You don’t understand. Teams at Southampton are not picked simply because of talent. They are also picked because of player status and power. The players who are internationals with the threat of play me or else I will get my agent to move me get picked unless they have been really crap for a while. Then there are also manager favourites. No manager at Southampton level is going naff off players that have clout. I suspect Puel tried and the ‘powerful’ players got him removed. An international with an attitude has to play really crap before they are dropped. Internationals that are ‘nice’ get dropped first. All IMHO of course. When any of those young guns you mention have played in premiership games, how many have let the side down and been at fault for goals against it looked out of place more than the regulars that get blasted on here every week? Seriously many of you on here have no idea if the ‘politics’ in player management and picking a team gat happens at this level.

All this because of one goal against a tiring and poor side? Didn’t Ramirez score a similar goal for Boro last season? What he shows is that he is fearless which the whole squad need to learn from. Playing fearlessly going forward is what the best teams do. Saints need to lose the possession football priority and tell players to attack looking to play forward and shoot on sight. IMHO

Several youngsters who didn't play on Saturday are with the U23s in Leicester along with Martinez. Be the same team as Saturday v Sunderland I reckon but Long not JRod.

Just out of interest how many times was McQueen beaten for pace and how many tackles did he win? And what were his stats for the same v Man City or Everton? Do you think having to face Walcott, Bellerin and Sanchez sometimes all 3 surrounding him with Gardos as backup was maybe a little bit over the top? If he could have kept them out 100% of the time that would make him capable of being a top class international and maybe attractive to better teams than Southampton in the premier league or elsewhere would it not? Championship loans are the last thing he needs and the last thing Saints needs right now. I also know how Bertrand rates McQueen and why Bertie upped his game recently. Do you? I think you're wrong.
