  1. Well they didn't for us in 2007 and they don't in the Champions League any more. So no. (Quite right too, of course. There's no way an away goal by an English League team at another English League ground is worth double anything).
  2. There was a manager called Martin About his teams would be farting We play sideways and back Concede after every attack But in the play offs we're now starting
  3. We finished 12 points above them and we've beaten them twice. We have more than "a chance", we are deserved favourites. We just have to actually do the business.
  4. Always a stupid way of looking at it. 88 is not enough in those seasons because there's a team there on 90 points, 93, 89, 92 whatever. 88 means third in all those seasons. What is the rationale to conveniently remove the team in second and replace them with a team on fewer points? Remove the team in third with a team on 88 points and what do you know, still third. Because another team is on 90 points. A team needs to get what the team in the position you are aiming for gets, not aim for a smidge more than the team one place below got.
  5. In many ways, they didn't win today.
  6. So at season end, only two teams achieved two points per game and those two are the two that are automatically promoted. Two points a game. Simple.
  7. I think we only need four more to be absolutely sure of a point.
  8. I think sensible to play basically our strongest 11. We need to play into some form ahead of the play offs. Madness to just not play people thinking they might get injured. They need to be match fit, not just in storage. Next game over a week away anyway. Would be lovely to see Stewart on the pitch.

I think both things can be true, and it was with Ralph - absolutely committed to the club and its growth, but he would speak to (say) Man United if the opportunity ever arose.

Here's a little clue: no manager in their official club website welcome interview is going to talk about how this job is a stepping stone to a bigger club.
  12. Ipswich have got themselves a final game that is pretty much identical to ours vs Coventry all those years ago. If I remember we needed a point to be sure and we played at home the second bottom team who were already down. We know the rest. Honestly Ipswich will smash them, Huddersfield will not stand in the way, with Leeds failing giving Huddersfield fans something to sing about anyway.
  13. Was immense. At that moment we were absolutely going to Wembley and absolutely going up.
  14. At least Ipswich scoring after 20 minutes will give Saints fans something to sing about on the day.
  15. "Russell Martin's strategy was just far too high energy for me" complains "exhausted" Sekou Mara.

"You're like a broken record" is a common phrase that has been in regular use for fifty plus years, with a widely accepted meaning of "someone that repeats the same thing over and over again". HTH.
  19. Passed backwards and forwards depending on who won last, you'd think. The actually real Brian Clough Trophy is like that between Forest and Derby. True story.
  20. There are other goalkeepers in the world than someone playing in the Turkish second tier.
  21. Mainly what it was was the usual forum routine of forum intelligentsia giving it "there no other candidate better than Russell Martin" and sneering at any other suggestion. Whereas if we'd recruited someone else that manager would become the "there is no other candidate" person and the exact same people would be sneering at anyone suggesting Russell Martin instead.
  22. What "summer" was this then? The club approached Martin and Swansea etc in mid May, a couple of weeks before the season ended, Selles still in role. You seem to be making up a phase with lots of speculation and names flying about but sorry, that didn't happen. It was Martin before the relegation season had even finished at the end of May.
  23. It might not feel like it right now but we are perfectly capable of going to Carrow Road or The Hawthorns and winning 2-1. At that point the whole season flips again and we all get to believe. Look, this is me being optimistic.
  24. Why are you pretending that you are the only person that understands that Wilcox appointed Martin to get us promoted? Er, well, yeah. Of course he did. Of course he believed it. Thanks for the guidance.
  25. I'm not sure that "football club hires manager that they think will do well for them" is quite the killer insight you think it is. The point is Nigel Adkins had a track record of delivering exactly the success that was required, while Russell Martin achieved fuck all anywhere at all.
