  1. scary
  2. Humble request for my benefit as I did not make the game on Saturday. I have read the reviews and reaction which all rave about Guly. Sounds like he has the potential to be a real favourite. From what I have read, he sounds like he may have just a little bit of Berkovic, Fernandes or even Ekelund about him (at a lesser level clearly) but I may well be jumping to optimistic conclusions based on the glowing reports. Which past Saint does he remind you of please? Thanks
  3. We will sell him if he is determined not to sign (I dont think either of these will happen FWIW). NC may be many things, but he is no fool when it comes to the value of players contracts
  4. Er, thanks, yes I am well aware of how it works. In case you did not get my original post, IMHO an extension will be signed (for the reasons you have helpfully spelt out)
  5. I am not worried. No way that NC will let his contract expire. He may be tempted to move on if we are nowhere this season, but we will get big bucks. Personally I think he will be with us next year
  6. Sorry but if we pick up points from the next seven games we will be in the top 6 whoever we play, surely?
  7. so they DID touch the ball then? cheers, I was not there
  8. Being young and naive I once fired him a pleading letter not to sell MLT (when it seemed he might - but of course this was newspaper cr*p which I should have ignored). He did not just reply, he found my home phone number and called me to discuss the letter and his feelings about the current team etc. OK so he did not give away any great secrets but he was pleasant, reasonable, not patronising and put my mind at rest. Not sure any other Premiership chairman would even think to do that personally, FWIW
  9. Nearly. They have to repay the current debt in full by 15 October, or else it rolls forward but triggers an immediate penalty payment of an additional £60m. The bank have agreed the current offer so this will clear them out (or at least they will accept it as full payment) so avoiding the £60m - which Liverpool do not have. Not paying the penalty or the current debt would allow RBS to appoint an Administrator even if the Board did not invite them to. The two yanks are not happy because they will lose some of their money. Oh diddums. Thats what happens when you run a business really badly
  10. WTF. my season ticket is now on its way back to St Marys, in two pieces * * this is a lie. I have not got one
  11. Unlike us, Liverpool is not inherently bust. This is a threat, a negotiating tactic, a weapon if you like, to force Gillette and Hicks to take the deal that is on offer. There is a £60m payment due to RBS on 15 October, if they are not repaid by then. Liverpool do not have this £60m but the current offer will clear out RBS. Gillette and Hicks WILL lose money if either this deal goes through or Admin happens, because the Administrator will sell to the same buyer anyway. Personally, I very much doubt Admin will happen, but you never know!
  12. Thats exactly what happened as far as I am concerned. I was there and plenty of people booed near me who were neither ****ed, or yoof, or whatever. Quite intentional, slightly pantomime but not tongue in cheek as such - i.e. still done with some feeling as they felt they were supporting Pardew. I am sure it was instinctive and not planned FWIW. Time to move on though.
  13. if we get to 27k, then I realise thats partly down to 3.2k from Bmuff, but great effort from our lot given the results this season and a chance for the Bmuff lot, and Mr Mitchell, to see what great support looks like...
  14. this
  15. I know this thread started about the Northam but seeing as its progressed to supporter noise levels in general I will mention this. Last season I went to about 10 away games, when I usually only do 4 or 5. I admit I got swept up in the general feel good factor, the novelty of seeing us win often, and the other novelty of seeing some new grounds. Clearly I was not alone in this, as demonstrated by our travelling attendance numbers. However, unlike every other season I can remember, the level of noise we generated was often pretty patchy. At MKD in the JPT nearly 3000 trekked there mid week, for a 7pm Kick Off, which was on TV. Very commendable, except the majority stood there the whole game and failed to join in any singing. Ditto Northampton in the FA Cup, Swindon early season (though we were total pants of course) and Brentford was pretty mixed. While the noise at Hartlepool and Bristol City was fantastic, and some others were pretty good, it used to be excellent at every away match. Is this further evidence that the TYPE of support we get now is changing, and is different to a few years back - and its not restricted to just those in the Northam?
  16. +1 I understand the point that Essruu is very exercised about, but for football fans, £5 for a year is 1.5 beers at St Marys (assuming you got in for free)
  17. Sounds great, would love to have a few of them. I think NC can find them at Premiership clubs
  18. I would love to say that where I live (1.5 hours from beautiful downtown Southampton) the pubs are full of Saints fans, who would like nothing more than to chat through the issues of the day with me over a few pints. Sadly I have more chance of winning the lottery than finding a single other Saints fan in my local
  19. I wasnt saying any old crap to score points thanks. I was recounting an experience from the early 90s, which resonated with others who were actually there. And for tartanowl, I apologise if things are much better these days. But I dont agree with your dismissal of the city centre (anything to do with Utd being walking distance?) I have had a couple of very good nights out in the centre in the last couple of years
  20. I agree, the City centre is much improved and there are some decent pubs and restraurants. Saw us win at Sheff Utd in the championship. I was referring to Hilsborough and surrounding area - would be amazed if that has changed much
  21. Agree he should be given a go. Two simple reasons. Punch is not at the races currently (but may come back). Holmes made an instant impact so worthy of a start. And HE CAN TAKE A CORNER!!!! (ok thats three but FFS no one else in our "bookies favourite for the title" team can take a corner) Thank you
  22. Not planning to go again for a long time. Last visit was in early 90's on Easter Monday. Went on the Coach (idiot). Left crack of dawn. It was six days before the League Cup final and Weds rested Waddle, Woods and a host of others. Wow, we have got a decent chance we thought. We lost 5-2. Got a ton of abuse from teenage scumbags. Took hours to get back. Sh*thole of a place and I hate it I think it left a mark.
  23. On form this season he is second best for me after AL
  24. That might be harsh - depends how much of a free hand he had under AP or whether he could only do as he was directed
  25. Fair points but they were v poor last time at Brighton. We are playing way below par, I am not sure that they are. COYR
