Romero will be the new Boruc. We will get him in October once it finally becomes obvious to the club that insisting on Forster and McCarthy will relegate us just like Kelvin and Gazzaniga 9 years ago.
-
Remember when the club thought Kelvin and Gazzaniga were good enough to go into a Premier League season? Good times. Some things never change. BUY A BLOODY GOALKEEPER FFS!
-
Tomiyasu is likely one since we apparently tried to sign him in January. Boubacar Kamara and Jerry St. Juste would fit the description of what we are after, we haven't been linked but other clubs have for the sort of fee we would pay.
-
Yeah, Tomiyasu is on Spurs' shortlist but there seem to be other players like Pau Torres ahead of him. Could be one that falls on our lap and he may well be the one at the top of our shortlist considering that we apparently tried to sign him in January. I would exclude Wolves from that list, the money tap looks shut.

Part of it is learning the lessons from when we were handing out 5 year contracts to the likes of Hoedt, Lemina and Elyounoussi. We still do give out 5 year contracts, but only to existing players like JWP or when new signings are coming in on relatively low wages like Adams or Livramento because joining us is a massive opportunity for them. To give 5 year contracts as opposed to 4 to players who have other options besides us would likely require giving them higher initial wages to compensate for the fact that we would have less of an incentive to offer them improved deals if they perform and massively increase the risk to us if they turn out to be shite, as unfortunately we know all too well. There is nothing stopping us from offering them new deals but it is a problem if it takes them a while to justify it, but there isn't really much we can do about it other than gamble that they will improve after their first season. As for selling when players only have 1 year left and not before, were there ever any clubs willing to pay significantly more than £15m for Hojbjerg, £15 for Vestergaard, £30m for Ings? At one time what buying clubs were willing to pay and what we were willing to sell for coincided more often than not when a player had 2 years left on their contract, maybe that is now just 1.

What's with all the Phillips talk? I can't find any reliable links, the closest I can find is James Pearce about a week ago naming us alongside several others as being interested. What am I missing here? Also, when did Vestergaard become so highly rated among fans of other clubs? The way some people are talking about him you could be forgiven for thinking that had more agility than a beached cargo ship in the Suez.

Forster or McCarthy, who's your No. 1 keeper this season?

Forster's 75k per week or whatever it is amounts to 3.9m a year. Would no one really take him on a free transfer and pay him the difference between his new contract and his current one as a signing on fee? Sheffield United for example, selling Ramsdale for a ridiculous amount, would they really have no interest in either Forster or McCarthy for free? The salary argument is valid when they have several years left, but with just one it makes a lot less sense. This club just has a bizarre blindspot when it comes to keepers, for me the last truly good one we had was Niemi almost 20 years ago (at Premier League level obviously, so excluding Kelvin). -
Hijacking Newcastle's move for Kamara makes too much sense. Equally comfortable at CB and DM like Ralph said he wanted, fee of the kind we can pay, currently on his I think 2nd contract at Marseille and sort of player who would probably be sold for a profit after 3 years which fits with what Semmens said yesterday. Would prefer to spend the money on a proper GK and sign a backup CB on loan with Bednarek and Salisu as first choice but looks like that's not happening.
-
So no, not Phil Jones.
-
Think that will be one player, a Boubacar Kamara type who plays both CB and CM. But no GK.
-
No new goalkeeper.

Celtic fans say he has a piss poor attitude and has been half-arsing it for a while now. I'd pass on him, if he does that there he would do it here too.

Is the reason people don't want Sorloth based on his time at Palace? He hardly played for them and when he did he usually had Benteke occupying his best role and even at Leipzig he has often faced a similar situation with Poulsen. Youtube eye test suggests that he is quite a good player, fast, strong, good technical ability, very good in the air and his stats are good too, 0.50 non penalty goals and assists per 90 minutes last season (Ings was 0.58) and presses a lot (94th percentile). One thing that stands out from watching his youtube highlights is how often it shows him playing deep at Leipzig whereas at Trabzonspor he is usually in the box, think Trabzonspor got more out of him than any other club not because of the quality of the league but simply because they consistently played him in his best role. Leipzig sometimes did and he has been decent, Palace never did and he was shite. I would take him for the 15 million euros Leipzig supposedly want although I would also want Armstrong, we need both. Signing only one still leaves us short on goalscorers and would be putting all our eggs in one basket, getting both would be an insurance of sorts in case one of them flops for whatever reason.

In light of recent events... Eddie Nketiah?
-
No excuses now... I WANT A GOALKEEPER!!!!!!!111111!!!!!!!!!
-
Tom Leach says we want a ball carrying CB who can do a job at DM and when we signed Livramento it was said that it wasn't the last purchase with buy back from a big 6 club that we were trying to make. 2 + 2 = 5 Ethan Ampadu?
-
17/18 was the last time we made a profit from player trading and the people responsible for driving the club into the ground have been gone for a while now, we have been fairly well run since but are still cleaning up the mess they left behind. So everything you are saying was true 3 years ago, but not now.
-
One of those thought they were going to take over the world with their dugouts and warchests. If the fact that they ended up spending a big part of that warchest on a nonce doesn't slap them back to reality then nothing will. As for the other lot, their best player who has been at the club since he was 5, whose whole family supports them, had a grandfather who played for them and without whom their form was relegation standard is about to jump ship. They have been going on about ambition and how rich their owners are but not even their lifelong supporting star player believes it.
-
Because all 5 are midtable clubs who will never achieve anything?
-
Those clowns will soon be making £25m bids for Mbappé 😂. Saints should just add their email to the spam filter if they make anymore bids 😂.
-
With the squad as it is right now assuming no significant departures, at least a starting GK and a couple of players for depth at RB, LB and CM. Twins?
-
Got rid of a load of dross clogging up their wage bill.
-
Don't see how a CB fits into the squad unless Ralph is already taking into account Vestergaard's sale. Vestergaard, Bednarek, Salisu, Stephens and new CB is a lot unless we go with 3 CB.
