I am quite worried for us now. Wigan normally start their top six form about now and the win yesterday could be the beginning of that. Villa and QPR both have a bit of confidence at the moment. Exactly this. We are looking a much better team now with these new tactics, we are finally trying to play higher up the pitch rather than knocking it aimlessly across the back four in our own half then running out of ideas. The players are looking very fit and using that fitness to good effect. We just have to be switched on at the back more.

its no good playing football in the middle third and then going backwards all the time. Its not defenders we need its a better quality midfield who can keep the ball in the final third and unlock teams. Its not just against chelsea we have been doing this all season and until this is addressed we will not improve. You do not score goals playing football in our own half.

Some people moaning about signing more attacking players really do need to wake up. If we started improving the quality of our midfield and i am talking all of them then perhaps we will not be so vulnerable at the back. Sure a quality centre half would be welcomed but i think boruc will be fine. Lalanna and puncheon have done okay and schneiderlin and davis/cork have also done okay at times but we really do need to start looking for better quality in there. We fail to hurt teams enough for me and alot of our ball retention always breaks down when we reach the final third. Its all very well knocking the ball across our back four into central midfield and then back across the defence again to the keeper but that doesnt create you chances. Yes we are a new team whos goal is to stay up and i would be happy with that but i dont think our owners will be.

So for those blaming Guly, Rodriguez original one on one was the easier chance so why is he not to blame ? It was a poor effort that allowed the x skate to block it and if you watch the replays it was not a straight forward open goal for guly. Its hardly surprising his confidence might be a bit low however he had a good game overall and our inability to make the extra man count cost us the game.

We played a lot like we did last season, lots of possesion around the half way line but little impact in the final third because teams in this division are a step too far. Its all very well knocking 20 passes together across the back four and centre midfield only then to have to go back again as the opposition are far too organised for us to penetrate their lines. I am sure we do look good in training as we are playing against our own midfield and defence who have been proved to be not up to the job. I am undecided if getting rid of Nige is the answer as like others i still dont get how much control he has anyway. We will find it hard to attract players in january to improve things as it could be all over by then anyway so what manager of experience is going to want to take that on. I think we are also a bit over hyped regarding our attacking play as lets face it we never created a lot for a team that was set up with such attacking players so its back to the drawing board as this Southampton way whatever that is is clearly the wrong way.

The figures for block 3 are misleading as several of us who were in block 4 have renewed in block 3 so not sure how many have done that. Why it doesnt show i do not know.
