To be fair I thought he could've done better on first one but to seeing back from proper angle they were just two outstanding strikes. Agree he seems hesitant but I don't think he needs blaming again. Was a woeful performance from the front 6 players especially. We are ripe for being bullied against the bigger, more athletic teams. I fear for the Man U game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Spot on. We've stood still, in fact no, gone backwards in last two years and others have pushed on. Pelle is a huge miss and is a proper target man who brought players in to play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Underestimate these Championship sides at your peril. They have been in good form to be fair. Lesson for the manager hopefully. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I actually thought Tadic was our most threatening player and a big improvement on where he was last season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Les Reed...mistakes made in VVD situation...and moving on
Rory Peepa replied to patred44's topic in The Saints
What a load of tosh! Do you really think that a man who's paid to do that role doesn't know all that. Les is clearly restrained from above and gets littke say in transfer policy. I think originally VVD was going to be happy to give us one more season but then he got injured, the team's form stayed pretty indifferent while he was out and with the WC coming up that has made his mind up. Forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't recall ever hearing what exactly that ankle injury was? Maybe that has spooked him. Regardless it is time for him to go now. Let's say we got 50M - I'd be delighted if that money was properly invested in the team on say a CB and a no10 but we all know it won't be. I still think we have gone backwards while everyone else pretty much has stepped up. It's so competitive now that fine margins are the difference between 8 th and being in a dogfight. The whole saga has gone beyond silly now. If we do end up letting him go then is there enough time to spend the dough wisely. I do think that this season will be the toughest since we went back up - we were very predictable last year and it seems like most teams will have moved forward. We simply have gone backwards from 18 mo the ago. The sad truth is that he is way too good for us at the moment. Only CL football will do but I'm just annoyed he want to go to Liverpool. Their behaviour is appalling and I too cannot stand their 'fans' on talksport etc or the media with their pro-Scouse bias. VVD is too good for Liverpool and should be setting his sights on one of the continental giants. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If Fonte and VVD played we win that. Good effort, were the better side but they had another gear perhaps. Should definitely have scored another and it sounds ole the Lino had a 'mare. If that decision is at the other end do we get it? Doubtful. Plastic Man U fans though. They were poor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Predicting results, let alone a series of results is a mug's game. Just wait and see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This all reminds me of when Svennsson got crocked and Lundekvam was marshalling the back. Now, VVD is not seriously injured but a team can't get anywhere much without a decent defence. We created some ok chances but got mugged by West Ham. Just like versus West Brom. Just like back when we last got relegated from the prem. it's so competitive now that you need proper quality to avoid flirting with relegation. We are a soft touch and this needs addressing big time in the summer or we'll go. I think we'll be ok this time (just) but unless we make a few key signings then we'll go for sure. Especially if Virgil goes and let's face it, is almost certain to. There's still a very good team in there somewhere but we need a bit more luck, a few less injuries and a few minor adjustments in personnel and we'll look half decent again. Fingers crossed. We'll need, what? 38 points? 3 wins and a couple of draws. Then much more assertiveness in the transfer market. If not we're shafted next season as everyone else strengthens again. Should've got it back to 2-2 then they scored. New man blazed a good one over. Yoshida should've headed but tried a ridiculous acrobatic. Couple of long range ones. Header tipped over. JWP free kick. If they'd had those chances they'd have out one or two in. So yes, reasonably good chances. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Murphy too. "I've no issue with giving young players a chance but you can't drop them into a team with 10 changes." Spot on. It's not fair on them or Martina, Houjberg, Long who have to try and steer them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Well why don't we have the squad depth?! Supposed to be Europe ready but we can't play on Wednesday and Saturday? And we need to change 10 players?! If the club are going to do this, how about we charge a quid? FA cup has become a joke. Sad. We're not the only ones at it but it it's a bit of **** take to be honest. It's a shame that for whatever reason he is on the verge of going. Black, wages, extra year, UEFA... whatever it is. That said I'm not sure West Ham were the kind of club he was after....not really a massive trade up in terms of ability. Maybe potential. Maybe history but just premier league also rans. Maybe he wants to be in London? Wouldn't be the first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

+1. Got to get more players forward against bang average sides. No good setting up to keep things tight and hope you nick something. In the time I've been following saints we've rarely been much cop away but it's so predictable that we'll play keep ball but not stick it away. Surely you'd get more points by playing with a little adventure from time to time. I also don't think we've the players to go 4-3-3. I think you need wide men who hunt the ball back properly as a pack to play that properly and ours just don't do it for 90 minutes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Still think we're in the ****. Liverpool was encouraging but no killer instinct. We will limp to c40 points. If we're lucky. I'm a bit concerned tbh. It's not like last year's autumn/winter slump. We had much better players then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nor me. I coach a young kids side and we sometimes have MLT soccer school coaches in. Pele, the old centre back does it. He's effectively building himself a second career as a youth coach. Properly nice bloke with no pretensions. Clearly earned a lot of money compared with me but almost certainly not enough to retire with so he's just getting on, carrying on doing what he loves. I think the exceptional players should earn enough to never have to work again but merely good players, like Fonte? Nah, not for me. I think a lot of prem players now are totally removed from reality, unsurprisingly. We will need a new CB if he goes but there's always a younger, stronger guy out there. Let's hope the fabled club knowledge is on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree that not playing him in the Europa was bound to cheese him off. Should've played the Inter games plus Sparta at home. Yoshida could've done a job against Burnley for example. Yet Van Dijk who is clearly knackered has to play in all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Really, when you get down to it footballers are little boys pretending to men: Undermining the manager. Getting Bertrand to do the same. Player denies contract is on the table, club says the opposite etc etc. Only thing I can recall on the record is stating VvD is the better player (which he clearly is.) Where's this MLT evidence or is it something he's said to someone off the record? I don't think Jose is going anywhere in the prem for big money. I always thought he struggled for a while upon promotion though to be fair he didn't have a great partner. I can see Everton or some other mid table ****e but I'd be surprised if he goes to proper big club. After all, they can spend anything they like. Also this bother me: How come Toby, that C Lovren etc got snaffled up so quickly and Jose didn't? Is it because he was doing the quiet stuff and going unnoticed or is it that Virgil, Toby etc actually do a lot of the hard stuff? I don't know. We don't need a player who has burnt their bridges but until we hit 40 points this year I'm going to be nervous. Bad timing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
