Common sense pal. Armstrong isn’t as good as Ings it’s not that deep bud.
-
I’ve seen enough of us to know that without Ings, the last 2 seasons would have been a disaster and that Armstrong is nowhere near Ings level. He may get the odd goal, like adams, but we simply cannot rely on them both to score enough goals to keep us up and we’re not exactly stacked with creativity and flare in midfield to compensate. I’ve no issue with Armstrong, I like the look of him and I’m not saying he won’t perform. A combination of Ings (or of similar ilk), adams and Armstrong would be fine. Replacing Ings with Armstrong is a massive downgrade.
-
I was hoping Armstrong would be the 3rd striker we desperately need. Keep Ings for another year and let him / Adams adapt and grow into the league. Let’s hope if / when Ings goes, we can get a decent size budget for a replacement. Eduroud would be my choice.

A team full of championship level players, I meant. Not specifically signed from the championship.
-
By watching football. There’s Massive step up in the quality between the championship and Premier league, as shown by Adams. We needed another striker to complement both of our current strikers as it is. It now looks like we’re going to lose our stand out player and replace him with someone significantly worse and still need another striker. Slowly but surely we’re building a championship team. I guess that’ll put us in good stead when we finally drop.

Will really show the ambition of the club if we sell to a West Ham / Villa type. Bigger clubs but ones we should be looking to compete with, we’ll never be able to do so if we sell them our best and only player capable of competing at that level. I know for a fact Leicester we’re interested along with a couple of other big clubs. Although It seems Leicester have opted for Daka instead though. I think a lot rests on Kane. If / where he moves will determine where Ings ends up. I’m sticking my money on Tottenham still. Will need to spend big on a replacement, Armstrong isn’t going to cut it as a main man. Relying on Armstrong and Adams next season will be a disaster.

More unneeded insults from the ‘be kind’ brigade.

I don’t think we have / had the strongest 11 going into the tournament, but I certainly think we have the best squad. So much talent in depth.
-
Yep. I think everyone, including me, would prefer to see us set up like Brazil of the early 00’s but the reality is having a solid defence wins you tournaments. I was critical of southgate and let’s be honest, Denmark will be a step up again, but you have to say these last 2 games we and he has been superb. Rice and Phillips have been outstanding.
-
You have to say fair play to Maguire. Been one of the players of the tournament since he came in and been able to do without being fit, as Always_sfc told us.
-
There were idiots on here claiming they’ll be supporting Scotland over England because a couple of saints players were playing.
-
Not quite what was said, I was talking about ownership, but nice try. Villa in the championship would still be bigger than us. I wish it wasn’t the case, but it is.
-
And Ralph (or any other recent managers) have never said they want a player(s) and it’s not happened…..
-
But it’s not irrelevant, is it. Historical success increases fan base (at the time) which in turn increases Dan demand / stadium size and then commercial revenue. For example, if the Arabs pull out of city and in 20 years time there down the bottom of the table, this success would have increased club size and fan base. Villa are much bigger than us in just about every single capacity.

He’d be better than what we’ve got with 1 leg
-
Bring him back. Make him Captain. The only sticking point is that he won’t want to come back.
-
He’s short, he’s french and he signed from Brest, He joined a club that’s a fucking a mess. I bet he can’t, wait to go. Southampton Left back, Romain Peerraud romain perraud romain perraud
-
Hmmm interesting argument, I guess time will tell. Personally, given the choice, I’d have Rafa over Ralph every day of the week.
-
As good as our front 3 our, they’re no where near the level of Early 00’s Brazil. Our team is suited to play on the counter attack. If we’d played an open attacking game Tuesday, we’d have been picked apart. I’m not a huge fan of southgate, but I think so far he’s got it right. Big test will be Saturday where we’re expected to win and will need to take the game to them who’ll move doubt defend deep and try and hit us on the counter.
-
I’m sure I saw somewhere Ralph is on c.5m a year. For someone tried and tested with the reputation of Rafa (and a bank balance like Everton) 7m isn’t a huge amount.
-
One suspects his agent is trying to get him a pay rise out of us.
-
Sorry I didn’t mean cover, I meant he can play both sides. I’d like to think given the intensity required from our FB’s, we’d have 3 / 4 top players who we can rotate and keep everyone fresh. But I agree, I suspect we’ll get a young lad in as the 3rd full back.
-
Maehle (cover both side), KWP and this french lad would have been a very good set of options at full back. I think we’ve seen from last season how important our full backs are, keeping them fresh and rotating in some real quality would have been fantastic for this season. Anyhow, too late now.
