  1. I think there's a good footballer in there, but he seemed to struggle to express himself in the role he was handed at Saints. I never saw him play at Oldham (accept against us of course) but his scoring record would suggest that he played in a quite attacking midfield role there. At Saints when paired with Hammond he was clearly expected to take the Schneiderlin style holding role with Hammond given more liberty to go forwards - unlike the Hammond / Chaplow pairing where Hammond took the holding role. I think he suffered in the role by a triple combination of not him being Schneiderlin, not knowing the playing style of the players about him, and of course it being an unfamiliar role. Give him more time with the team - and perhaps pair him with Schneiderlin rather than Hammond - and he'll be a decent player IMHO.
  2. I'm just loving looking at the overall tables this season (top 5 divisions). Points per game - 5th Current sequence - 4th Current home sequence - 2nd Current away sequence - 7th Overall home sequence - 6th Goals for - 5th Goals for average - 8th Goals against - 9th Goals against average - 5th http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/LGE/ppgame.html
  3. I really hope West Ham are relegated - been to Upton Park a few times, but never to watch Saints and it'll be good to go there before they decamp to the White Elephant.
  4. Sadly not - Bury have scored 44 to our 42
  5. The same MLT who recently announced on twitter that he was out running again? In training for something maybe? (okay it seems unlikely but just maybe...)
  6. Best post ever (although to be fair I am ****ed as a newt)
  7. Last few seasons I built up a mass of match day rituals - buying programmes from particular sellers, walking the long way round SMS, touching Ted's back foot, always drinking cider on the train down and bitter at the ground... This season I was determined not to be a slave to rituals, but I've slowly woken up to the fact that not following any ritual has become a ritual in itself!
  8. Not sure why people are dropping Dickson for Harding - I thought Ryan was excellent on Saturday. If Lallana is out how about Forte on the left wing? He's played there most of his career after all. I'd bring back Butterfield for Richardson who I thought was a bit ponderous. ------------------Davis Butterfield---Fonte--Jaidi-----Dickson --------Hammond--Chaplow Guly----------Barnard---------Lallana/Forte --------------Lambert
  9. Couldn't have been that long ago - he played 90 minutes for Saints on Saturday.
  10. Confirmed(ish) by Solent who've just tweeted he's being released at the end of the season.
  11. Sauce? (for the 'been told he can look for a new contract' not 'currently playing for the Cherries')
  12. And Saint Charlie beat me to it by a couple of minutes (and answered the question) - mods please delete this thread.
  13. Just noticed that Jordace Holder-Spooner (or at least the spoonerism Jorder Hordace-Spooner) is currently playing for the Cherries in a friendly against Reading. Anyone know whether this is a sign of something more permanent in the offing or if we're just helping our neighbours out? Be really disappointed if we are losing him - I was looking forwards to seeing Holder-Spooner crammed on the back of a shirt.
  14. Very tempting to dust off the boots for another year - can't really play any worse than I did last time out!
  15. Dickson edges it for me on current form. Hang on to Mills, in fact with so many mid week games coming up I'd recall him from his loan for cover. Dickson is covering two positions at the moment - an injury to Harding or Lallana and our left hand side is looking a bit thread bare.
  16. Have to agree - Oxo-Chambo is the one player I definitely would rest
  17. So if it were a fringe 11 who would it be? Bart certainly but across the back four there's only really Aaron Martin who's not in regular rotation at the moment. In midfield there's Gobern drifting around the fringes of the first team and possibly Harlee Dean with one bench warming to his name. Up front Connolly and Doble?
  18. Made me laugh a few years ago joining in singing 'we support our local team' when we were playing Arsenal at Highbury - ten minutes walk from my flat. I only lived in Southampton for the first 18 months of my life and the majority of my adult life has been spent in various parts of North London, predominantly in Arsenal country. I guess this means I'm a glory hunting non-proper Saints fan, ignoring the minor local team on my doorstep in favour of the giants of the South coast
  19. One more league game for Stockport and he equals his record for the most league games for a sigle club.
  20. Davis - if not for his one on one save in the first half the entire match might have gone the other way (although I concede he did have his share of dodgy moments!)
  21. Huddersfield away is going to be a tough match - after the feel good factor of the last couple of games I expect the wrist slitters to be back out in force come five o'clock Saturday.
  22. Seriously I hope he does well at Stockport. The guy needs to get some games under his belt. Perhaps he's just a confidence player?
  23. Not Saints, but for the England Germany match last summer I was in a hikers hut in Iceland, some 50 miles from the nearest tarmac road, having the radio commentary sporadically translated from Icelandic to English and German by the hut warden for the gathered hikers.
  24. It opened on the 9th, not sure when it closes. Hopefully Adkins has already been scouting players for S****horpe...
  25. But surely any deal to give Pulis the extra year was with Southampton Leisure Holdings - why would the post-Lowe Southampton have any obligation to honour it?
