Timeline doesn't mean anything. We, like Watford, keep the current guy in place until a replacement is locked in instead of the traditional Everton/Stoke approach of sacking and then desperately looking for a successor, Puel was done at the end of the season and for all we know Pellegrino might be too, just because we haven't sacked him yet doesn't mean we haven't already decided to do so. I don't see why we wouldn't have rejected Marco Silva in the summer, what happened at Watford is not out of character, he has previous for this at Sporting and Olympiacos. He might actually be a more attractive proposition now if this latest episode has knocked his attitude down a peg.

Pretty sure it is after tax so we are offering around 90k/week. Transfer fee is the easy part, if that was the only obstacle he would already be here. Hard part is convincing him to join a club in the relegation zone and matching his current salary which is much higher than anyone else in the squad. If we pay it we might get some unhappy players feeling like they deserve a pay rise.* *:lol::lol::lol: Just pay the guy what he wants Les.

And rightly so. Another in a long line of failed british "the manager is the most important person at the club, coaching players and doing the job I am paid to do is beneath me and should be left to my assistants, what I really want is to have the power to fire the tea lady if she serves my tea at the wrong temperature, do we even have a tea lady anymore? It's all them foreigns' fault, what with them coming here and being better and actually doing coaching themselves" types. Hell will freeze over before we appoint someone like him.

FFS the goals per game bullsh!t is back, it's one of the most worthless stats around. Like Gabbi at Napoli, Carrillo's minutes per game is very low as he has a high number of sub appearances. Over the last 18 months his goals per 90 minutes is about 1, so the equivalent of a goal per game. Still, not a fan of the type of player he is and don't think he is what we need (I want a couple of Manés) but some of our fans want a big target man so may get their wish.

Not french nobility then, narrows it down. Be careful not to out your source simoITK.

We could do with some aerial presence. Do you know if he has a head?

Serious available candidates for the impending managerial vacancy!
Cartman replied to captain sensible's topic in The Saints
That doesn't make any sense to me, if that is the thinking then he should just be sacked right now. The biggest reason to sack him should be whether there is someone better that fits the way we operate available and willing to come, if there is then he should go, if not he stays. It shouldn't depend on the next few results, if that was the case then either there is someone available but we don't have the courage of our convictions to make a decision or there isn't and we will sack him with no idea what to do next. -
Yay! More Longs and Redmonds and less Manés, Leminas and Van Dijks! Enough with the prem proven bullsh!t, it means nothing more than getting worse value for money. That Jeremy Wilson article strikes me as a PR piece for the fans' benefit, unlike us to publicly announce our transfer targets until it is all but a done deal. The one bit I would say is true would be the signing from France, if only because he says it is close to done and no name is given, which is more like us. Hoping it's Trapp, he wants out of PSG since losing his place in the starting line up.

Yes! Their backup goalkeeper Kevin Trapp!

Liverpool agree world-record £75m deal for Virgil van Dijk

Since when do we sign players from the Championship? -
Need a GK and 2 wide forwards Trapp (PSG) or Skorupski (Roma) Malcom (Bordeaux) & Promes (Spartak Moscow)

Berizzo or Montella -
Sacked by Sevilla. Montella has some company on my shortlist now.

Frying pan and epicentre of a nuclear blast more like. And the bomb would be me when first hearing about it.
-
Wonder if Gabriel Macaya will replace him? Compagnucci and Tamarit came here with Pellegrino but Macaya joined Bielsa at Lille, however it is all falling apart over there between Bielsa and the clubs' executives so he might not have a job much longer.
-
To give an answer I would need to know who is available and interested in the job. Who should we hire is a more important question than whether or not we should sack Pellegrino since there is not point in getting rid of him only to bring in someone who is no better or worse. It's like it was with Adkins, the decision to sack him may well have been taken when we had only 4 points from our first 10 games but we only actually fired him a few months later when someone we wanted was finally available, even though results had picked up by that point. If someone we want and believe to be superior to Pellegrino is available then we should get him, but until then we should hold off from pressing the panic button.

From wikipedia: We can rule out Simeone then. Not good enough.

Or maybe you are just selective with the facts. No mention of the fact that Alavés were a newly promoted side and finished 9th on 55 points (and are now in the relegation zone having already sacked Pellegrino's replacement AND the replacement's replacement). Or that he got Valencia through their Champions League group beating eventual champions Bayern 4-1 along the way and that the fans weren't particularly happy about his sacking and wanted the president's head instead. And that he would have gone to Sevilla to replace Sampaoli if they hadn't been able to get Berizzo, which is strange for a guy who would apparently would struggle to get a job in the championship. None of this is to say he is the right man for this particular job, but to write him off as some random unknown who wasn't qualified for it says more about this forum's general ignorance of what goes on in football outside this country than it does about Pellegrino, indeed I mentioned him as an option before he had even left Alavés and I wasn't even the first poster to do so. None of the coaches we have hired since sacking Adkins were unknown, only to those for whom football played beyond the channel is an entirely different sport. In fact, of the four coaches since Adkins the one with the weakest coaching cv was Koeman, and his hiring was the one received the most positive reaction entirely because of his playing career. For what it's worth, I only see one viable candidate available, Vicenzo Montella. The rest are either not good enough, unavailable (even if we were to try and get someone in a job, they would probably want to finish the season first) or won't be interested.
-
You mean Les would want the coach to focus on doing the job he was hired to do instead of wanting to do his boss' job?
-
As if we would ever hire someone like Allardyce. Or Pulis. Or anyone British for that matter. Next coach will be foreign, and the one after that, and the one after that. British managers have the terrible habit of wanting to be the next Ferguson, Clough, Shankly and run the whole club, we won't go anywhere near them.
-
Or that their finishing is beyond abysmal.
-
I'm sure there are... abroad, where we usually buy players from. Yet for some reason the names mentioned here are almost always domestic based. Rule of thumb when thinking about potential signings, they will be under 26 and playing abroad. Usually backup players for the top teams, the best players from midtable teams in the better leagues or the top players in secondary leagues, in the latter case particularly if they perform well in the Champions League or Europa. Only in exceptional circumstances will we stray from that (like Austin & Redmond in the championship with 6 and 12 months left on their respective contracts).
-
Players and it is not even close.
-
Or the players aren't anywhere near as good as some on here seem to think they are.
