Tend to agree on this. If, the worst does happen and we go down, I think he’d be a real asset for us in the championship.
-
When have I said / made that out? 😂 all I’m saying is Blackmore gets his info from the club and is likely prone to publish positive information to keep relationships sweet. As said in the transfer thread, villa wouldn’t be wasting their time if they didn’t feel like they had a chance. Truth somewhere in the middle so take all of the information and make your own judgement on it.
-
Yep. Which in a way, is the concerning thing about the JWP situation. Villa wouldn’t be wasting their time if they didn’t believe they had a chance.
-
Huge pinch of salt…. Alex Crook claiming it’s 15m + add ons… I’d say a pretty decent deal at that price.
-
In fairness, both are pretty unproven at this level and, if we’re being honest, unlikely to replace ings goals. I am a bit more relaxed now that I’ve heard were potentially in for the Ox (hopefully this signals that we want to improve in the 10, which is very much needed). Given we’ve continued to chase, it would suggest that he doesn’t prefer palace (or at least we think we have a chance), as reported.
-
We’re crying out for some creativity in the 10. Redmond, Djenepo and arguably Theo, are nowhere near good enough to keep us up again. Given we’ve lost Ings goals, we need to replace them and we won’t from a striker, so we’ll need others to chip in. It’s been pretty well documented that we’re in for 2 strikers and funds are limited. The young lad from Chelsea is likely to be a replacement for Long / Obafemi.

Sorry, the word definitely wasn’t used. He said ‘he’s going nowhere in this window’. Basically the same thing, but so so. I’m not too sure what your argument even is here? Blackmore clearly gets his information from the club and relays that. The club are unlikely to give negative information and in the interests of keeping the club happy, Blackmore is unlikely to publish negative information (without clarifying from the club first). My point was to TW’s comment about believing Blackmore and not Nixon.
-
Read my second post. Clearly says I don’t think we’ll sale this window. However, history has shown, that everything is for sale for the right price at SFC. I don’t believe that we can say no one is ‘definitely’ staying. If villa come in and offer 50-60m, he’s gone. Stooge perhaps the wrong word, however he’s certainly a club mouthpiece. As I said, truth likely somewhere in the middle.
-
Blackmore is certainly a club mouthpiece. It’s within his interests (exclusives etc.) to maintain a solid relationship with the club. I suspect the clubs stance is that he’s not for sale. Personally, I don’t think he’ll go this window. however, I won’t dismiss the Nixon story. Perhaps Villa still think that they can persuade us with an offer (which if a big one comes in, we’ll consider 100%, or perhaps they’re still getting encouragement from JWP. Basically, I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.
-
Come on mate, you’re surely intelligent enough to know Blackmore is a club stooge. Sheldon, imo, is clueless. Nixon, likely getting his info from Villa or JWP side.

This forum needs someone like Chris to have enough posts to present his voice of reason.

Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
SKD replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Sell, sell, sell. 6 good months the rest has been nothing short of dreadful. Not a good defender but tidy on the ball, so will attract interest as that’s the modern way. 15-20m would represent a good deal. Replace him with an upgrade on Bednarek and someone who’s a natural leader please. -
I don’t rate him at all. Has a touch of Yoshida about him, came in as cover and found himself as first choice by default. Wouldn’t read much into him being an international considering he only plays for Poland. He’s good at throwing his body on the line, but concentration is shocking, which leads to him losing his man far too often.
-
Agree with this. i Don’t know anything bout Broja, but a loan seems pretty low risk, Ox would offer us some more quality in the 10 and leave us a decent budget to improve other areas we need improving, as you say, CB and ST. We should have a decent chunk to spend on a player in each position.
-
Trying to throw your weight around with A ‘take it or leave it’ offer, when other clubs are interested, is hilarious.
-
‘Hope’ is the main word here. We’ve been down this hope path before. I’ll Believe it when I see it. My money is on one and a loan best case.
-
It’s £1 a month to sign up, you tight sod….
-
In terms of impact on the club, of course relegation is bigger. However; as Turkish has said, relegation happens and it’ll happen to us eventually. 9-0 doesn’t. I don’t think any other managers would survive 1 9-0 defeat, let alone 2. For me, it highlights deep rooted issues with mentality of the squad and some fundamental issues with the manager tactically.
-
This place really underestimates / refuses to understand how bad it actually is to lose 9-0, not once, but twice. Truly horrific.
-
You’d have thought he’d be a relatively cheap loan though? Think we’re really lacking some quality at LM. Djenepo and Theo won’t cut the mustard for me.
-
Agree. The others, whilst obviously didn’t work out, you could see why we were interested (Hodet was also a weird one though). That’s a fair shout, but given the lack of available funds made from the owner, would we have spent 30-40m on 1 player? I’ve not seen anything to suggest we have ever had the appetite to do that. Long and short, we got cocky. With Koeman and his signings we got very lucky, that was never going to repeat. Once Mitchell left, we were in the mud and were effectively blagging things.
-
People compare us with Leicester because, rightly or wrongly, it’s where people think we could have been with a bit of investment / ambition in the Poch / Koeman years. Personally, I’ve always compared us with Swansea. I think our similarities are pretty striking.
-
Probably money related, which looking at the fees around, is about 10m more than he’s worth so fair enough I guess. We’ll never know, but if he was our number 1 target (which it looks like), It would very disappointing to miss out on him. Especially to a relegation rival. FWIW, I think palace will do pretty well this season. In his shoes, I think I’d be preferring that move as well.
