Fifty Years Ago it was Getting Tense but we Did it

that 6-2 win at Stamford Bridge was the first time i every saw police horses inside ground, we were under that old stand(think it was called North Stand) that only went about a third of the way long the end opposite the Shed -

i was 12 and mum and dad took me to everyone of those except Preston and Man City Have said before the Charlton game was the most tense i can remember I think, in fact know because of my two sons telling me, that younger fans who have known the premier league find it hard to understand that this was the first time the club got to the top flight at that time in the words of the song "were yet to win the FA Cup or win the league but you will see were going to win them both one day" so 50% there -
Saw game Stan was getting on but in an era when the only football on tv was the cup final, it was a privilege up to the first promotion season i can always remember the "grown ups" saying the board did not want to go up saw my first game in 1960 and starting going on my own, with mates, in 66 the promotion season still rate the game and goal in that season against Charlton at the Dell as one of my big highlights in 50 plus years of support, most tension i have ever felt at a game. happy days, football was affordable for all, players lived within the community all over the city, drunk in local pubs and were ordinary guys

Southampton vs Chelsea Post Match Throw away

slightly disappointed but then again i would have taken 3 points from last seasons champions at the beginning of the season only worry is bring Pelle on, we look so much better with mobile forwards makes it so much easier for rest of team when under pressure, once Pelle and Mane were on the movement stopped -
locks heath/warsash is border country but as others have said skates tend to hide away in bad times, which in my 62 years of life is about 56 years, blue shirts are a rare sight these days

Easter 1966 Won at Bristol City Good Friday , drew at Home against them Easter Monday(Channon's debut?) eventually led to first ever promotion to top flight
-

will be blo*dy tough

anyway Atkinson got a message from the Greed is Good League Bosses at half time saying, it will not be good if Leicester win do what is necessary. They cannot have a smaller club do well, upsets the Journos and Big Boys

At what point would you walk out of a Saints game?
70's Mike replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
Vicious circle, the time to protest about prices is when you are doing badly and down to the hardcore. Problem is you don't do it because you feel guilty it may hurt team When you are doing well , there will be JCL to buy tickets for games I am 62 in April, 56 years of going to games, Home and Away, bought 2 sons into the faith but in all honesty I am slowly falling out of love with the Premier League, not the Club who will always be my team, but the greed is good league are manipulating football in this country. From stupid kick off times, to blaming grass roots for the lack of talent when they take all the best to their academies from 8 and over coach them,to taking the pi** out of those who go to games. Stinks -
ignored them from 60's until today, the more you ignore them the more wound up they get give it 10 more years and there will be very few living who actually saw them in 1950 when they won Div one you go round the Hilsea roundabout and enter a time warp, always been like it always will be like it

think we have some very good coaches on paper but at under 18/21 so do lots of other clubs, the best players, imo, develop where the coaches also show a passion for the game. reports i hear are that there is to much theory and not enough practical work
-
is there a bubble
-
not seen another thread but 32 years ago today was perhaps one of the greatest days in the history of the club, especially for the supporters.

the old ones are the best

Kefalonia for me , although its 30 years since i went there -
agreed the world has moved on and PC rules these days
-
understand but that formation has not worked so well this season, to predictable, and we struggle to break down sides who sit back, we need to draw them out something and sticking Pelle down the middle with no close support will, IMO, fail
-
would start with same side, playing Pelle may play to WBA strengths. Weds was first time for ages I enjoyed our attacking play from midfield and forwards running behind defenders

having a 5 year plan is fine as long as the core objective is a successful first team, without that none of the rest really matters. without that strong first team, income eventually drops and the rest of the plan becomes unrealistic in economic terms
