MLT has already made the team as part of the central midfield pairing with Alan Ball. He can't be best left sided midfield as well. I know he was brilliant but we can't have him play in greatest team in every position. Pahars is there because people nominated him!

I was eleven when my dad took me to the Dell for the first time in 1959. It was only Div 3 againt Norwich but it was magic and I was hooked. There was no live TV in those days and so the only football I saw outside of the school playground and on Hythe Recreation ground was Saints. Fifty years later I am still red and white despite everything and despite we may well be back where we started 50 years ago. For kids now it is so different. It is so easy 'to support' anyone they choose (Manure, Cheskie, the arse, et al) but, like everything else now, it is not real. There is no commitment, no passion, no feeling in the guts. If 'their team' has a dodgy run then they will change to someone else. TV means there is only time for winners these days. I am encouraged though. Recently I was on the train back home from Soton and there was a lad on the train with his dad and they both had Weymouth shirts on, they support the Terriors and wanted you to know it. Then, on Radio Solent, John Cuthill asked a lad on the phone who his favourite football team was and he said without hesitation "Saints Reserves". "Why?" asked an astonished Cuthill and the lad said "The only time I get with my dad is when he takes me to see Saints Reserves." I guess dad could not afford to take his nipper to see the first team and obvioulsy from a broken home. I had a tear in my eye when I heard that. Fans of the future? There will be some of course but how many will depend on where we are in the pyramid.

Good one, I had forgotten John Hoskins as I was very young when I saw him play. It was D3S days so the opposition was not as tough as David Armstrong and Nick Holmes had to contend with.
-
Cliff Huxford? He was a solid defender and traditional No 6 from the 2-3-5 formation. No it has to be David Armstrong for me.

Sorry, I think you are dreaming. Administration is uncharted territory and no one can know how things will work out. If LC wants to take control then he needs to do it before administration otherwise things will happen with creditors (especially the stadium mortgage) taking control of our fate. And by the way, did Leeds walk League 1 and come strait back up? Ask the fans of Maidstone and Scarborough about the joys of administration, and Bournemouth, Rotherham and Luton. Ask the fans of Aldershot and Accrington just how easy it is to bounce back from nothing because it has all gone. We may not have much (other than debt and a divided club) but it is better than losing everything by going in to administration. Its not just being docked 10 points.

Are you sure A Defender will be at right back and A Defender will be at left back? I think the back four will be: A Midfielder A Defender A Defender-Midfielder A Midfielder

Saints Greatest XI - Second Best Right-Midfielder Poll
Panda replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Oh, so do I. We must make sure he gets in to the central midfield vote at least even if he doesn't make the greatest (which he should!) he must be in the second team. -
Saints Greatest XI - Second Best Right-Midfielder Poll
Panda replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
First, look at the thread title = "Saints Greatest XI - SECOND best Right Midfielder role. Then read St Landrews opening post, then think about it! There is a GREATEST team and a sort of second best team. In a team a player can only play in one postition and can't be in two teams at once. Therefore, if we vote for MLT as the second best Right Midfielder then he won't then be able to be one of the best central midfielders will he? Simple really. Sorry, too, Matt may have lined up on the right but he was never a right winger. At his best he was in central midfield behind the strikers. He was not, to my mind any way, at his best as a right winger. -
Saints Greatest XI - Second Best Right-Midfielder Poll

But this vote is for the SECOND BEST team. Terry Paine is in the BEST team, we are voting for SECOND BEST. MLT will surely be in the BEST team in one of the central midflield roles so he is not being left out of anything other than the SECOND BEST team. -
Saints Greatest XI - Second Best Right-Midfielder Poll

I am not sure you have got the hang of this have you? You appear to be upset that we are not voting for Matt to be our second best right winger? MLT was not 'second best' anything, he was the best and, correct me if I am wrong, but did he ever play right wing? MLT will be in the greatest team but in his correct position. -
What a pitiful post.

I have to go for Tony Knapp and Jimmy Gabriel - Tony was a great reader of the game, a strong tackler and great header of the baal as well as a real leader. Jimmy, well one of the best all round defenders I have ever seen and a quality footballer in every respect. Both served us well for many years/games and rarely missed through injury despite being tough players. (I would really like to have included Mel Blyth who transformed our defence when he arrived from Palace but I will have to put him as third choice).*

Will Saints be reducing store prices with the VAT cut as of Monday?
Panda replied to Big_Bald_Si's topic in The Saints
I can't help thinking you are just trying to have a dig at the people at the top at St Mary's and perpetuating this 'they are blood suckers' image. -
You do have a very small mind! Micky Channon? My all time number one. I count myself very blessed to have 'shared' Mick's career (him on the pitch - me on the terraces!). Memories and affection I will take to the grave. Along with Ron Davies and Terry Paine, Micky will always have a very special place in my heart (blue filth shirt or not! - actually that quote makes me angry!). Happy birthday Mick, have many more. P. PS: I hope you are making a full recovery from your recent trauma

But who is it that unlike Rupert believes in equity, fairness and wants people to invest in the club and team. Who is it? There is no one. You want someone to 'invest in the team' but resent anyone getting a return on their money. If they take a share of the profit as a return then they are greedy b45t4rds sucking the club dry. WHY would anyone invest huge sums of money for any purpose than to make more money? Really, what you want is for someone just to hand over several million just to make YOU feel better about the team you 'support'. What are you going to do put in? Absolutely nothing, not even your gate money ... enough said!

Baird is over 20 - he is too old for us.

You can't settle for anything - they have another 45 to play and we are going to have to bear that!!!

Not according to OS - Roberston up front, Lallana and BWP wide and McG 'in the hole'.

Tommy Traynor?

Brings a tear to the eye! All the best Ron.
