If they hadn't missed a penalty or Forster hadn't pulled off a number of top class saves, would today's tactics have looked as good? Being so weak offensively is a concern IMO. And that doesn't mean go hung ho, but you have to offer something in the final 3rd. Gabbi needs help, as good as he is, he isn't going to hold up a long ball and then beat 4 men because he has no support.

Always good to get some kind of result at Liverpool, made even sweeter by the fact that could well cost them top 4. Have to say it was a poor game and poor atmosphere (as to be expected at Anfield). Didn't have a great view of the penalty as it was other end of the pitch, but the feeling around me was that it was harsh? Good denfensive performance, all be it Liverpool weren't at there best and hardly troubled us (they were crying out fora bit of width, but played very narrow which is easy to defend). Forster had one of his wonder games that he has a couple of times a season. Going forward we were awful, and it didnt make it enjoyable to watch. I think this is why many are fustrated with Puel, it certainly is why I am. Thought Boufal was good (I would have taken off Tadic, but obviously Puel had made his mind up yesterday it would be Redmond for boufal and Long for Gabbi as it seems to be every week), but he just wasn't given the ball in the final 3rd enough. Have to give credit to Puel, he came with a game plan and it worked. If that game plan is good to watch or not is a different matter.

We can compare ticket stubs tomorrow if you like?

If it is Cortese, the first thing he'd do is get rid of Mr Reed. Not that I think it will be him mind. Especially whilst Kat is still around.
-
Not once have I said it is 'irrelevant'. In fact I said it's an achievement, but not a success. Also, what's your obsession of how many games I've been to? Bitter that your missus and/or carer won't let you out on a Saturday?
-
Looks similar to ours.... yet people still claim runners up in EFL cup is a success. Some of which are those that slate poch for not winning anything and coming runner up in the league
-
Short and Sweet send off on the website.... Looks like he may have been pushed rather than walked.. A sign of new investment or just generally not doing a very good job?
-
I think he'll probably stay, not based on anything I know, just I can't see us selling all of our back back 4 in 1 season (including Fonte in this and assuming that VVD will go)!
-
Jay and Tadic aren't one of those I've been specifically told about as being unhappy, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are and I expect them both to leave in the summer, Jay more so than Tadic.
-
If Tadic goes, I would expect us to replace him.... I think it's safe to assume that everyone 1st choice would be Sigurdsson.
-
I agree, but as I said who knows. I'm sure the club have done due diligence on them. Why would Kat want to sell to someone who will run the club into the ground if she intends to keep a small stake in the club (also reported). From a personal point of view I still believe they are being played by the club to attract on offer from their preferred bidder, that's probably more out of hope than anything real substance.
-
Or if the new owners get things right and provide further investment we could progress to the next level.... Kat doesn't want /can't afford to stay, we need to get used to this. These Lander guys don't sound great, but who knows, time will tell. It's worth remembering that even if they had the millions of City, and they wanted to spend it they couldn't, due to FFP. We've generally got things right over the past 7 years, so I think we need to trust Kat. I generally don't think she would sale if it wasn't in the clubs best interests.
-
Do you understand how stupid this sounds? Why would we let someone who we could get £20-£50m for rot in the reserves? £20-£50m would go along way to rebuilding our squad. Also, what is the point in not selling them if they aren't going to play? All that will do is cost us in potential transfer fee's + the players wages whilst they add no value to the club. The players hold the key as they are the most valuable asset to the club and they know it. Virgil is not the future of this club. He is too good for us, he knows that and so do we. We would like to keep him for another year, but without European football and with the potential champions (with one of the best managers in the world) interested, who will blow any contract offer we make out of the water, it is unrealistic to expect to keep him. Especially with the figures branded for his transfer. Players I think we will lose, from the first team are: Bertrand Long JayRod VVD Tadic Martina and possibly (dependent on replacements and significant interest): Forster Clasie

Spot on, a good post.
-
So you admit and agree with me that Puel has failed this season? I accept that we won't get top 7 and European football every season, I expect us to give it a good go &a play exciting football along the way. Yes we may have nearly achieved our target by reaching a cup final, but in the league we've not been good enough. Don't really see what relevance that has to this thread, all been discussed in the nemerous puel threads. This is about the board lacking ambition, which I do not believe is the case.
-
I wouldn't expect the club to be overally bothered if he does go to be honest. He would have gone last summer if Koeman had stayed. He's the sort of player you cannot pick over the manager... some of the others that aren't happy however would suggest all is not well in the dressing room.
-
I honestly believe that squad would win the league.
-
I was joking about twitter pal.. hence why I said the bit below. To clarify what I've said before.. I know of 3 players that want out (Long, Bertrand and 1 other who I'm not sure will get a move so wont say name), I have suspicions about others as well. I don't know how instrumental Puel staying is to these... I suspect if Chelsea come in Bertrand will go regardless, I think Shane would probably stay, the 3rd I think will be made to stay regardless (unless we can find a decent replacement... which there doesn't appear to be on the market at the moment) . If you honestly believe that Ryan would come out and slag the manager off and say he wants out to a local news reporter throughout the season, you are deluded. However, each to their own and I can understand why you would be inclined to believe what Adam reports over some bloke on an internet forum

Managed Southampton Half in 1:49, which I was happy with considering I only had 2 weeks training due to knee injury. Only have the Great South Run planed for the rest of this year, hoping to complete sub 1:15.
-
someone on twitter.... As I've said before, I know a few people at the club and get given information every now and again. As I also said, you don't have to believe me, to be honest as it's against the club, I didn't think you would, but I thought I would put it out there for others.
-
I know for a fact (believe me or not, that's up to you) the last bit isn't true, so i'm going to assume the rest isn't that accurate either. Let's be honest, all agendas aside, he's not going to come out and say "I hate Puel, we've had a number of bust ups and i'm leaving in the summer" is he. Imagine he didn't get a move for whatever reason. He'd have ****ed off his manager, employees and fans...
-
If the players look on here for motivation then we are in bigger trouble than I thought.
-
I disagree. Kat pretty much said she will only sell to a new buyer if it's in the clubs interest. Les has pretty much made himself (or so it would appear) irreplaceable at the club. If the new owner has any sense, it will be to keep the current structure in place, well at least until they get their feet under the table. Comparing any new owner to Cortese is a bit unfair as he was a control freak. That doesn't mean the new owner will be.
-
Tottenham are just an example of where you would not judge current expectations on previous failures. At no point did I compare the size of our club to Tottenham or say we should have the same expectations. I would say the same could be said about Everton and West Ham (as also shown this year as they will sack their manager) Of course we won't finish top 6 or 7 every season, but given our recent history, European qualification should be the target for every season, IMO. Whilst current league position may not suggest it, this season I would say we are as far away from the top 7 than we have been since we came back to the PL. I also do not expect any new investment to turn us into Man City, even if they wanted to.. they couldn't due to FFP. All I said was that I would expect players sales to slow (not stop) when new owners come with more money. I believe it was reported on here that she is possibly 'only' worth a couple of hundred million, which isn't a great deal in terms of football club owners.

Personally I think Boufal would offer more on the counter than JWP, but it's a fair point and I wouldn't be disappointed if JWP did start. Time to drop Tadic though IMO, and i'm one of his biggest fans.
