This is what I cannot understand, I played at a decent level as a keeper and was coached by some good keepers in my time and coming for crosses was something that I worked on regularly. I was always encouraged to claim the ball even if you had no chance of catching it get a solid punch and if necessary go through the attacker as you will not get penalised. Now I am only 6-1" and i would claim as much as possible, not only that if the opposition know you are going to come for these crosses it deters them from making them.

This is the crux of it, it’s all very well for the club to leak snippets that we are interested in a certain player to please the fans. Getting those to join is a totally different matter

The manager claimed he was playing our best 11,so when that doesn’t involve 2 players signed in the last 12 months that cost 15 million each there is either something wrong with him or the people signing the players. When we sign players of that value they need to be good enough to improve the first 11 consistently and in both cases looked good at the beginning of their time here but have got worse. I will give Reed the benefit of doubt and blame the manager for using them both incorrectly.

Reed needs to stop making hearing aid adverts for Boots and concentrate on his job.

As much as the second half was great for effort and endeavour we can't hide from the fact that 9 of our last 10 home games has been Southampton nil. That's got to be a record surely for any top flight team and if not addressed soon Daleks 17th will look good. Lemina really was good yesterday, how many corners did we have second half and never look likely to get on the end of any of them
