  1. Surprised this has not come up but then not that many were there: Norwich away, April 94. Saints were dead and buried that season, had already lost 19 games by January when Bally took over. We went into the Easter weekend losing a "must win" game at home. I went to Norwich convinced that we were down. Le Tiss scored a hat-trick. Terrible defending from both teams. We were 3-1 down, got back to 3-3 and they immediately went up the other end to go 4-3 up. But Ken Monkou scored from a corner, in front of our fans, in injury time to win it 5-4. The only time in the whole match we were in front. Our crowd celebrated like we were possessed. I remember how one of our players grabbed the ball and threw into our crowd to waste a few more seconds just to make sure. Mad mad mad day but never to be forgotten. Went on to stay up, of course!
  2. Quality watching the pens, cheers
  3. Makes sense. Playing Connolly (and Jaidi) three games in a week would not have been a smart move
  4. thanks for these - appreciated
  5. Ditto. I remember Hoddle, among other England managers, saying that England could really not practice penalties as it is not possible to recreate the pressure / atmosphere of a major tournament. Utter cr*p. If you have some players who, in a training situation, are not able to belt it into the top or bottom corner time and time and time again, then they need to be taught how to do this (by MLT). If they still fail, then dont ever choose them. Granted in tournaments, the pressure is much greater, but MLT can teach people to shut that out and just do what they have done hundreds of times in practice. Other nations do it!
  6. told you so, told you so, told you so phew
  7. Swindon get in!
  8. I know its tough but this is not the past 5 (10, 15) seasons. We will not throw this away
  9. Reading next year
  10. Yep its still there
  11. Different competiton, different venue, but another win and frankly its great to be a Saints fan. Very strange atmosphere (can't remember sitting down at an away match when 3-0 up ever!) but we did the job and we are in the hat. Lallana was outstanding.
  12. Easy enough to take decking off. Not so easy for my SFC number plate. If the train was easier....
  13. when he came back from his (Rupes-enforced) loan to Denmark last season, in January, he was on fire
  14. No idea. I dont know what he had to contend with (no one does, unless they were involved) and I dont know who else was up for the award. I dont know how anyone on here can really judge this, but that does not stop most! To me, he helped save the club, even if only a little bit, so for that I say cheers
  15. In what other industry does the chairman of the industry body not do everything in his power to protect his members, and instead takes pleasure in making them suffer? I was at Wembley with the Luton fans last season. The stadium guys even tried to drown out the 30,000 boos by turning up the music. Pathetic for a pathetic man
  16. Not the same magnitude of course but Reading away in the CCC, when we pulled off an amazing 2-1 win in front of 4000 travelling fans, Rudi blocked a shot on the line in the last few mins. I wish we still had him
  17. I am in the industry. Like most industries, there are professional, decent firms that would never do this. Not just because it might not be moral, or unprofessional, or hassle. It could easily backfire and wreck a proposed sale, or at least reduce the price paid, leaving you open to action by disgruntled creditors. The longer term PR damage would be much more costly than whatever fee you might make on that one job. I suggest that most firms would not do it, but there could be some limited exceptions.
  18. Ditto. Got mine to vote against RL and support that nice man Mr Wilde
  19. This certainly means that nothing at all is being paid to any shareholder. There is no way any individual can "negotiate" a better outcome - it is governed by legislation that says all shareholders have to be treated equally. As I have mentioned, all of the receipts and payments in the Administration have to be disclosed to Companies House in due course, so it is a matter of public record
  20. Almost 3 stands would be more than good - this would be fantastic support. Hats off to all of you going
  21. Standard practice in these situations: you need to fund ongoing costs in order to complete a sale, you have very few options, and this is one of them
  22. Mark (the intended subject of this thread at least)
  23. how many left footers?
  24. I did not say that Barclays put us into Administration. (You are right about the court bit). But as a major work provider to the insolvency industry, doing a decent job in their eyes would have been a wise career move by Fry
  25. Spot on. Most of the bigger firms do not take on football clubs because (1) they do not tend to have many assets (apart from players) and have very weird income and expenditure patterns - e.g. close season - and this all limits the options severly; and (2) the potential for "grief" is huge. Fry will be judged by the creditors. So if he had made a mess of it, or took too long, or charged too much, or all three of these, then Barclays, Aviva and whoever else would be unlikely to use him again, which is ultimately the most important success measure for him.
