Which equates to roughly $1b more than the blue few's then.. Anything they can do, we can do better and all that

I refer back to you earlier post: You have no evidence to suggest he would be a "terrific addition" at all, unless of course you think he's a good coach? which again, you have no evidence of. Jaap Stam was learning his trade, he would have been coaching here on a voluntary basis, gaining experience before he took a step into paid work. There is no evidence that his coaching (and to what extent that was) improved our squad. So are you suggesting we get RL back here on a voluntary basis to improve him as a coach? If so, I would welcome that (assuming he wants to go into coaching of course). As for Jaidi, he's currently learning his trade coaching the u23's, so that he has the experience required should he take the next step. He has no involvement with first team affairs. Regardless of all of this, your comparison between Stam and Lambert's reputation is laughable
-
That former Barnsley player has coaching badges and has coached at international level, so completely different to the untested Lambert, who you assume is an excellent coach on the basis that he was a good player for us... My god you are an idiot
-
Watson isn't the England GK coach anymore.
-
On what do you base this assumption? You have no idea if he is a decent coach or if he even wants to be a coach. Also, are you really comparing the reputation in world football of Stam and Ricky Lambert

I've no doubt that 90% if not all of this is as a result of Virgil changing agents to same agency that ****ed us around with Koeman. The modern footballer takes a lot of stick, sometimes rightly so (as in this case) but clubs/FA/PFA really need to clamp down on these pests that are wrecking the game.

I've not seen enough of Wimmer to make a judgement on him, but lets be honest, it's no shame being behind Toby and Vertonghen (similar to Lemina in that sense). £20m does seem very excessive given They signed him for about £5m a season or two ago and he's done little to nothing since though it must be said. If I was in Les' / the Ross' shoes, I'd be looking around Europe for a CB and trying to avoid any current PL players. Much more value for money in europe.

Ben Arfa springs to mind, but we've probably missed the boat on that one with Puel going. His record is hit and miss, not sure I'd take the gamble. Him and Boufal in one team would be either fantastic or absolutely dreadful. Personally, if at all viable, I'd break the bank (we'll use VvD money) for the ox.
-
Austin doesn't suit our style and has had more injuries than we have ST holders. Long suits our style but needs about 30 chances before he gets one on target.
-
No chance, koeman's first season was much better, but we do have more depth now, just not as much quality. Forster Clyne Fonte (before he found an ego) Toby Bertrand Morgan Wanyama Mane Davis Tadic Pelle Davis, Martina (who wasn't that bad under Koeman, IMO), Yoshida, Targett, Cork, JWP, Elia, Djuricic, Long
-
Good deal that, especially for £11m. Perhaps we can jump in and try and swap him for Austin or Long?
-
Select VvD for the squad, wait for him to refuse to be in the squad then fine him another weeks wages (continue to do so until he buckles down..) Forster Cedric Stephens Yoshida Bertrand Lemina Romeu Davis Tadic Gabbiadini Boufal Appreciate Lemina probably wont start, but I couldn't look past him as, IMO, a midfield of Romeu, Davis and JWP is far too short and weak. Pretty dull game, 1-1

Well they're not from Liverpool (I assume this as they have the internet and are able to string a sentence together) and support the victims, which would suggest they have no club about football. They probably looked at the table whilst growing up and picked the team that was top. There's nothing worse than trying to have a conversation, about football, with someone who support 'big clubs' (United, the victims and more recently City and Chelsea) but have no affiliation to said club as you can just tell they do not have a clue what they're talking about.

Les Reed...mistakes made in VVD situation...and moving on
SKD replied to patred44's topic in The Saints
Spot on - the only criticism will be if we sell to Liverpool, no matter the fee. Deep down we may have wanted to sell all along, but i'd say the board have done a pretty fantastic job in this whole saga, so far. -
Had he not signed a new deal last year, he'd have had 3 years left, this summer.
-
Given his pathetic statement... "Always the victims" would have a nice ring to it...
-
No. Everton aren't going to loan (with option to buy) someone with a year left on the contract.
-
You're making yourself look a little stupid (again) if im honest. VvD signing a contract worked for both him and us. He gets a nice pay rise, we secure an asset and therefore boost his transfer fee when it comes to the time to sell. Lets be honest, given our record of selling anything that's not nailed down, I doubt it even crossed his mind that we would refuse to sell him. I think most sensible saints fans understand that he's too good for us, as was Toby and Lovren before him. I think most would have understood if he'd gone to City/Chelsea/United and kept his mouth shut. He gets the move he wants it all ends amicably. What ****es me off, is the way he's gone about it (snidey meetings, refusal to play and acting the victim) and the vile club he wants to join. Ultimately there's no way back for him now. Bridges are well and truly burnt. The board have done very very well to drag it out as long as they have, but realistically they don't have much choice but to sell now, which will decrease his value unfortunately. The only and best thing the board can now do is make sure they do not sell him to Liverpool.
-
I don't see an issue with Loans with an option to buy (as long as it's water tight, unlike Toby...). It's almost a try before you buy.
-
Liverpool will not sell us Sakho, if we are refusing to deal with them for VvD, will they
-
Because he's a £50-£75m asset. We are a business, we are (rightly) not going to throw away £50-£75m. As much as the fans and many neutrals would like to see it, it's not going to happen.
-
Let's not compare footballers to normal members of the public shall we. Many if not all players (especially captains and Key players, such as Virgil) are role models to many people. They are under contract by their respective club and are therefore pretty owned by said club and should act in a professional way. Virgil has not done this. Many would accept him leaving, if he'd gone about it the right way. I.e Lambert, Shaw, Mane and Morgan/Wanyama (to a degree)
-
Les has a massive say in all transfers both in and out. it is on his door.
-
Nothing has changed..... VVD still wants to move. We don't want to sell (well that's what we say publically, but realistically if someone bids our valuation he's gone). We still don't want to and won't deal with the victims. The only thing thats changed is we now get a couple of million (or whatever it is) of the scum bag, because he's finally plucked up the courage to put it in writing. Who's won out of today's situation....? I'd say we have. Ericb is right though, the board are in a very difficult situation as they don't want to look weak to other players. Hold firm, Les. £75m and not to the victims or you rot, Virgil you snowflake.
