstrong back.
  10. That would be really poor marketing if not. 😂 look what you fans could be wearing!
  11. I understand the hype as kids love the new shirts. I know I used to love the waiting and the build up. I remember getting the iconic Pony top in the 90’s, when on a holiday on the Isle of Wight from a popular sports shop at the time. I think it was the only shop that sold the Saints top outside the club store at the time. perhaps they are delaying so supports forget the terrible end to the season we had. They seem to be waiting for something for the fans to get excited about.
  12. Probably do a job for us at CB
  13. I’ve heard that the release is being delayed so a big new signing can be part of the photo shoot. Who could this be? 🤔
  14. Saints holding on for the draw against Spurs.
  15. He’s the Shane Long, he’s the Shane Long, he’s the Shane LongAll day long, he’s the Shane Long!
  16. Away is England Euro 96 away colour! You know the one we wore in that game!
  17. Kicks off with England v Austria at 8pm on Wednesday 6th July at Old Trafford.
  18. So it all kicks off in the women’s euros on the 6th July. I feel this is a great opportunity to showcase the women’s game, as the men’s World Cup is not until November, so fans can focus on the women’s tournament, and May gain viewers and interest from football fans who would not normally tune in. It is already very well supported, but tickets are available for other games. I may try and get along to some, depending on dates and other commitments. So let’s champion the women’s game at international level and get them just that bit further and lift the trophy. Again, I know this is not for everyone, but if you want to promote anything then please do so in here. Oh it is in the Lounge as it is not Saints related (unless Rendell gets the call up), but if you want to move it then please do. https://www.uefa.com/womenseuro/
  19. Yep and me at Bishopstoke 😁
  20. Correct. I believe most of our team work, and now face the dilemma of choosing football as a career or working and playing at a lower level.
  21. See there is the problem. I don’t, I remember Speedie & Dixon 😂
  22. Steady now 😂
  23. Love these photos
  24. Will be interesting to see what changes this brings about though, as it is a major game changer. You will now have these women who were playing and had day jobs, whether this is student, part time worker, full time worker, low earner, high earner, mother, or shelf employed, and then all of a sudden this is your job. So there will be loads of factors that each one of them need to think about. What is their career, and can they earn more from football, which is a short career. Their age, where are they on their career ladder on and off the pitch. What is the potential on the pitch, was last season realistically their height. What are Southampton FC’s ambitions and aspirations. Do they see themselves in the WSL and challenging for Europe? The individual players potential, do they think they could already earn more at a higher level, are other clubs after them? We already have a keeper who could play in the top flight. So it really is a game changer and reflects the mens game, but on a much lower scale. It will be about your own worth on the pitch, and at this stage does this out way the career path? This will only be a problem for a short amount of time, because down the line players will know they are wanting to play professional football. So right from development they will be looking to make it to the top and top earners or ambitious clubs. They will know early on if they are making the grade, again reflecting the mens game. It will become the career choice and you study along side it, and if you don’t make it, you follow another career. But for the here and now it is going to be tough, because some will not make the grade and others will come in. I am sure some will cherish the moments from the season just gone and carry on with a career outside of football, but play at a lower level. We have another Southampton team just a couple of leagues lower. Again like the mens game. You can have a career outside of football and still enjoy playing at an amateur level. It has been a truly amazing 12 months since we entered the league, and got promoted at the first time of asking, with a wonderful group of women. The future is very bright, but it also get serious. I for one cannot wait for the next season.
