I agree with you that Lawro isn't anti-Saints, but being a multiple trophy winner doesn't mean he is a good pundit/commentator. He is infuriatingly bad. He gets a regular gig on Today FM (Radio Station) here in Ireland, on a show called The Last Word. He constantly gives "inside scoops" on transfers and whatnot that never come true, even though he's definite they'll happen as an "involved friend" has told him. He rolls off the same useless rhetoric that the majority of pundits do. He's wretched. Unfortunately, the longer TV stations assume that old player will automatically make a good pundit/commentator, and the longer the likes of sky play to the lowest common denominator, we'll have to put up with Lawro and his ilk. There are so many good journos out there who would do infinitely better jobs but will never see the light of TV day.

Indeed stats can be used to prove anything, but that's usually said about obscure stats, not straight up stays like "least conceded goals in the league shows our defense is good". Let's look at it another way though, we conceded 13 goals in 23 home games last season. Only Man U, Man City and Swansea bettered that last season. It was equalled by Chelsea. But because you felt the ground got nervous with every opposition attack and set piece, that proves we have a poor defense and we ignore these facts? You asked for reasoned debate, you can't just dismiss these facts. And remember, goals conceded is more than stats, it helps decide the league in a points stalemate, as it has done for years. It's not some new type of figure being flung at clubs by Opta or prozone.

That's the way a centre back should be! We'll take some of that!

While I don't disagree with you, I think the point is that the fans are only ****ing off one person by shouting at a player. The player is ****ing off hundreds, maybe thousands of fans (although admittedly not the case at Leyton Orient) and could incite a riot. There's definitely hypocrisy and double standards in complaining about him swearing into the family stand when the family stand is swearing back at him though.
