If Spurs offered us 10 million to take Dross Townsend off their hands we would be being ripped off. He is exactly what we DONT need. He is a forward who never score goals - 14 in total in his entire career of which only 3 came in the top division. His main attribute is stupidity although losing possession is also a speciality. We need to spend money in January to IMPROVE our attacking options. He will offer us nothing. Better to give chances to our academy kids than waste a place and a lot of money on Townsend. Signing him would indicate expecting to go down as at best he is a championship player. If we can't do better then this we are truly doomed. I can only hope this is just agent talk trying to get this lump off their hands.

Absolutely and why Long? You can criticise other players for not fitting the bill but Long has done exactly what was expected. The price is irrelevant. We wanted him and paid what we needed to for him. The very definition of a good signing.

I know spurs are desperate to get rid of Dross Townsend - possibly the worst player to have EVER played PL football (okay Dia preobably was slightly worse) - but I really can't see them paying us 12 million to take him off their hands.

Blimey. I didn't actually realise he was that young. He has huge potential then. Keepers rarely reach their potential before 28/29 so he's still got a lot of time to improve really. I appreciate this is a wind-up as none of the keepers you name are even close to Forster which is why no-one has been tempted to take them out of the championship. Quite rightly he was England's number 2 and was a vital part of the tightest defence in the Premier League. It's nice to have such a capable number two though so nothing to complain about in relation to that position in the team. Stek's career problem - particularly in his stay at Fulham - has been poor concentration - just suddenly in the middle of games losing it (and the ball) and conceding needless goals. He has dropped a couple out of the blue for us but with no great consequences so far - another plus for our coaching team.
-
He once again absolutely bossed the centre of midfield. Of course he doesn't always pass it perfectly - he is a defensive midfielder after all. But IMHO the reason we aren't really missing Morgan (who of course is a fantastic player who we would have back in a shot) is that big Victor has stepped up a gear this season and is actually using the ball better. Indeed where we have lacked is in his partner. Romeu and JWP have their strengths but neither makes an idea all round partner for Vic. Ronald seems to think Clasie is the man but so far I have been hugely underwhelmed. He may well get better but to me whatever his passing skills he seems a bit lightweight.

Saints V Villa Build Up Thread Capital One Cup
Village Saint replied to Stepgar's topic in The Saints
Some good calls but I really don't understand why people imagine Koeman would want to risk a competition we could win. I cannot see or be happy with any changes that aren't necessary. I expect the team to be: Stek Cedric Fonte VVD if all fit and maybe Targett as he played last year in COC but Bertrand surely needs games Wanyama (if fit - otherwise Romeu) Clasie JWP Davis Tadic Pelle (unless JRod fit) When its 3-0 I am sure he will think about Juanmi and Gaston but not til we are sure we have won the game. -
...a team which deserves to be in the Premier League ?

No they have never been a massive club. Indeed at various points their relatively poor attendances have put them in financial danger. Nearly all of their trophies came in the Don Revie era in the 60s and 70s. They were never more than a yo yo club before 1963 and I cant see any reason why they are going to buck the trend of most of their 96 year history and get back to the Revie-inspired glory years. -
Not in any sense a fact. Lovren had one decent half-season before his form reverted to his career average. Toby ditto really before injuries disrupted the second half the season. Good players but you have to do it consistently to be a legend. In my view and its only mine Big Jim Steele was number one, Docker probably 2 and Claus, Jimmy Gabriel and Killer not far behind.

Jan Transfer Window One Realistic Signing Who Would You Buy
Village Saint replied to ally_uk's topic in The Saints
Almost anyone but Charlie Austin. Can't see how he would add anything at all useful to our squad. Given the likelihood of injury and suspension I would be inclined to get in a third defensive midfield rock who can play a bit to provide cover/alternatives to Romeu and Wanyama. No-one immediately springs to mind but I imagine Reed and Co have targets. -
I know journos get a bit desperate at this point in the transfer window when there is nothing to report but this really does take the biscuit. It really is bonkers on so many levels. As for the people who think we should sell and buy Charlie Austin - yes Charlie Austin!!!!!!!!!!!! - I despair. What we should be doing once this window is closed is moving heaven and earth to get Mane's contract extended but maybe that's how this fairy tale came about - Mane's agent thinking about how they were going to get that. Still move on. Nothing to be seen here.

These people made exactly the same comments about Morgan. Not worth wasting your time on them. They'll be the first to complain when JWP goes to Real.

CONFIRMED - Steven Caulker - DONE DEAL (loan)
Village Saint replied to washsaint's topic in The Saints
You have been repeating this ill-informed nonsense on every thread for days. What are you expecting to gain? We have all heard you. Two people even agree with you but it really is tedious to keep repeating it. -
I assume this is some sort of attempt at alternative comedy - Arsenal have been selling to the Manchester clubs for years (well not always selling but sometimes losing on free transfers!); Chelsea have just sold Cech to Arsenal; Liverpool sold Torres to Chelsea; etc etc.). I am afraid it was you that missed the point of Alpine's post. Sadly from his point of view we have done amazingly well for several seasons now but his agenda is to carp, carp, carp and his original post was about criticising the club for somehow not making us Manchester City. He knows this. I am afraid he has done you on this one.
-
He is not on 40-60k. He is on 35,000 at Villa and has a clause in his contract that if Villa are relegated will reduce it to I think 25,000. He has not consistently achieved anything that would suggest he should be in line for a big pay rise. He would be a gamble - one which I personally would be glad to take. We will be competing with Stoke maybe but definitely not the top 4 or Liverpool and probably not Spurs. Matching his current wage should be enough for a club in Europe and with the promise of consolidating further and maybe offering more if he and we do well. It is not by any means out of the question for us to get him without braeking our current pay structure. It all depeneds on whether Koeman (and the black box) like him or not. He is the only suggestion that I have seen so far that actually gets the pulse racing.

Anyone critical of Gallagher has simply not been to see him play. Seager may get all the plaudits (and he too is a very good player) but its Gallagher who pulls defences apart. This was seen at its best in the Derby County game but its not the only time they've done it. They are both outstanding at that level. Whether they are yet ready for a start in the Prem is a moot point. They are both very young still but we have done it in the past - with Shaw; Chambers, Theo, Bale, Ward-Prowse - and what the fate of players elsewhere has shown (e.g. Bertrand at Chelsea) is they certainly don't get better if they don't get the chance.

Aston Villa Ticket Rip Off - SFC Screwing Fans Over
Village Saint replied to pluto's topic in The Saints
Really no, no, no. This could well be the most important final home game of the season since Sheffield United with European qualification at stake. It is also a chance to celebrate and appreciate the best side we have had here since the runners-up season in the 80s. Please don't deny yourself the opportunity to be there. You might even enjoy the game. The price is as fair as any modern football price. It really is not a rip-off. Of course, people have the right to have a different view but in this case it appears to be just you. -
Indeed. According to the geniuses on here Forster is crap; Mane is crap, Davis is crap; Mane is crap; Tadic is crap; Ward-Prowse is crap; Pelle is really crap; and yet somehow we are 6th!!!
-
That's right when you haven't got anything constructive and useful to add lets resort to xenophobic stereotypes.
-
As the video clearly shows Barnes committed no offence. He was not tackling anyone just playing the ball and indeed it was Matic who instigated the whole problem with a wild challenge from the side.
-
Actually he had more chance with first (virtually none) than with second (absolutely none at all). He seemed to blame himself but it came through and under multiple bodies, bounced off one of our players and the ground - absolutely not his fault. As for being staggered. Surely by now you have twigged there are some bonkers people on here.
-
Imho any club which relies on music to create an atmosphere in their stadium should be relegated to the conference. We didn't need it at the Dell - a proper football ground. You could feel the tension build and then explode as the gladiators entered. We should all rise up and burn the PA - and of course the f***ing children's entertainer.
-
One would be a surprisingly high number saying this. I think the original post was intending to be ironic - well I hope so or I fear for his sanity.

And it's not even a real job. It's just playing football with your mates! god it must be a tough decision.
