Really ? .... I've heard some 'sickie' excuses in my time but that's way out there !!

Seem to remember Sturrock only being given a handful of games and his results weren't too shabby. I suppose tho', to lose the dressing room after only 6 games does make you a pretty poor manager

It's a good question very ably handled by the post below The point is Puel is a coach not a manager. It's the modern way and most clubs work like that nowadays. I think the reasoning behind it is keeping continuity and making the transition smoother as coaches come and go. Players are essentially club signings not the coach's signings (obviously there's some input). So if the coach leaves the new guy doesn't inherit a group of players put together by someone who's no longer involved in the club and who's 'vision' for them, went with him. Theoretically the wheels just keep turning but with a different coach in place. From a clubs point of view it also means it's not such a 'biggie' to replace a coach if he's not performing, tho' that's arguable. I think Fergie was probably the last of the old school managers, though I'm not really sure what the Wenger/Arsenal set up is.

That was a big concern of mine as well but 7 games in, we don't seem to be lacking in passion and it hasn't taken long for the players to adapt to his system so he's obviously communicating with them well enough.

Thought it was about time this thread was revived. Lots of people were pretty scathing about CP's appointment at the start of the season. Comments like 'clueless', 'out of his depth', 'cheap option from a sh*t league' and 'toilet' spring to mind but there were many more. Still standing by these comments are we ? For me, Claude Puel's looking every bit the coach Les Reed assured us he would be. He's showing tactical nous, good with team selection and looks more than capable of coping with the pressure of the Premier League and our high expectations. On top of that he appears to be liked and respected by the players and he's giving the kids a go. On the negative, his interviews are dull but who gives a f*** !! I know it's early days but he looks like the real deal to me.

Well lets not get carried away. He's scored 2 goals in open play and is good for an hour before he's kn*ckered. Not knocking him, he's just what we needed at the moment .... but for England ? instead of Rashford ? No way.

I reckon we'd make an exception for him if we could make it happen. If he were to become available I think both us and Everton would be interested. I'd like to think his heart might tempt him 'home' but in reality he'd have to take a pay cut for that to happen. He probably wouldn't at Everton.

Completely agree, he's been playing very well this season and he always gives 100%. He's solid in defence and what he lacks in pace going forward, he makes up for in tenacity. Don't expect it'll stop the haters tho'.
