  1. fair point but im more of the opinion that if you have one stand out cb he can carry the whole defensive line. vvd for a while was that for us for me i rather we look around for a 20m caibre cb - whether we find a bargain for 15m or pay over the odds. i feel we need a real leader who can come in and partner bednarek or salisu. i havent seen much of this lad from liverpool, but i cant imagine he is much of an upgrade from vest or any of our current defenders
  2. as a pair their best attributes are winning the ball back. on the ball i dont particularly rate either. both sideways and safe kind of players, very good at doing the little triangles with the CBs which are clearly worked on at every training session. jwp clearly thew better of the 2 but still too slow, receives the ball too often facing his own goal and his awareness isn't what it needs to be to be a jorginho type
  3. i think whoever we replace him with will need to have a decent pass on him. not saying he needs to have a diagonal like vest but it should not be underestimated how much we relied on vest's passing in our build up last season. people will only rmb the long ball to kwp but it was more than that - he was incredibly good at finding the feet of our forward players with one bullet pass and bypassing our midfield. without this i fear for our overall build up game. our midfield cant be relied on for this, bednarek's passing is as good as mine, stephens shouldnt be starting, basically if we cant get a numbers up situation down either flank and progress the ball up that way we often resort to going back to mcarthy who will send it long (and often into touch lol) i wont miss his calamitous lapses of concentration though - the fuck up away to cardiff springs to mind
  4. Should be easy enough then! Get it done saints!
  5. Nah he just mentioned he's a central mid
  6. dan sheldon has recently written about how ralph is an admirer of ryan finnigan. we might see him at some point this season in the role jankewitz filled last season https://theathletic.com/2758767/2021/08/09/the-premier-league-2021-22-breakthrough-stars/
  7. great little loan. looks like he is hungry and a bit of a fighter and can play wide or up front can't help but wonder where this leaves long. makes the decision to give him a contract a while back absolutely bonkers
  8. it would also leave us with a team nobody decent would want to join
  9. are we expecting valery to stay this season? just asumed the chelsea lad would be 2nd choice hope we pick our level up considerably next week...we look so shit with the ball
  10. armstrong tends to give away chances from over doing it in the middle of the park. better get them all out now rather than next week
  11. what you are saying isn't wrong. but this is centre forward we are talking about. strikers come at a premium and are the best paid position for a very good reason. i do not think it is financially beyond the club to spend 20m+ on a striker, it shouldn't be. 25m for ings plus the big contracts we have gotten rid of, on paper thats just another 5-10m to find in order to fund a 20-30m striker. i know it isn't saints to do this, but we need to sooner than later if we are to stand any chance of keeping up with the teams we want to be keeping up with
  12. because the championship isn't the premiership. scoring a load of goals in the championship doesn't mean it will translate to the premiership. adams is the perfect example of that. why am i not entitled to think that it would be a big risk for the club to do so? it is my opinion that replacing ings inadequately could cost the club in the long run. still waiting to see how the club will react. meanwhile if you are satisfied with us replacing with armstrong or any other championship player then fair enough thats your view, im not sold though
  13. replacing him with a championship striker would be hugely underwhelming and flirting with relegation
  14. glad that he has gone, he would have just coasted through the season like he has the last 6 months. towards the end of last season we looked much better with tella on the pitch and ings on the bench obviously disappointed with it being villa also not as happy as others with the fee. if we are being quoted 15m for armstrong then we surely should be getting 30m+ for ings. very interested to see who the club will get to replace him. with this money does it put us in with a shout with abraham?
  15. as much as i dislike redmond's game and lack of any serious progress he has made with us as a player, i haven't yet been entirely convinced by djenepo that I would play him over redmond. with redmond we get a consistent 6 every game, with djenepo it can either be a 3 or a 9. consistency is his biggest weakness imo
  16. His wages will have been astronomical. Its Qatar
  17. that was the one I would have ideally wanted as well. shame the numbers being mentioned have us nowhere near
  18. if we could group all the scandinavians they would take out the field easy
  19. whenever another club makes a signing, post how the club have missed out and have no idea what they are doing. especially when they are 30m+ or its villa/ brighton
  20. While I have always said the board need to grow a backbone and hold out for bigger offers, would actually not mind if we get ings off the books and end all this. not worth all the fuss and this talk of "not ideal situation" for the next 12 months, especially if it means we can't move on with getting our targets early.
  21. don't mind the idea so much if it meant we get to see a goal like that one again. when was the last time somebody absolutely spanked it in like that? hojberg brighton?
  22. have to agree with you. hate him or not, les reed was good at selling at the right time and usually at the right price. post les our negotiating has been appalling. granted the position players have left us with were not great, but look at leicester and the prices they have fetched recently.
  23. more likely the other way round
  24. why are we even talking about alderweirald. doesnt mateer if he would become out best defender, there is zero chance of us signing him full stop.
  25. they have been for a number of seasons now, while we have gotten almost everything entirely wrong
