Thing is as a rule you can't get fitter through the season so pre season means everything. The championship we were at fitness levels that were good for the championship, the problem lies we were totally under prepared fitness wise and squad wise and probably a little bit arrogant blasé about how good certain people thought we were based on our possession stats. Jurics issue is not so much fitness but the shambolic formation and tactics and people running around like headless chickens expending there energy unwisely because there not actually sure where there positioning is with the ball and without, I was hoping Ivan would succeed as I thought we needed a bit old school disaplinarin but I guess hearing noises around he'd too much, and going from one matey way of managing to his is probably too extreme, **** knows where we go next but a massive reboot is needed including manager, probably 10 players going and perhaps another football man upstairs

For me the concerning thing about Ivans tactics is not only is a shit formation for the EPL but whatever they are discussing and trying out with players in and out of possession. Last night I actually watched player movement as opposed to game in general and it was bizarre. I get the basis without the ball we fall into a 5 and with the ball we push full backs on, or a cb will step into midfield.what is baffling is there is literally no shape or cohesion. You have Aribo playing lcb but in 2nd half he broke away as the left winger and low and behold it was Bree i think on the edge of there box, smallbone had filled in at cb, the amount of times certain cbs were the furthest forward, hence when Downes got caught out for 2nd the cb was ahead of him and downes was on his own trying to recover. Our cbs where everywhere except in a solid shape, no wonder we get cut open through the middle several times a game, then chasing game we change to a false 9, really really bonkers, I'm not sure if it's down to this alleged multi man marking he prefers and they decide pre game who's marking who but yes the players are crap but you can understand why nobody seems to know where they're supposed to be positioned and it's a disorganised mashed up mess. It's so embarrassing watching Aribo and Smallbone a yard behind play trying to grab players like kids football. I liked what Ivan had to say at the start but my God how we found such an awful tactician is beyond me

It won't tho as SerieA bar prob 3 or 4 teams is a a fair bit slower and tactical than the EPL. In the EPL you have probably bar the 3 newly promoted most sides have a serious amount of physicality/pace/skill. With his favoured formation (for the EPL) you have to have 2 almost world class cms like Kante to hold the midfield together or you just get bypassed regardless if one of you cbs is stepping out. Amorim is finding out exactly the same and they've a damn site better cms than us as he's another basing his formation in a slower league

What a load of crap, most play either 4231 or variation of 433, unless uv 2 class cm our formation won't work, exactly like Man utd, yes our attackers are shit but when a chance falls in the box due to some sort of weird tactics it's a fucking shit Manning whose on the end of it, coupled with Aribo in at cb, it's a weird surreal disorganised mess. With Welington now here it is a perfect chance to get a bit of balance. With him Lb kwp rb with Thb and bednerek cbs, then play Les and either Downes/Gronbaek as a double pivot and protection, Sully then left, Fernandes acm with Dibling right (yes I know he was awful today) then let Tall paul and Archer fight for the striker role . Yes we probably won't win more than 1 more game but ffs go back to basics and stop trying to be so clever
