  1. As long as they move abroad, sure. For me, the worst part of seeing our best players leave isn't that they will no longer play for us but that they will be used against us.
  2. We don't seem to be in any hurry to get rid of either Targett or McQueen so wonder if Bertrand might actually be a left sided CB this season. It's not like he has never done it before and if Walker can do it...
  3. He has pace, stamina and work rate... if a gun was pointed at my head forcing us to keep him I would have him as backup to Cédric at right wing back. But since there are no guns anywhere near me, he has to go. 2 goals FFS!!!!
  4. Prone to mistakes, poor in the air, very good passer of the ball for a centre back. His skill set seems better suited to defensive midfield, maybe we will turn him in to one.
  5. So not satisfied with setting 20m on fire in January, Les wants to set another 20m alight. Great.
  6. Assuming Bednarek keeps progressing at the same rate and Hoedt returns to his Lazio form, then yes. At least more so than adding a new CB and still having inadequate protection from midfield. And certainly far better than adding Schär who wouldn't improve us in any way.
  7. You want a centre back who at one point was dropped by a team that conceded 76 goals last season? Why? Personally I think our failure to properly replace Wanyama is a bigger issue than the CBs. Romeu might lock better on the ball but doesn't give the defense anything like the sort of protection Vic did, which would also make us play more defensively to compensate if the West Ham defeat is anything to go by. McCarthy/Bednarek/Hoedt/New Vic seems like an adequate defensive spine.
  8. This. A return to the all powerful manager will send us straight back to the championship. If Hughes is demanding this then I want someone else.
  9. Foreign. Lower league players are mostly crap.
  10. Who is the seventh? Leicester? Burnley?
  11. Cedric - Stay if he wants to Yoshida - Stay Clasie - Go Stephens - Stay Hoedt - Stay Long - Go Davis - Stay as squad player, send Hesketh on loan and replace next year. Midfield is strong enough as it is and don't think we should be buying squad players to make up the numbers Carrillo - Stay. Came in under dismal circumstances and not had much of a chance. Let him go if we get close to our money back but that is not happening is it? And I'm getting rid of all our other strikers so someone has to stay Austin - Go. Show, unreliable fitness, shouldn't be hard to find a buyer Tadic - Stay McCarthy - New contract Romeu - Stay Ward-Prowse - Stay Lemina - Stay Boufal - Go Gabbiadini - Want him to stay but probably going back home Bertrand - Stay if he wants to Redmond - Stay Hojbjerg - Stay Gardos - Go Pied - Go Gallagher - Go Taylor - Go Wood - Go Jones - Go Targett - Go Flannigan - Go Bednarek - Stay McQueen - Stay Sims - Stay Forster - Go if someone is generous enough to take him off our hands otherwise stay as backup Reed - Go Myth. If I was a defender I would love playing against someone who offers practically no threat whatsoever.
  12. Bertrand wasn't called up because Southgate wants wing backs and offensively he is worse than Rose and Young. It's a similar situation with Cédric who has been called up to the Portugal squad over Semedo and Cancelo because their coach Fernando Santos wants more defensive minded full backs and, despite being the worst of the four right backs considered in attack, he is the strongest defensively. Ricardo Pereira is the other right back chosen and is probably the one who provides the best balance between defense and attack and more importantly is better defensively than the two that were dropped. It's just tactical choices, nothing more.
  13. How? All it means is if we want to sign him he won't cost more than £36m. That is quite a bit more than what he would really cost and what we would be willing to pay. The headline says "Sofiane Boufal talks up France return following Mark Hughes row as Southampton target £36m Celta Vigo winger Pione Sisto". The press in this country stupidly treat release clauses as if they were price tags, by the same logic our players are worth £∞.
  14. Because the squad is too big, besides lacking in quality in some areas, we need to cut the numbers and increase quality. We also have players on loan so they are either being added to the sales list or replacing someone in the squad who then gets added to the sales list.
  15. Why do they mention his release clause? It's not relevant. Bertrand's release clause is infinity since he doesn't have one, are they going to mention that?
  16. "Yes - otherwise people will start to say 'when I voted out I knew EXACTLY what I meant, and it meant EXACTLY the same as everyone else who voted out'."
  17. Austin - Physically shot (I will choose to believe that he is off to Villa) Long - Technical ability non existent Gabbi - Best of the lot (no great accomplishment )but looks like going to Torino Gallagher - Championship standard at best That leaves... we aren't getting our money back so we might as well keep him as a squad player. Rather keep him than Long, if only because I know exactly what Long offers (or more to the point, doesn't offer).
  18. Mukiele (Montpellier) Kongolo (Monaco) Promes (Spartak) Alcácer (Barcelona) Right Back to be determined
  19. Good choice of photo. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/may/11/uk-has-seen-brexit-related-growth-in-racism-says-un-representative
  20. How have the under 23 performed? Have any of them shown enough potential to be squad players next season?
  21. Exactly right. There is nothing wrong with how the club is structured, just that Reed & Wilson should have their performance over the last two years seriously analysed and possibly replaced. Giving Hughes full control and getting rid of a structure that has largely served us well would be a throwing the baby out with the bath water type move, even more so when poor transfer decisions are largely what got Hughes the sack from Stoke in the first place. When a manager does a poor job no one advocates replacing him with no one and giving the players full control. Being a good coach and being a good DOF require different skill sets and it is not often that you will be lucky enough to hire someone who good at both jobs, which is effectively what a traditional full control manager is.
  22. In the unlikely event that City start running up a cricket score against us we will simply instruct five of our players to get sent off and forfeit the game 3-0. That would leave a Swansea side who have scored 27 goals all season needing to win 7-0. It's over, relax.
  23. Would domestic mercenaries be better? Don't know why so many get wound up by the stepping stone comment, it's true for us and everyone else other than 4 or 5 clubs in the world. Even a club like Liverpool is a stepping stone to the likes of Barcelona.
  24. NO! Do that and we will be this season's Stoke in no time. Get rid of Reed and get another DOF (what is Paul Mitchell up to these days?). 2 CB, Promes and a striker is the absolute minimum needed.
  25. Still makes my blood boil. Such an obviously stupid decision at the time and even worse now that we know that persisting further with the useless lump would have relegated us.
