  1. 1. Lambert equaliser at City in 2012...great moment. 2. Win at Chelsea under Koeman when Davis, Mane and Pelle scored. That day our front three (Tadic, Mane and Pelle) absolutely killed Chelsea. 3. 3-2 win versus Spurs last season. Hasenhuttl performance at its best, first half we were unplayable (aside from the final action, as usual). Even in the last few years we did have occasional moments where we looked a proper team.
  2. Wonder if MLT and Lambert fancy a jab at taking us back up? Imagine the data-science led recruitment policy wouldn't be to their liking but otherwise a good chance for them to unmask the clubs potential.
  3. And, as proven with Jones, surely we want someone who has shown they can be successful at more than one club? We will be a big fish at Championship level, at least for a season or two. No time for experiments.
  4. Did you root for Ralph Krueger, find yourself charmed by Lee Hoos or really value the work of Toby Steele? Can be Chairman, CEO, CFO or even a Commercial Director if thats your thing.
  5. Tella will clearly end up going and we will be well compensated. That said, if we lose him and Adams then we will also be in a position where we have barely anyone with any EFL experience (Baz, Bree, Armstrong and Smallbone the only ones I can think of). Its a different style and is relentless with lots of midweek games. Tella has adapted to that and Adams is generally a robust player and would score a lot of goals next season. Someone like Stu Armstrong won't be much use as won't start enough games. We will clearly lose our better players and probably some of the hangers on. The key, as ever, is going to be our recruitment as we will be bring in at least 10 players again.
  6. This is a very difficult question to answer. I am certain I have missed viable candidates but surely shouts for these: Villa away under Ralph Newcastle home under Ralph Lincoln home under Jones Brighton home under Jones Forest home under Jones Brentford away under Jones West Ham away under Selles Some absolute dross in these. I think Brighton at home wins for me because of the amount of prep time and semi-expectation that we might have developed something in the 6 weeks training only for there to be no dicernable plan.
  7. He has increased the standard and level of competition in training which has pushed on the likes of Elyounoussi and Adam Armstrong to new heights. Fair play to them for keeping him out.
  8. Ron told me that supposedly JWP was in Newcastle last weekend sorting it. Keep it to yourself though mate.
  9. Bumped into Terry at the weekend and he told me that Dale had mentioned to you the snippet he heard from Neil at the laundrette. Time will tell but Bryn told me Neil is usually spot on and Gary at the lodge can vouch for him as well. Love to the family, Colin.
  10. I worry because there is just so much to do within a couple of months and if we don't make a good start then it will get worse rather than better. We currently have no Manager, Head of Recruitment or Academy Director so not ideal in terms of planning. We will lose a lot of players but perhaps not early enough to use the cash to get in players we want. Highly likely we will have players in pre season who know they won't be there in August and whose attitudes might not be the best. We will have players who we think will stay who are probably unhappy and will want to leave or feel they have done enough to stay in the PL (potentially the likes of Livramento, Alcaraz). We probably have top Academy players who will be being pressured to leave. We will likely have very few players with either a.) Championship experience b.) Proven PL ability c.) A goal record at any level. In key positions, especially CB and CM we may be left with pretty much no senior players, certainly in midfield where its possible that all.of JWP, Lavia, AMN and Diallo leave. Is it realistic to sign a whole new CM group who are one of the best in the league and have them ready to go for the first game? IMO unlikely. The usual advantage relegated PL teams have is that a few players who stay are clearly top level Champ players, I am not sure I can see many to whom that will apply - possibly Bazunu (if he regains confidence and stays), Livramento (if fit and stays) and Sulemana (if he finds some end product and stays). As soon as we are confirmed as relegated hopefully they will get on with making key appointments.
  11. Good interview with him on The Athletic this morning. Played 45 games for Stoke and third in their fans POTS vote. Biggest thing...he really wants to play for Saints no matter what division. We won't have too many of those in the current squad so hopefully he has a key role.
  12. The one good thing is that there is genuinely a target to aim for and a tangible achievement to be had. Irony being that the target is to spend as little time there as possible.
  13. Genuine question, once Ings made it absolutely clear that he wasn't going to sign a new contract and in a yesr would leave for free, surely it was a no brainer to accept an offer of upwards of £25m for him? The issue is that we couldn't persuade him to re-sign with us and that he wasn't adequately replaced, the decision to sell him was kind of obvious.
  14. Whoever we get, aside from their managerial/coaching skills simply has to be someone who can quickly get the fans onside in the way that both Koeman and Ralph did. Someone who is able to acknowledge and shoulder the expectation/pressure of automatic promotion whilst realising the culture of the club has to be rebuilt simultaneously. Its going to take a big character, and someone with an established reputation, either as a manager or a recently retired player who will command respect. I'm not suggesting any names but clearly its a massive appointment that will set the tone.
  15. Simple - list the top 3 reasons, in that order, that you believe has caused our (almost certain) relegation. IMO: 1. Appointing Nathan Jones Disaster, wasted a mini pre season and used up our best fixture run. 2. Failure to sign goalscorer(s) in the summer Look at our squad, the only players who are capable of semi regular PL goals are Adams and JWP. Nowhere near enough. 3. Failure to sack Ralph in the summer It was clear he was done, and we missed a chance to shift the momentum. As soon as we had a bad spell it was inevitable he would go.
  16. Lets be honest, to even give yourselves a hope of depending on other results to stay up we will need to win a minimum of 3 of our last 6 games, most likely 4. Given some of the fixtures I think its clear that tonight simply has to be a win to keep that very tiny possibility of staying up alive. If we suddenly win tonight and away at Newcastle then who knows. But its pretty obvious we aren't good enough to produce a run like that. When we go down it will be a very deserved relegation.
  17. Hypothetically: JWP - £40m Lavia - £40m ABK - £25m (cheap for a Germany Intl of his age) KWP - £20m Adams - £15m Salisu - £20m £160m here and could easily end up with others like Livramento, Alcaraz, Sulemana attracting interest and if they did each of those would be for sizeable fees. Obviously we aren't going to sell our whole squad but we will rake in a substantial amount, thats for sure. Therefore when Tella goes it won't be because we are desperate for the cash.
  18. Conservatively we will be able to raise £150m through the sales of JWP, Lavia, KWP, Adams and ABK alone. Will also likely end up saving on the high wages of Elyounoussi, Walcott and Armstrong. Financially we should be in a decent enough position not to be forced to accept a deal for Tella for financial reasons. He will go because he will be firm that he wants to.
  19. If anyone is qualified to structure the academy and make some good hires its Jason Wilcox. The fact he is incoming is the one positive.
  20. Never hear a peep out of Neal Trotman. Always bleating on about Oldham and Halifax FFS.
  21. Moving Alcaraz to play deeper would be a pretty dumb move considering he is our main fit goal threat. Not that it really matters. To stay up we will probably need to win 3 games in a row from now and thats not going to happen. The spell under Jones killed us.
  22. In reality he is worth more than £50m given age, potential and length of contact. Ben White cost £50m. Is Caicedo is supposedly £80m then £50m for Lavia is cheap as he is potentially a generational talent. City should buy him back for £40m and sell Phillips to West Ham for the same.
  23. Lol. The gap between our best players (JWP, Lavia, KWP, ABK) and our worst (Armstrong, Moi, Perraud) tonight was stark. I can't really recall a Saints team where this was the case as much as in the current team. I mean Lavia to Diallo is like comparing Ings to Lee Barnard. JWP has carried this team for 18 months and deserves better.
  24. Will be interesting to see what SR go for. In theory its an attractive job and a good chance of going straight back up - albeit not helped by the size of the other clubs likely to come down. There is also the fan element. Feels like it needs to be someone who can very quickly get the fans onside.
  25. Lyanco is too volatile and can't defend. What you need in Championship centre backs is consistency at doing the basics well and he is awful at that. Would miles rather keep Bednarek than Lyanco. Given what we will lose, we will need substantial signings in central midfield and at centre back to have a chance. They will need to be starting XI players who are ready to go from minute 1. Our best chance is to make a strong start and that might help the relegation hangover if rhe ones who stay realise they have a good chance of getting back to the PL quickly. A slow start and it will only get worse. In theory players like Edozie and Mara should make a strong impact. Tella was pretty ineffective in the PL and look how he has done once he gained a bit of confidence. Youngster wise...if Ballard and Doyle aren't proper first team squad members then we may as well close the academy. The only positive of being so woeful this season is that they will have had months to plan, so hopefully managerial and key player situations will be resolved quickly.
