With today's money swishing around the Premier League we should be able to compete with most teams besides the obvious few, it's whether our owners are want to. They're happy just being in the league collecting the high dividends it brings it appears.
-
But they spend their money and we bank ours and we're near the bottom of the table so it's a mute point.
-
Every time another player chooses another team over us people say "he's only went there for higher wages" or something to that effect. Well if that's the reason every time, then match their wages or accept our place in the pecking order, it's simple. Pay up or get what's in our price range, we always be bypassed if we don't pay up.
-
The VVD money needs spending, we're getting desperate now.
-
Today feels like a defeat now, a point away isn't the end of the world, but with many of the other teams fighting relegation getting points including wins, the table is looking scary now. That will do our confidence no good and we're already at rock bottom, and Spurs up next.

Liverpool agree world-record £75m deal for Virgil van Dijk
Saints1976 replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
It's great that such a huge sum has been agreed but how much of it will be reinvested back into the squad, not £75 I reckon. It should be enough to stave off relegation this year though, January is a difficult time to pick up decent players so I hope we choose wisely. His heart wasn't in it here, it's best for both clubs that he went. -
With each new manager, we've progressively got worse, we've sold the family silver and we're lucky that there's at least three teams worse than us at present, otherwise we'd be down. Carry on down this path and we will eventually, sooner rather than later. Another pathetic performance, Everton as bad as they've been are now four points ahead of us, let that sink in.
-
I dread to think how we'll get on against the decent teams, that was awful. On paper we started the season with winnable fixtures.

Other Premier League Transfers - Deadline Day
Saints1976 replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Koeman said yesterday on sky sports news that they're still in for striker and they haven't finished spending, I still say they'll end up in seventh. It's all about consolidation though, strengthen now and push on, City bought some crap when they first come into money and I'm sure they finished 10th, I might be wrong but something rings a bell. Hadjuk Split are no pushovers, I can see them going out over the two legs. -
Hopefully a load of cash will be made available to strengthen now and VVD will stay. It's always a nervous time when you get new owners, everybody has high hopes, many don't deliver, hopefully these will deliver, let's see what the rest of the transfer window brings.

He's basically Barkley's replacement, I reckon he'll leave next year on a free now or at a knock down price this window. Schneiderlin will be alongside Gueye. -
What a time to lose our best player, just before the season starts! We behave like a feeder to Liverpool, if he goes there, they'll be laughing hard at us.

It's crazy seeing Bournemouth coming up with ambitious bids like this. -

I wouldn't read too much into a pre season game.

There was over 32,000 there, the empty sections were closed due to the ground being upgraded for disabled access. It's down as a sell out as all available tickets for home supporters were sold. I think it looks worse because the TV cameras face the empty sections. All clubs have to upgrade this season I think. -
The Sigurdsson rumours are rubbish, there's zero chance of him coming here.

Suing Liverpool for "turning VVD's head"
Saints1976 replied to Singapore Saint's topic in The Saints
We let them off the hook the other month, part of me thinks the club knew he was going but they're going through a face saving exercise with the fans. -
Merseyside was looking quite good for anyone who has been following the Open Golf Championships this week, what a coastline, the aerial shots were beautiful.
-
Anyone but Liverpool, their fans are going to be laughing so hard if they get away with this, they tap him up, we let it go, they get their man. We're basically a feeder club for them. They're going to love this.
-
I can actually see him going to Liverpool and all of that recent stand off was a face saving exercise by us. If he goes there, we'll look ridiculous in my opinion.
-
I don't think we'll spend much until VVD goes, I can see it now, and even then I can still see some of his fee being pocketed.
-
The new owner paid all of their debts off but up until that point, there seemed to be some shady goings on there.
-
Can anyone outside of the top seven this season finish there this season is the debate on Talksport now.

Many of the players mentioned were bought for about £4m or so and Barry was on a free I think, getting anything for them will be a bonus because they've served their purpose now. It's not like they've invested heavily in them. Even Rooney is on a free so when his contract is up in two years there's no loss on any initial fee. Every window they've cleared out a lot of deadwood, I'm sure some of those players mentioned there are on borrowed time.
