  1. You can't shift them if no one wants them and they don't want to go ...
  2. Nice to see he got the watch!
  3. Don't be silly! Pompey have hardly enough for a first team let alone reserves ...
  4. Well if this quote posted earlier is anything to go by don't waste your money, bet on promotion instead: "8:50 AM on 21/06/2013 More cracking news from Fratton Park!!! Who the hell do we pick for a starting XI!?! Nice having depth to choose from. This is so much more pleasant that Appletons quad he built from scratch, as GW's looks so much more balanced." They know more about this down the road than I do but the new recruits certainly have the locals excitied and they are expecting an exceptional season - and you are thinking about betting on relegation? OK, so none of the guys they have (outside their ex-Saint of course) has played much league football but they form a well balanced team packed with potential. Choosing a starting eleven is going to be difficult apparently. I have to agree that when suspensions and injuries kick in later in the season choosing a starting eleven may well indeed prove difficult.
  5. The Valley, Charlton ...?
  6. No, the business plan is flexible enough to be reworked to suit any situation.
  7. I remember a game against Chelsea, long before crowd segregation where I spent more time on the ground than stood up in the Milton end. I think it was the time the police searched the Chelsea fans and found all kinds of weapons they were taking in. I was certainly glad to get out alive! Must have been shortly after that the 'away' end was brought in. Life in the Milton was never dull!
  8. This was very true. There was a guy on the turnstiles at the Milton Road entrance to the east stand who used his knee to stop the turnstile making a full turn and so stopping it clicking another person in. He would always give you a smile and a cheery word to try and take your mind off what he was doing. He must have made a fortune as well as risking countless lives as under the east would have far more in there than the count told. I don't know how many were on this fiddle but he was probably not alone. My dad told me to force the thing round to make sure the club got the money and not him. I think it used to hurt his knee if you pushed the turnstyle really hard!
  9. Sorry! Prefer to keep my head down these days; too many snipers about here on the forum always ready to try and shoot you down.
  10. Black is black, we want Ron Davies back Grey is grey, since he went away. Thanks for the memories Ron. RIP.
  11. OK, I'll have a go! By my reckonning we currently have 38 professionals on the books? Three (Chambers, Stephens and Gazzaniga) are 'futures' and it has been said (I can't remember by whom) that 15 will go so that leaves a nett 20 left who are good enough as they formed the basis of our team this year that survived in the Prem. We will need a minimum squad of 25, especially as the demands of our game are physically high and we will need to rest and rotate so that means 5 in. To be good enough to improve the squad we will have to pay an average of £10m? So my guess is c£50m and yes, I am sure we can afford it, even if we have to factor the TV money by getting an advance from the BVI! If 15 go out and 5 come in and the new ones are on, say 4 times as much as thiose going out, the nett increase in the wage bill is also affordable. I believe those thinking Fox, Hooiveld, Guly, etc will be going will be disappointed as they will form an essential part of the squad for next season. As for which positions will the new 5 fill? I have no idea, I'll let the transfer committee decide on that!
  12. And you said: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?44898-Naivety-clapping-and-reality!
  13. "His current deal was due to expire this summer, but the English-born Aussie youth defender opted to move on." I thought Allen said they had released him? Truth is, he walked away ....
  14. This ... if we left out everyone that has been slated on here by so called Saints fans we would have no team to put out!
  15. "I don’t know who’s this ‘source’ you all copy from" Must be lots of SWF followers in Zambia I guess?
  16. Oh, sorry! I must be wrong then.
  17. The new financial fair play rules are going to have a significant impact on all this. I do not know the details but wages are going to be capped as a percentage of turnover therefore you cannot afford to 'waste' a portion on players who are just not going to play, even when injuries and suspensions kick in, if they are not going to even make the bench then they have to go. Depending on the dates all these new conditions take effect it could be better to pay up a contract now and release a player so that they do not take up that limited wage capacity once the new regs start. After all, if they are going to stay they have to be paid the same amount of money even if they never play so what have you lost? It is quite possible that a player with even two or three years left on their contract could be paid up now if they have no future just to take them out of the calculations in the future. A lot of those who will go are obvious as contracts will be running out for players no longer needed. We have then established a firm financial forecast by signing up those players who are integral to the squad for the next three years or so. Then we have added in the most promising of our youngsters and know what they will cost and that leaves us with a clear figure of how much we have left to spend on wages to stay withjin the rules. Thank goodness we have good financial and football brains working on this and not just basing it on a few supporters opinions as might happen in a 'supporter owned' club (dig! dig!). Be prepared for some surprises and I guess much of our speculation will be wrong (as usual).
  18. Looks like you've gone awol!
  19. "Like" - lots and lots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Some of you are like a pack of hounds, one scent of the Fox and you will persue him until he is no more!
  21. I see what you did there!!!!! How many wrong in a row is it now?
  22. Oh sorry! I thought this was the Saints supporters forum ... I will look elsewhere.
  23. "Portpin is asking any group wishing to purchase the club to hand over around £9m for the ground. But the PST says it is worth far less and has offered £3m for it." Now let's see ... Portpin want £9m, there is an offer for £3m, so let's split the difference to get a reasonable price; that would be c£6m then? Well, that's good, there is someone willing to pay that. Problem solved (or is it?).
  24. Brilliant!!!! S0d off Sanchez .........
  25. Did we win?
