To be fair - Ralph would have his players working harder off the ball than any manager since Poch. It is entirely possible for Boufal to work just as hard as anyone else under Puel, Pell, Hughes (I.e. the lazy tag is just made up, I wonder why..?) and for him to not work hard enough to start in a Ralph side. I imagine that the Pellegrino Redmond wouldn’t start for Ralph either for example.

Look at it the other way, none of these sides have 2 CBs you wouldn’t swap Yoshi? Keane and Mina? Sakho and Tomkins? Lascelles and Schar?

Chelsea demanded a £9m loan fee for Zouma, when he went to stoke. Not sure what Everton paid. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them ask something similar for Tomori. Plenty of premier league clubs will be interested. No chance at that kind of fee IMO

If another club (say Levy’s spurs) offered a low initial bid - it would be smart negotiating. But when we [allegedly] do it’s “a joke” / “another indication of how far we have fallen” / #GAOOUT. We have opened negotiations, we presume discussions are still ongoing. Let’s just wait and see what happens. He’s a young player who has had 1 good season at a level below the premier league. We will have a value in mind and shouldn’t go above it. That value will be higher than £8m. You don’t open with the highest you can go.

Do you really think Fulham will offer £15m for Targett though? That is a remarkable amount of money for championship side [even one with parachutes] to spend on a fullback. They’ll offer us circa £5m with a promo clause.

No from me. Can’t stay fit and that’s not going to improve with age. Big wages too. Liverpool have done us, getting us to pay good money and lessen their wage bill once for an injury prone player in Ings. Club would be a laughing stock if we fell for it twice.

Agree in principle. But what if we use our limited funds to sign him at the expense of a more experienced, battle hardened CB and he makes a load of errors / is physically outmuscled and we get relegated as a result. Would that be the right thing to do? He literally can’t get into a mid table championship side’s defence. Not sure we have the money to buy players who aren’t capable of being immediately stepping into the first team and making us better. For clarity, think he has played like 5 games as CB in his entire career

My mate who has Bristol ST raves about him, very good on the ball etc. This is he wasn’t even getting in their team towards the end of the season, as he ‘wasn’t ready for championship’. Which makes me think the £15m they want would be insane. He might well be brilliant in a few years and £15m might look a bargain, but I don’t think we’re in a position to take that risk with so many other positions more of a priority this summer

Suspect he’ll be here next year as we won’t get a decent offer nor [i hope] offer him a new contract. I also doubt any clubs interested would offer him the wage he’s on here. Possible he’d take, say, a three year deal on reduced wages elsewhere [champo], but he may as well stay for a year on prem money and take 2 years on less later. Perfectly happy to have him next season as squad player, just don’t want to ever see him start up front on his own at home in must win games again.
