No one is comparing the 2. What they’re saying is that an element of his game, free kicks, is better. Much like Jack Stephens is better at defending than Ronaldo is... actually, that’s too far.
-
This argument is as daft as those claiming because San Marino players aren’t as good as ours (and would obviously lose every premier league game), they aren’t tactically set up better to defend. Ronaldo is clearly a better player and therefore talked about more. No one would compare Ronaldo and JWP. However, free kicks alone, they would compare JWP with Beckham (it’s happened already), who’s arguably the greatest free kick taker ever.
-
Prowsey would score different free kicks to Ronaldo. Prowsey from 20-30 yards is lethal. Ronaldo 30-40 is better though, in my opinion.
-
You’ll not find anyone other than a saints fan who thinks that.
-
No disrespect, he’s a cracking lad but this is a bit OTT. As for practicing scoring from corners, I’d rather he started working on through balls and creativity from deep in midfield.
-
Yes I was at the game. At the time I thought it was harsh, but watching back, I thought it was justified. Any tackle or impact that high, you’re running the risk of a red card. For me; that’s a dangerous tackle and a red is justified.
-
Ahh that’s alright then I guess. How about you let me attack you and set your car on fire. Obviously I’ll try not to break any of your bones and all is well then, Yeah?
-
I’m amazed you’re still here after being outed, by my detective skills, as a banned user. SKD for Moderator.

Mate, at tackle that high is a red card. Foolish to even argue it’s not.
-
If he’s 50m post covid, what you valuing him at pre? What would you value Rice at, who’s a much better player btw.
-
I don’t think he’s gonna be going to the Euros. Watkins and DCL both having great seasons and Danny isn’t. A shame, but more fool him to be honest. Let a good season and some transfer talk go to his head.
-
Which is why he won’t command a fee above 50m.
-
He’s nailed on for a euros spot now and I think should be starting against the weaker teams. Fair play to the kid. Agree we should be building around him.
-
Obviously depends on who the player is and the club he comes from, but ultimately we are a selling club who offer little resistance. No one would pay 60m for him, so we’d sell at a lower price. For me, anywhere between 30-40m is a fair price.
-
That’s our model. Thats how we attract players. What’s more attractive for a young player? Luke shaw, Adam lallana etc. Moving to a huge club, or JWP staying and fighting relegation each season..?
-
Not many CM’s from the championship go for that fee. That’s the goal scorers and attackers. naturally the command a higher fee because they’re match winners. Free kicks aside, There are many JWP type players out there. Diallo as an example. He’ll go on to be a better player.
-
Yes, exactly this. 60m + is laughable really. Free kicks aside, all round is he any better than Mctominy, who’d never be touted as 60m+ on here. You’re right, he’d be a squad player for top 6 clubs.
-
Fair enough, wasn’t aware of that.
-
United paid massively over the odds for him. They basically were hoping he was the next De Jong or De Ligt. Ajax again are a club who can probably command a slightly higher fee than we can. if you were a chairman and was asking anyone to pay 60m+, you’d me Laughed off. Who do you think he’d go to that would pay that?
-
I think the money we’d get for him, his value to us would outweigh that. He’s probably the perfect player to build a team around. Good influence in the dressing room. Good player but not a superstar. Good media boy for the club. Chuck in a few solid leaders into your back 4 and he’s your perfect captain to be honest.
-
Do you think he’ll want to stay long term? Excluding relegation. Strikes me as your typical 1 club man. Your Kelvin Phillips type, where he’s got it very good here and he’s probably not quite good enough to play at the top top level week in week out. Seems like a smart lad, so don’t think he’d chase the money. Wouldn’t begrudge him a big move. But agree, I think we should build a team around him. Clearly an absolute model pro and assuming he wants to go down that route, should be nailed on for a coaching role in 5-10 years time.
-
Transfermark has him Valued at £25m. We’d obviously sell him for more than that, but any suggestion of anything above £50m is hugely unrealistic. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-ward-prowse/marktwertverlauf/spieler/181579 Arsenal paid £45m for Party from Athletico, who can demand a much higher fee than we can given their stature. Absolutely no way we’d get anything near £60m for JWP 😂

Isn’t that what VAR is for? To spot the errors those on the pitch miss... He went over the ball and over the ankle. A dangerous tackle and absolutely a red card.
-
“He lost a game or 2” or 10 in the last 12 premier league games. Thats not being selective, that’s a fact and an awful statistic which coupled with a record equalling defeat, every manager should be under pressure from. I’m not saying sack him, but to have 0 pressure of being sacked is shocking.
